Najeh Davenport is available. Kind of like his size/strength as a George Rogers like goal line specialist. Not sure of his price tag though.

Knock it off with the Gibbs crap. He was ineffective here and left us with gaping holes on both side of the ball and aging, injury prone lines. We also have an unproved quarterback. Here are our most solid positions: TE, RB, and backup QB. Everything else is a catastrophe waiting to happen. Zorn has a tough row to hoe and this year is frighteningly dependent on vets not getting hurt, Campbell coming of age, and the merits of inexperienced receivers.

If Campbell can't find open receivers quicker, it's going to be a horrible season. I'd rather Collins started, but even if he does I don't know how we're going to keep the leagues better DL's from burying him.

I'm taking issue with Fleetus' tag line.

Worth a look if he's cheap. We already have 5 RB's on roster & will only keep 3.

Rogers, however, retired due to nagging injuries after the Redskins beat the Denver Broncos, 42-10, in Super Bowl XXII. When he left the NFL, Rogers had rushed for 7,176 yards with 54 touchdowns in a mere seven seasons.

New Orleans Saints (1981-1984)
Washington Redskins (1985-1987)

Rushes: 1981 (1st), 1986 (6th)
Rushing yards: 1981 (1st), 1983 (10th), 1986 (7th)
Rushing TDs: 1981 (T-2nd), 1986 (1st), 1987 (T-10th)
Yards from scrimmage: 1981 (5th)
Rush/Receive TDs: 1981 (T-5th), 1986 (1st)

Was never a huge fan of Rogers....

Najeh fumbles.

We have our big guy in Sellers. I can live with that.

In 6 seasons he has 384 carries & 50 receptions. He has fumbled 8 times losing the ball twice. That's 1 fumble every 54 times he touched the ball. Last season Portis carried 325 times & had 47 receptions. He fumbled 6 times losing 5. That's 1 fumble every 62 touches. Not that much different. At Portis's 07 pace, he would have only fumbled 7 times in his career.

He's talking about his signature, I think:

Gibbs brought our franchise out of total disarray and laid a solid foundation. Now, Snyder, Cerrato and Zorn need to draft well, stop chasing over-rated free agents and build team unity. A Super Bowl will surely follow.

I personally don't see anything wrong with it. . .

Did you guys know Davenport took a dump in one of his girlfriends closet?

I don't know about you guys but I will pass on him.

Ok, granted, that's wierd. But I don't get it how you draw a line there, and then you're all goo-goo over Colt Brennan who is a convicted felon (for burglary and trespassing).

Those are two totally different types of concerns.

Brennan doesn't appear to give a crap. It appears he has a job.
Davenport, by all accounts, does give a crap, but seeing as how he is still unemployed, we can assume the sentiment is not mutual.

Anyway, Davenport isn't useful in enough situations to warrant his taking a roster space. Mike Sellers fills not only the same role but several others. And assuming Ladell Betts is on the final roster, I doubt he will sit on the bench for the entire season. Between Sellers and Betts, signing Davenport is like bringing T.J. Duckett back. It serves no purpose.

Sellers problem as a runner is that he doesn't have Sellers to block for him.

What you guys are saying is similar to my thinking:

1. Davenport may not be much of an upgrade over Sellers as a goal line back
2. Might be nice to be able to line up Sellers at FB and Davenport at RB in the goal line pkg.
3. Was surprised how ineffective Portis and Betts seemed to be in goal line situations last year
4. Not sure of Davenports baggage (dumping in a closet? maybe he was drunk and didn't know where he was?)

No response to CrazyHorse since he seemed to be intent on argument and taking us off topic.

Why was this moved to "Around the League" when the discussion is OPBVIOUSLY about whether the REDSKINS might have a use for Davenport?
:hmm:

Someone on this board once said, If only we could copy Mike Sellers.

52 Mike Sellers. Cool

Well for one thing Colt Brennan was a highly touted QB. I happen to believe he can be a good one in the NFL as well. Especially in the WCO.

I just get a bad feeling about a dude he cant even make his way to a bathroom to take a dump. I just prefer Brennan over Davenport. Davenport is a RB and we have plenty of RBs. QBs we have unproven JC and have yet to see if he is going to pan out.

I guess I just dont like Davenport. I happen to like BRennan.

I'm sure there was a point to this, but I'm missing it.
A player could be a backup QB, P, KR, PR, whatever, and who cares.
It isn't the title of the position that matters.
What matters is what role(s) the player fills.
Sellers fills every role Davenport would be useful for and then some.

And it was also said that if Sellers has the ball, Sellers can't block for the runner.....

This would be GSPODS language for "Oh, he's a RB. Opps, I was wrong about that, but you see my point anyway".

What it would be is an explanation for why Davenport is of no use to the Washington Redskins.
Now, I can move on to explanations of why certain members of THN are of no use. Wherever shall I begin? Here's a thought: When replying to a post, at least attempt to have a counterpoint. It makes it so much more interesting for the reader.

I was mostly poking fun at HEROHAMO (which he knows and takes with a good spirit), but really you can't play the character concern card in this case when you support someone who's had a felony conviction of burglary and trespassing (with another accusation of sexual assault...yay!).

One is far more serious than the other. I'll give you a hint, it's the one that involves the loss of voting rights...

Did I miss the memo or is it still innocent until proven guilty?
