Sammy Baugh HAS to be #1. #1 in the history of football, not just the Skins.

Jurgy is next.

After those 2, it gets dificult. My sentimental favorite is Eddie LeBaron. Kilmer & Theisman also deserve consideration. In order:

Baugh
Jurgy
LeBaron
Kilmer
Theisman

Sammy Baugh. No question.

Unfortunately, my memory only goes back as far as Theismann so I really can't say beyond what Redskins history books say.

Mark Rypien could throw one of the best long balls I have ever witnessed a Redskins Quarterback throw. I am not old enough to remember all of the other great redskins quarterbacks.

But he was effective ONLY with a great line in front of him. He defined the word SLOW. Jurgy could throw deep as well as anyone who played the game &, despite his gut, was agile enough to play well behind mediocre lines.

In my opinion.

As Fios observed, it's my opinion. Now, even if I quoted some "authority", the fact of choosing that authority (say...Shirley Povich rather than Len Pasquarelli) indicates that it is my opinion.

As CT gently observes, the "my opinion" is implied in the fact that I expressed it.

Oh, and we've been through all the "just give me the numbers" arguments...and rejected the entire idea. Remember all the debate about Art Monk's worthiness based on comparing Monk to current receivers by the numbers?

To repeat, in my opnion (and since I'm writing... )

- Sammy Baugh is the greatest Redskin QB of all time, and the greatest NFL passer and QB of all time

Separately,

- Sonny Jurgensen is the greatest QB and passer of all time.

[Second thought: in June, isn't this more fun than arguing about Campbell, Collins, Zorn, and things that will not be shown on the field for a few months?]

Because george Allen thought Kilmer was more of a "team player."

Well, "I'm a Redskin fan and I like Sonny".

(As I vaguely remember, People's Drugstore had a bumper-sticker contest: Sonny against Billy. )

Sonny broke his non-throwing arm in a pre-season game in Allen's first year. Allen liked Billy because Billy would run the simple offense George wanted. Sonny was too independent for Allen, who really preferred to avoid passing unless the Redskins were behind.

The saying was "Larry Brown right, Larry Brown left, throw to Charley Taylor."

In Allen's second season, '72, Kilmer started the season. Old George did not like offense. He switched to Sonny, who snapped his achilles tendon in his fourth start.

Sonny and Billy alternated the next two years as the two had injuries.

Still, Allen probably preferred Billy because he could control Billy. No one ever accused George of being completely reasonable. Just being a coaching genius.

Sammy Baugh could be the best FOOTBALL player of all time. he could do anything he wanted...punt, pass, and cover. if mike ditka says that he was the greatest football player he ever saw im gonna go with that cuz ditka is hard to impress
