I can't figure out this poll thing, so if one could put one up I would appreciate it, don't have to if you don't want to. But do any of you think he deserves to be in the Redskins ring of honor. I think so, but he is also my favorite all time Redskin, Gibbs 1 I was too young to see. So I am really biased. Personally I think he was the best Redskin since 93. Cooley might be better in time but as of now I wouldn't rank him with Davis in his prime. I also don't think he can take over a game like Davis, not only that Davis was a power back running behind a okay offensive line. I remember only Andy Heck, Jansen, Johnson, center wasn't very good, I forget the other guard. But it didn't matter he would still pile up yards and break tackels like none other, even when Tre went down, his best O-lineman, he would still run 4 to 5 yds. a carry.

If anyone was wondering what he is doing now, he owns nightclubs in the south and just bought a club last weekend called Taboo in Columbia, SC. He is pretty well liked and is doing real well for himself. (other than bars, Taboo is the place to be). Good to see he is successful after football.

No way. He wasn't THAT great and he's a Panther, not a Redskin. I'm not bashing him for leaving the way he did, it was his choice. But he made it and can't have it both ways. He didn't sign a Skin's contract ala Monk did he to retire a Skin? I have nothing against Davis or the Panthers. But neither are Washington Redskins.

Newsflash, Spurrier released him, he didn't choose to leave the Redskins, the Redskins cut him, because Spurrier didn't want him. Get a clue

From February of this year:

Stephen Davis is in the process of signing a contract with Carolina in order to retire as a Panther … “Even though he played longer with the Redskins, Stephen wanted to retire a Panther,” his agent, David Canter, said today. “There were a lot of different reasons, but it’s mainly a testament to the Richardson family (team owners), general manager Marty Hurney and coach (John) Fox. They are among the classiest people he’s ever been around.”

OK, so he was released. He has clearly identified himself as a Panther so I'm not clear how it changes my point that he's a Panther, not a Redskin.

Yes, I was also under the impression that SD was let go. I never liked that move myself but I do think it worked out best for Davis. I think it motivated him to overachieve another year or two. When he was a Redskin, I'm not sure there were very many RBs who ever wore burgundy and gold better than him. He was talented at Auburn and I never understood how we got him in later rounds. I think he was a 4th rounder? Second tops.

Davis was a undrafted free agent and last played with the Rams. He chose the Panthers as the team he wanted to retire as a player of.
Davis is second only to CP's 2005 season for most yards in a single season and behind Riggins and Larry Brown for career yards has a Redskin.

You can only dream about the possibilities:

Had SD been around here with Gibbs II, interesting things could have developed. Portis of course would have never signed, for starters.

I always thought that SD was a great fit for his offense (except for the constant fumbling, of course). I think he proved that in Carolina. He proved that Snyder and Spurrier made a big mistake in letting him go. He proved that, when called upon, he could shoulder the offense.

"...And Davis barrels in for the score!...".

Good memories.

And, he ranked first in beatdowns by wide receiver team mates.

Davis was a undrafted free agent

:?:

He was a 4th round draft pick for us. Wiki:

Davis was taken in the fourth round (103rd overall) in the 1996 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins.

I can't believe a staff member thought Davis was a undrafted free agent.

I can't believe someone who's been posting here for 4 years can't figure out how to use the poll function, so I guess it's a day for surprises.

I use to like Stephen Davis alot when he was here and I wish he played a few more years with us. With that said I just dont' think he deserves to be in the Ring of Honor with the rest of them guys. Stephen didn't start here very long nor were we a winning team with him. But for the guys that say Stephen should be in...then if thats the case so should TERRY ALLEN. He never really got the big 150 plus games like Portis and Davis had but he maybe the most consistent player out of the three...and got a gang of touchdowns.

Not only that, but as Fios documented, he CHOSE to be a Panther by signing a one day contract with them to retire as a Panther. He left the Skins and went to the Panthers. He left the Panthers and went to the Rams. Then he went back to the PANTHERS and said, I want to retire as a PANTHER. No dis to Stephen or the Panthers, that's fine. But why would we put someone who doesn't identify himself as a Redskin in the Ring of Honor? Had he done that with us, then I think putting him in is a valid debate. I'm lost how anyone would want to do that for someone who actively chose another team as his identity. Can anyone who still thinks we should explain that? I know that's not you mastdark81.
