If not for Samuel Adrian Baugh the Redskins franchise may not have survived the early days of the NFL and we wouldn't be gathered here talking about them.

As Steve Sabol put it: "He was Peyton Manning, Ray Guy and Ronnie Lott all in one player".

Happy Birthday Sammy!

"94 yrs later"? :hmm:

Is that from the end of his playing days, or from his exit from the womb. I'm confused by your statement.

If it's from the end of his playing days, it has not been quite 94 years yet.

If it's 94 years from his birth, you are absolutely right, as an infant, he must have had ginormous nads, steel ones.

Let's just say that no one is likely ever again to:

- lead the NFL in passing

- lead the NFL in interceptions (made...not thrown!)

- lead the NFL in punting

- act as a running back as well

all in the same season.

Sammy Baugh made the forward pass a normal offensive weapon, rather than a third-down last-ditch forlorn hope.

Happy-birthday, Sammy!

This is one guy I would love to meet (very unlikely) or at least have a chance to talk to before he (heck.. or I) passes.

This guy was everything you could ask for in a football player... and then some... because today... it's hard to imagine a player playing more than one position without asking for more money and bringing "me me me" into the equation. Sammy just did it because he loved it.
