I hope that this happens IF Johnson is stupid enough to try and force this issue and thinks that Lewis is bluffing - he's a very talented player but he is only 2 years into a long term deal that he signed with the Bengals - this sort of posturing by the players should not be tolerated and I hope that Lewis will play hardball here if Johnson continues this tactic to attempt to force a trade after signing a new contract and then deciding he wants out.

I think it would have been more appropriate for Lewis to say Johnson is welcome to sit out the year rather then goading him into it. Then again I do avoid confrontation so maybe that's just me. Other then that I agree with you though.

Lewis is probably loving this. He's lucky that he still has a head coaching job, and if Chad sits out it just gives Lewis another excuse for why his team sucks.

I'm also finding some irony in this tale of woe. Marvin Lewis has consistently allowed the thugs and criminals on his team to avoid accountability to the team, but drops the hammer on a productive player who is little more than an immature jerk.

Brian Urlacher is begging the Bears for more money and is threating to sit out of camp until he does get the money I was watching NFL Live and Mark Schlereth was saying that he agrees with Urlacher. But then he doesn't agree with Chad Johnson. I don't get it. Chad Johnson says he wants to WIN. He never said anything about money. Chad Johnson was labeled a cancer by the Bengals, and the Bengals said he is a problem. And also Chad Johnson has a point. Even if a player signs a long term deal the team at any point can void the contract and release them. So the team does not live up to their word and thats ok? So, what do you think about this?

The short opinion: Urlacher is peaved that Briggs got a huge new contract.
Johnson is peaved that he is the only clean player on the Bungles roster.
Urlacher wants more money.
Johnson wants to get out of felony by association territory.
Urlacher's attitude will change if he gets paid.
Johnson's attitude will change if he gets out of Sinsinattica.

You make some good points, but on the last 1, The terms of the contract typically let the team terminate it but not the player. That's a matter of negotiations. Johnson has said some inappropriate thing about team mates, esp QB in the past. I think that is what got him his rep.

Chad Johnson is one of the highest paid receivers in the NFL and I believe that the Bengals renegotiated his contract two years ago. Urlacher's argument is that he is underpaid and he probably has a good argument given that he's one of the best linebackers in the NFL. Plus, the Bears have a habit of these types of contract snafus, first with Briggs and now with Tommie Harris and Urlacher.
