He had a monster rookie season, I would sign him. He will help us with dept then it would be a great situation for him becuase he would not have to come in and start because two year from football will hurt him.
What do u guys think?

The punk is where he belongs. On the street and out of the NFL.

Why is everybody so down on this guy? I know he violated the league substance policy twice and he paid his time. Does that make everybody that violated the policy a punk and don’t deserver another chance. You guys come off as though he is Adam Jones or Chris Henry. He has stayed out of trouble for two years.

How many
chances does someone get before they're not worth the risk? Two of the
same offenses, he surely cannot claim ignorance, more complete disregard for regulations.

Has had some trouble in the past and just got released... He has great potential and would serve as a great backup with an incentive laced contract. We are particularly thin at LB with the injury to Rocky and the age of London. This guy competed for the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 05. I know we dont like bringing a cancer into the locker room, but it seems to me that this guy was just making some immature mistakes, and maybe he has grown up. It's not like he is pacman jones or something...What do you guys think?

I don't remember much about his record. What did he do? How many times? etc.

do it because we need to add some quality depth...
just imagine, its november, rocky is coming along, but slow...
london breaks something or a hamstring or something...
marcus banged up....
this happens every year to a couple of positions on our team, and we never have good depth, because management has always chosen to forgo depth for star power...
im on this bandwagon for depth, and security... to know that when november comes around, or team wont be scrounging other teams practice squads mid-season for players who dont even know the system...
how will it feel when we cant stop the run...
if he f##&'s up then cut him... if he pans out, out plays his one year deal... then we either re-sign him or let someother team sign him and get a compensatory pick for him...
IT WOULD JUST MAKE SENSE...

Just what the Redskins need - a team full of Cincy rejects. If a defensive player can't survive in Cincy, where God and everyone else knows they need defense, why would anyone think the Redskins would want him?
If the Skins had wanted one of Cincy's problems, they would have traded for Chad Johnson.

According to AP:[/quote]Thurman, a second-round draft pick from Georgia, showed promise as a rookie in 2005, when he led the team in tackles and led all NFL rookies with five interceptions. He was suspended for the first four games of the 2006 season after failing to show up for a drug test. The punishment was extended to a full season when he was later arrested for drunken driving.

If he didn't learn his lesson the first time around then he will never learn it. I am tired of these guys in the NFL with physical gifts most of us wish we had and they throw it all away. Let them go work at the grocery store and bag up my groceries.

who said anything about "a team full", im talking about a position of need in a reserve role, with an incetive laced contract... this guy is a good football palyer and those are hard to come by... i have never heard anything about this guy being a locker room cancer...

A player has to be allowed in the locker room to be a locker room cancer.

What I would or would not do makes no difference. The Redskins gave Mathis a shot. I could see them giving Thurman a shot.

I believe the Skins should bring him in for a series of interviews, and try and judge his character and maturity. He's proven he's an asset on the field and 2 years is a long time at Odell's age to mature. If we felt comfortable with him after the interviews, offer him a contract... probably a small one unless other teams showed a lot of interest, but either way, one with NO signing bonus. That way if he messes up again, we can cut him at no loss. As for the comments about him being a cancer, the problems Thurman has had have all been off the field and away from his teammates. There has been no indication of him being a team cancer, just a self detrimental person. Also, someone mentioned how bad the Bangles defense is as a knock on him. Check your facts, the defense was really good when Thurman was playing. The last 2 seasons as he's been suspended is when they were bad.

He was right to put start a new thread for it.
I must say this is at least an intriguing prospect. The Bengals cut him for what appear to be wrong-headed reasons.

He has stayed clean for two years, the reward is bigger than the risk. You sign him to vet min if it doesn't work out cut him, big deal vet min, if it does than we are looking at a good LB with star quailty that we got for cheap.

I dont think he is that good of a player.
We have London Fletcher and young London Fletcher in the making in Blades.

The Cincinnati Bengals released middle linebacker Odell Thurman on Monday and, according to one of his representatives, the move was due to a dispute over the amount of time Thurman was away from the team dealing with a family matter.
Thurman, reinstated by the NFL on April 21, already was on a short leash with the Bengals after missing the past two seasons for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He missed the past several weeks of organized team activities to be with his ailing grandmother, who recently died, according to his representative, Safarrah Lawson.
The funeral for Thurman's grandmother was on May 12 and the Bengals wanted him to rejoin the team for workouts soon after, Lawson said. But Thurman remained with his family in Georgia through Monday, at which time the team informed him he was no longer a Bengal.
When announcing the move, the Bengals did not mention any specifics as to why Thurman was released.

As a rookie he showed great potential, check the stats. Plus Blades can also play Strong and Weakside LB. Just saying I think it is worth the risk at vet min.
