Rams signed WR Reche Caldwell to a one-year, $645,000 contract.

It's a low risk signing for the price, but it isn't like Caldwell has much potential either. True, except that we currently don't have a #4 receiver. For that matter we don't even have a #2. We need some receivers badly.

ok, yah, it's off season, I'm bored. Rams lost Bruce, so I think it's a good signing for them. For RC though, he is running out of options, IMO if he doesn't make it there, he won't make it anywhere...

True, except that we currently don't have a #4 receiver. For that matter we don't even have a #2. We need some receivers badly.

We need to train and demand more from those on the roster....Mix can probably mixitup...............

I'm with you on that, I like that he's big, but I like it even more that he and JC played together before. At least when JC gets excited and starts doing the 'mississipi twang, at least someone in the lineup understands him.

When they last played together, Mix caught 19 passes. Big deal.

In a bedroom somewhere, CLL is wearing his Caldwell Redskins jersey and holding his Caldwell bobble-head doll, and crying.

On Mix...if you guys watch SEC football...Auburn had a serious problem trying to figure out how to use Mix. He couldn't block well enough to play TE and wasn't as fast as their speed WR's. He didn't play much at Auburn but did well when called upon.

Wish we kept Caldwell but oh well...

I think Mix will do very well for the Skins!

Redskins Insider reports that Caldwell would have earned around $750k for signing with the Skins. I wonder if the numbers in this report on the Rams deal is inaccurate. (Or, perhaps he decided to go to St. Louis because he felt like he'd have more of a chance to play there.)

He also only got a 1 year deal so this season will an opportunity to try and earn a multi year contract next year. He already is familiar with Saunders' system and the Rams have more stability at the qb spot than we do so signing with the Rams does make a lot of sense for Caldwell.

How is Caldwell a mercenary? He might not have been an All Pro, but at least he gave us some depth. With him gone that leaves us with only 3 receivers with any real NFL experience.

He´s a mercenary because he played for exactly 8 games with the Skins during last season. He signed where he was needed when he was needed. That´s a mercenary in my book, Canes.

Now he goes to SL with Saunders, where he sees a good chance to have some success since the Rams throw like crazy. Good luck there RC.

That, folks, is called reality.

This is an example of how poor signings like Blloyd cost us double, not only do we lose the cap we committed to bbloyd and lose blloyd but we also find ourselves either strapped by the cap or too gun shy to pull the trigger on a D.J. Hackett or Reche Caldwell, we are now going around insulting players by offering league minimums because we are expecting the worst; now maybe thats smart or maybe its dumb, bottom line at the end of the day we still need a #2 WR.

I like hearing Chad Johnson say he'll go play arena football, if he can make cincy sick of him enough maybe on draft day they'll see our #21 and think why not.

I think this was a bad move but whatever. What's done is done.

I'm worried that we're going to be crying the blues if ARE, Moss or Mix are lost for a significant amount of time. It would have been wise to lock up a sure thing in Rece at least until a rookie WR shows he can play in this league.

$645,000 is very reasonable for a veteran wide receiver, even as an emergency receiver. I have to believe the Redskins have another plan of action. If not, I'll add this to my Cerrato Knows Nothing and here's the list to prove it list.

Vinny seems to be doing some decent things so far, I'm pleased....or moreso indifferent. To be honest I'm still jaded to football after the tragedy.

The guy was solid. When he was given time, he excelled. The fact that ARE was our #2 IMO shows me that that staff didn't know what they were doing inregards to that position. As soon as Zorn stepped into town he put ARE right where he belongs....in the slot.

1) It took him months to learn enough of the playbook to make it onto the field.
2) The only reason he got on the field is that Thrash & NcCardell were both injured.
3) He averaged less than 10 yds/catch.

We'll see what the FO has in store for us. I'm still cautiously optimistic about our off-season. We have a lot of draft picks and still have post June 1st cuts to sift thru and also pre-season cuts. There's still a lot of time for us to get something done. Granted, we're not getting any big names, but there is solid anonymous quality out there we can uncover.

Are you serious? He didn't see the field because he wasn't brought in to be a starter. Gibbs didn't want to step on anyones fingers even though he clearly was a good player for us when he was in.

Nobody is saying he's a beast but he was cheap and effective. We lack solid depth at the position and are one injury away from being screwed.

I can't see any draft pick improving this lineup that much.
Touchdown Jesus isn't in this draft class, and even if he was, he wouldn't be available at #21.

The latest rumor has it that Limas Sweed may not go in the first round.
While I find this hard to believe, I wouldn't mind if he fell to #21. I don't see Kelly or Jackson being available at #21. The Bills, Eagles and Buccaneers need wide receivers. Here's hoping these teams go for speed over size, although Filthy will probably draft a big target out of necessity.

He wasn't even in uniform for weeks. McCardell was ahead of him untill he got injured. 10 yds/catch isn't spectacular. For a WR it is pathetic.
