Colts, Manning agree on record contract

According to a league source, the Colts and Manning have reached agreement on a seven-year, $99.2 million contract that includes a $34.2 million signing bonus.

Manning is now officially the NFLs A-rod with a deal like that. It will be interesting to see want player Indy can put around that big contract to win.

I said to taz just last night that a new standard would be set with Manning's new contract... but a $35 M signing bonus? Yikes.

They better get 5 years out of him or man is it gonna sting their cap huge...

they won't be doing much shopping or be much of a threat for years to come

I know - I was eating at the time and the fork didn't make it to my mouth for several minutes... I just kinda sat frozen listening to these reports thinking that they just hamstrung their team for one guy...

Does the league know something we don't?? The Sb lately have been big...their betting on the cap going way up in 2007 when a new deal is do.

I think it would be safe to say that 100 million $ salary cap will be here soon. Football is really starting to takeoff with all the crap going on in baseball.
I also think Pop Warner and high school coaches will produce better athletes because of the rulings. The business would demand it.

I understand from what I heard this morning, that this deal is very cap friendly. I'd take Payton with a cap friendly deal...regardless of the #s.
