Here we go again...Redskins after Chad Johnson

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Redskins recently offered their first-round pick in 2008 and their third-rounder in 2009 for Chad Johnson.
The third-rounder could've escalated to a first-rounder based on performance in 2009, but the Redskins were turned down. Mort says this is the first "significant proposal" Cincinnati has received for Chad. There is a chance Washington will up its offer on draft day, but the Bengals aren't budging yet.

How serious are the Cincinnati Bengals about not giving in to Chad Johnson's trade demands?
Serious enough to swat away an offer from the Washington Redskins that could have netted the Bengals two first-round draft picks, team and league sources said.
The Redskins offered its first-round pick, No. 21 overall, and a conditional third-rounder in 2009 that could escalate to a first rounder if Johnson and the Redskins hit certain performance levels, the sources said.
It was not the first time the Redskins approached the Bengals about a deal, but it was the first significant proposal.
The Bengals have not only rejected the Redskins, but two other NFC East suitors -- the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles -- have been informed that there has been no change in the team's position that Johnson will not be traded.
The Bengals have noted to those suitors that Johnson has been the "second-highest paid receiver" in the NFL during the past three years, indignant about suggestions that Johnson also wants a new contract, the sources said.
Trading Johnson also would mean Cincinnati would take an $8 million salary-cap hit, but that amount could be split over the next two years. Additionally, as one owner who wished to remain anonymous told ESPN.com, "There's nothing wrong with dead money. It's cash already paid and it's cash back in your pocket that you don't have to spend, especially with the [high] amount of everyone's salary cap these days."

Exactly here we go again. This is just unbelievable. Our team will just never get it. We have already tried to bring in the superstars with the big salaries while squandering away our draft picks. We are the poster models for why this doesn't work. I'm so frustrated right now it's not even funny. We have to start developing some of our own talent through he draft and stop meddling with these me first kind of guys.
I don't know how much more of this insanity from our team that I can handle. Everyone knows the definition of insanity right? Someone that does something over and over again expecting a different oucome. This fits that to a T. I'm tired of it folks thats all.

As much as i hate this deal and I hope we dont call thier bluff and try to offer more on draft day...but I think doing this deal has as much to do getting a Great WR as it does not letting him go to Dallas or Philly

1) REPORTEDLY ... react when something happens, not when it's assumed or speculated
2) This would not be the first time the Redskins have been reported to have an alleged interest in order to drive up the asking price. Now the Bengals can say "hey, look what we turned down" and use this as an attempt to mollify Johnson. Note this is my speculation.
3) You're lying if you say the idea of teams having to cover Moss one-on-one doesn't make you salivate a little bit.
4) I still don't think this will happen

Here are his contract terms: The base salaries for the balance of the deal are as follows: $3 million (for 2008), $4.5 million (2009), $5 million (2010) and $6 million (2011). There are workout bonuses of $250,000 in each of those seasons. If the Bengals do not exercise the option for the 2011 campaign, they must make Johnson a non-exercise payment of $3.5 million.
As things currently stand, even the $3 Million Johnson is due to make this season would pretty much break the bank, and that is assuming he would take the same amount from another team.

Ok guys if were upset about this we need to just relax and breathe. who knows if this is true. And if this true I actually don't have a problem with this. And the reason why is its different then in the past. The Redskins in the past just jumped right out there at the very beginning of when the FA started and had to be the very first to sign players. The Redskins this year have been very quiet until this report. The Redskins have been patient and have done their homework. I think the Bengals are the dumbest franchise for not taking this deal. Oh and remember guys we have 9 picks this year.

One thing is for certain. If the Bengals have any actual intention of trading Chad Johnson we'll know within the next four days. There is no way Cincy trades Johnson without getting another first round pick in this year's draft.

Danny needs to make this happen.
CJ is elite. Bringing him here is equivalent to New England bringing in R.Moss last year, or the Pukes bringing in T.O.
He makes a huge impact. You can't deny that. That big of a impact player has not been seen on a Redskins offense sense Art Monk. He's not that kind of character, but he is already friends with many Skins, in Life it is your friends that get you in or out of trouble.

A first and a third is a lot. If we offered that I can see it, but I hope next year's escalating to a first round pick isn't true, unless he needs to get 200 catches and we have to win the Super Bowl.

Chad has demonstrated that if he doesn't get his way, he will spill poison in the locker room (as he is doing in Cincy right now). This would be a bad deal.

This illustrates why both franchises are average to horrid year to year.
Cincy is run by a stubborn old school family and makes bad, conservative 'prove a point' decisions or just uninspired, snail slow changes in their operating philosophy.
And the Skins are run like a fantasy team where the owner gets a boner for a player (moss, briggs, Chad) and becomes obsessed with having him no matter the cost in karma in the locker room, fit with the scheme, fan reaction, and salary cap. Not that I don't approve - I like that they keep swinging for the fences. They should connect one of these years. Maye Chad is that home run?
But bottom line, Cincy needs to make this trade and the Skins need the trade to die. Proof in point, if we had traded our 6 last year for Briggs, we wouldn't have Landry who is a future all star. And for Cincy, look back to how a bad deal with Owens ruined the Eagles season - they need to get rid of him.
Draft day should be interesting.

Good point. And what about Lewis? Did you see he said he's sure Chad's a man of his word and will definitely sit out this year to prove it? Why do we want to take on their problem for them and give up so much to do it? You convinced me, even a 1 and a 3 is too much. I also didn't realize he was 30. I'm even thinking a straight up 1 is too much.

I hope we do not make this trade - this is a player that recently signed a deal and then 2 years later, wants out - I also hope that Lewis sticks by his word - he said we are not trading Johnson and now he has added that he hopes that Johnson sticks by his promise to sit out the season IF he is not traded.

Drew Rosenhaus has a client that wants to be traded
His client also wants more money despite being paid very well
Now, all of the sudden, there are rumors that the Redskins are trying to offer lots of high picks for this player.
Could it be that Rosenhaus leaks information to the media to generate more trade interest in his client? Naw, no way!

I was CJ's biggest fan. He was my favorite player but I don't know if I see him working on this team. After his recent ranting, I don't want him on our team. I feel that we could find someone else who is cheaper and less of a hassle than a premadona than CJ.

It is 100% positive that the Redskins offered a 1st and a conditional 3rd rounder (that could escalate to a 1st rounder) for Chad Johnson.
That is a stone cold fact, so no more nonsense talk about this being a leak. It's been officially reported by the Bengals.
It would be a really nice trade for the Redskins, and I don't see how anyone could think he wouldn't work on this team. What rants is anyone talking about?
Just because a guy is unhappy in a certain situation (even a seemingly enviable one) it does NOT mean that he's some kind of jerk.
I've heard Chad Johnson interviewed on ESPN radio and the like... the reporters LOVE him, his teammates love him... he's really smart and well spoken. He seems to be a really good guy... he just doesn't like playing in Cincy... and who can blame him?
If you play in Cincy, and half the team is on weed and the other half has a rap sheet as long as your arm, what kind of environment is that? I actually applaud CJ for wanting to get into a better environment.
The thing is, if the Bengals let him get his way, more unsatisfied players in Cincy will want out... IMO the Bengals refusal of this generous offer is because they don't want to deal with the backlash of having to satisfy more trade demands.
