Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears have re-signed free-agent LB Lance Briggs (Bears) to a six-year contract worth $36 million.

March 1, 2008 BY BRAD BIGGS The Bears might have lost Bernard Berrian, but it didn't take them long to land their other major free agent.
Three-time Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs has agreed to a $36 million, six-year contract to remain with the organization.
This, hours after wide receiver Bernard Berrian signed a $42 million, six-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
Though the decision of linebacker Lance Briggs to re-sign with the Bears has created the impression that he had no options elsewhere, a league source tells us that the Redskins made a run at Briggs.
It was, per the source, "very close" between the Redskins and the Bears. In the end, Briggs decided given the similarity of the numbers to stay home.
Factoring in the $7.2 million salary he earned as a franchise player in 2007, Briggs will earn $28.8 million over four years.
Factoring in the Lamborghini he crashed and abandoned, the number is more like $28.3 million.

Despite reports to the contrary, multiple sources say the Skins did not make any real push for Lance Briggs; in fact, Chicago was his strong suitor by a mile.
To me, it sounds like that "league source" quoted in that earlier article was none other than:
Rosenhaus said Briggs was close to signing with the Washington Redskins, who tried to acquire him last summer, and that Green Bay, Tampa Bay and New Orleans were interested.
"I didn't think I was going to be a Chicago Bear. I actually thought I was headed to Washington," Briggs said from his home in Arizona. "At the last minute, my agent (Drew Rosenhaus) told me we had a deal with the Bears. We talked for a while, and I told him this was the deal that made sense."

I usually don't go against JLC but his source must be wrong because this quote came straight from Briggs' mouth.
Sooooooo "the Danny" made a move to Briggs, offered LESS than what was on the table last year and refused to match what the Bears came back with.
Looks like "the Danny" is still involved in setting the market price, at least he's not being stupid this year.

With "the Danny" it's always been "I'll be the top spender... and it doesn't matter if I overspend", while his own players were signing elsewhere. That's not a intelligent business practice.

All signs point to "Yes". Of course, free agency is nowhere near over with. And so, for Redskins fans, we continue our regularly scheduled program, "As The Stomach Churns", after this brief commercial interruption.
Weird that the contract he signed doesn't differ too greatly from the one he turned down last year that led the Bears to franchise him in the first place. Oh well!

The Briggs deal is the biggest bargain of the early signing period
