Top 64 NFL Receivers by Scouts, Inc.

Moss is the only Redskin on the list and he comes in at number 33.
33. Santana Moss
Washington Redskins
Moss is small (5-10, 200), but few players in the league can rival his deep speed. He gets pushed around too much, can wear down and has trouble staying healthy. Also, he was tied for third in the league with 10 drops last season, according to Stats LLC. However, with new coach Jim Zorn expected to throw more often than the Redskins did in the past, Moss could have a resurgence. It is clear he will never be a top red zone option or a No. 1 wideout who can consistently handle double-teams, but Moss can be a difference-maker as a complementary option. Zorn will get the ball in his hands.

I can understand this rating. Everything he said about Moss sounds true.

I think the comment about Moss is correct. He is small , not physical. But I still like his speed..nobody can catch him when he goes deep, except the football. jejejeje...

Might be true, but does anybody think Moss plays small?

When Moss is in his best form (and it's been a couple of years), he's a top-5 receiver. What did Scouts, Inc. say about him after 2005? How is that helpful for forecasting into the future? I appreciate analysis like this, but by its nature it's always behind by a year.
My view is that we shouldn't really care what rankings like these say. The Skins offense as a whole hasn't had a good season in a few years, and so of course Moss isn't going to be in the top-10 receiver list--he's not a superstar, after all. But when the offense is clicking again, he'll be a legitimate #1.

Being a fan of both the Canes and Skins, I've seen Moss play for a long time and am a huge fan of his, but it's crazy talk to suggest that he is top 5. When he's at his best he is a top 15, maybe even top 10 receiver, but top 5 is crazy. When you talk about a top 5 receiver those are guys like TO and Reggie Wayne that can beat double teams, score from anywhere on the field, score in the red zone, etc. Moss is great at what he does, but he doesn't have the type of strength to compensate for not being very big the way that Steve Smith can. Moss will simply never score consistently enough to be a top 5 receiver.

No it's not. Look at his 2005 stats.

2005 was far and away Moss' best season. Yet he still didn't crack the top 5 in the NFL in either receptions (he was 9th) or td's (he was 8th). No doubt he can be a very dangerous receiver. But he simply isn't as dominant as some of the elite receivers in the NFL. He is an average #1 receiver and could be one of the best #2 receivers in the NFL if we were able to land a guy like Chad Johnson (not that I'm advocating that, just using it as an example) or Roy Williams.

Ah, yes, it's been a while. But I do recall now why it's pointless debating you. No doubt we would have been hearing about yards, 20+ and 40+ yard gains, or some other stat. . .if you were on the other side of the debate.
No thanks; I'm not playing this game.

I disagree with the whole list not just where Moss was placed. Everything said about Moss was valid, but surely no one here believes that Santonio Holmes is a better receiver than Moss. Lee Evans...no way. Then to insult everyones intelligence, they say Coles is as tough as they come. Come on guys, this dude has his gynecologist on speed dial. Last thing, ask Aaron Glenn and Roy Williams if Moss can beat the double team.

Mentionong Roy Williams in anything else but a horse collar not called is wasting your time. Everyone knows he's covers worse than AA....

Coles is tough he is just fragile. Meaning: he can deal w/a lot od pain, but gets injured easy.

Just last year. He never really had a problem w/that before. Half of his ten drops came in the GB game and was a huge part of that loss.

I love Santana Moss, but let's be honest here. He didn't show up some games this year. If your gonna wear the tag #1 wideout, then you must bring it "every" week. When he's on, he is one of the best. He has to be more consistent this year. New offense might be just what the doctor ordered....

It was a response to validating receiver status. I guess if you don't read the whole thread, you would get that impression. My bad.

Well, most of last year, he suffered injuries that affected his play (like groin, hamstring, and heel injuries). All would take away from his ability to explode to the ball.
It's not like he has a lot of size to fall back on when his agility/explosiveness is taken away....

Quote on Moss wrote:but few players in the league can rival his deep speed.
True
Quote on Moss wrote:He gets pushed around too much
True and a main reason we need a big bodied WR.
Quote on Moss wrote:can wear down and has trouble staying healthy.
This is accurate. Just because he's playing doesn't mean that he's healthy. He had a ton of injuries in NY and some nagging stuff here.
Quote on Moss wrote:It is clear he will never be a top red zone option
He's too short. True.
Quote on Moss wrote:No. 1 wideout who can consistently handle double-teams
True, the key word is CONSISTENLY. Sure he can do it but he's not built for that type of load. It's not a knock on him personally, it's out of his hands. LOL

Just like all those drops he had last year.
Quote on Moss wrote:but Moss can be a difference-maker as a complementary option.
I've been saying for a while that he's not a real #1 guy... It's hard to explain and it's not a knock on Moss. I love the guy and he's a favorite but he'll definitely compliment and be complimented by a strong prescence on the opposite side of the field. I'm sorry but ARE is not that person and neither is

ey. If we can get a legit, big, sure handed WR that contributes consistently look for Santana to soar....
Jason will need to make defenses pay for doubling Moss. Abuse

ey, ARE and WRx to the point where they are forced to either let those guys beat them or let up off of Moss.
Moss and Jason need to prepare this off season and work on their timing big time. That deep ball MUST connnect!

He doesn't even have to be that big, just good.

I did read the entire thread and one small mention of R. Williams the DB didn't really resonate with me. The fact that R Williams the WR was not only mentioned in a post, but also in the link, and this being a receiver thread, makes me think R. Williams the WR. MY bad.

Maybe that's an advantage to using the quote function, to show what one is relplying to.
As far as staying on the WR topic, I agree with EVERYTHING CLL had to say. Moss is/isn't a true #1. He just needs someone different on the opposite side of the field, not another short/shifty WR. If the Skins can add size to the other side (along with good hands), ARE should do very well in the slot and

ey on the end.
This offense has tons of potential, but it mostly rides with Campbell. Let's hope he's up to the challenge.

I still think we gamble with Mix and draft defense in the 1st and maybe a WR in the 2nd. If Zorn likes 'em, he's(Mix) gonna get a chance, anyway. Focus on other needs and if a good talent WR is available when we our number's called, go for it. We didn't really need two top 10 safeties when we drafted LL, so I'm more supportive of best on the board now.

I favor picking the player who can help the team the most.

I like the "best on the board" view also.
If you have a Reggie Bush or a Calvin Johnson, and your team's need is a DT. You still draft the Reggie Bush or Calvin Johnson. But it all depends on the talent. All I've heard about this year is "there isn't a lot of talent on the board".
That's great isn't it!!!! The first year in a long time the Skins have more than one pick and they say this year is the year without a lot of talent. That sucks.
