T.O. is the Man

Tom Osborne that is.
here is one of his ideas.
Tom Osborne is back in college athletics. And true to his previous careers as a coach and congressman, he has some ideas about how to fix things. Among his priorities: A proposal to give athletes roughly $2,500 in expense money beyond their scholarships to help meet "the cost of attendance." Putting pressure on the NBA to either draft a kid out of high school or wait three years after high school to draft him. The involvement of shoe companies and AAU coaches with youth basketball also alarms Osborne because of the influence they wield in the recruiting process. Osborne is also in favor of merit pay for top football officials to help keep them from jumping to the NFL. It's a proposal that has been embraced by league athletic directors and Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe

I like this idea, those players work their butt off, and they should get some expenses paid for. Me, the real T.O I guess great minds think a like. ROTFALMAO
But in all seriousness there not paying the athletes a lot, and there so busy they can't work and go to school. So why not give them so extra money.

I like the idea to either draft them out of high school or wait three years. But to pay them... Why? They are in school. It will take them what, all of three days in the pros to pay the school loans. Where as the rest of the world will take years to repay student loans.

Whats next, paying high school players? THEY ARE STUDENTS!

How can you give money to the student with a scholarship to play ball for the school, but not give money to the student who gets a scholarship for having good grades? It's not fair to the rest of the students.

I think the difference is that a student on an academic scholarship can get a job to help with living expenses while in school. An athlete cannot because of the archaic recruiting rules.

the rest of the students aren't making millions of dollars for the school, the rest of the students aren't thrown out into the spotlight were they could get bad mouthed and criticized by media and fans. Not only that the rest of the students have time to get a job while in school. Athletes do not have this time because they have to play for the school. College sports is very demanding.

Really. Ok. I still think its not fair. Sure they are making millions for the school. But they are getting an $80,000 education FREE of charge for playing.

And what about the school band??? They have just as many practices and have to be at everygame too. They don't have any more time than the athletes, or what about the cheerleaders, the waterboys???

High Schools make money off of their players. Our one large local High School here is big into football. The have a pretty large stadium, and it is packed every friday night. We should start paying them too.

School bands and Cheerleaders don't make money for the school, athletes do. To be honest I wouldn't mind if they got living expenses paid. High school sports and college sports is like comparing apples to oranges. High school sports are not like working a second job. Were not paying college athletes much just groceries and living costs. Education free haha, those school boards don't let those kids take anything challenging because they don't want them to loose their elgibility. The school doesn't even try to educate their athletes, they don't get free education. Don't believe that crap you hear. They use those athletes to make money. FYI not all of them go pro.
