same as ever. true class. i know the majority of the crowd was skins fans, but i truly loved the fact that he said, 'thank you' 6 bizillion times before the crowd actually let him speak. no one on the planet more deserving than that man.

joe Gibbs said that when Art spoke the whole team listened. I noticed that I sat up and leaned forward in my chair the entire time. I inhaled every word he said. It was so eloquent and sincere.

The people that held him out all this time really made his inception infinitely better than it would have been if he had been inducted asap. They failed. They wanted him to be irrelevant and they made him the most relevant with that 3 min standing ovation.

This is the first time I've been happy as a skins fan since sean passed. It feel good

guys, I'm jealous. I didn't get to hear the speech, but I would have loved to. I'm working. Any idea if it will be re-played on comcast or espn?

#81 is the very personification of dignity and class. What a fantastic speech and what a specatular ovation from the fans - I hope every voter who ever looked at a ballot form and passed over Art Monk as not worthy enough felt a stab of shame at that ovation.

I am so glad that my introduction to the NFL was through watching guys like Monk and Green because, frankly, if I was watching the hack loudmouths of today - who only care for $$$$ and fame - as my first introduction then there is no way I would have become a fan. No way.

There's a replay on ESPN Classic that started at 11:00.

At NFL.com, they have highlights and FULL speeches:

Dig around the bottom links. They're there.

What was that chant I heard start up and kind of die off during the ovation?

"It's about time! It's about time! It's about time! It's about time!"

It's so ironic that he spent his whole career being quiet that he had to be for four minutes prior to his speech as well. That was the best speech of the night. You could hear a pin drop when he was speaking because everyone wanted to hear what he would say. His son and Darrell's son gave the best speech.

Jim Lachey told me that was the most he had heard Art speak. It was so great to see him there. He deserved more than anyone.

The ovation, 4 mins, 4 secs. A standing ovation by the hall of fame gallery seated on stage as well as a standing ovation by his inductee class.
The ESPN announcers said that has never happened, could that be true? If so what a sign of respect!

I'm with all of you when you say we've never heard him speak that much and I feel that we really may have been robbed of something. Art Monk even through speaking a little bit can affect peoples lives both on and off the field.

Pure class as always, both he and Darrel and the young men they have raised.

Sadly there are no men like these left to represent the NFL and very few left in the world today.

I sit here today a proud "chest out" Redskins fan and as a father of 6 realizing the reward of being a good dad can pay huge dividends in time.

Congradulations to Art and Darrel, for their accomplishments as MEN not just football players. MUCH LOVE and "IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!"

From start to finish that may have been one of the most emotional moments I have ever experienced. We all knew what kind of player that Art Monk was, and that his induction into the Hall of Fame was long overdue, but now, so many more of those watching and those in attendance know what kind of a man Art Monk is. Wow!

Hail to the Redskins!

Wow, awesome speech. Great moment. Inspiring to see so many fans there and give Monk the applause that he deserves. (Do you think those media voters rethought their ignorance at all during those 4 minutes?)

Both Green and Monk, in their own way, were passionate and inspiring. That was truly a great moment in Redskins' history.

I'm with ya on that, Irn-Bru. I was thinking the same thing. That ovation was surreal and so well deserved. I'll never forget that.

One of the happiest and most satisfying days in my life.

I have only word to describe it: JUSTICE!

<<<------------- finally ...

"What I've tried to convey to those who were upset about the process was that I was okay with it. In all due respect, that as great as this honor is, it's not what really defines who I am or the things that I've been able to accomplish in my life."
