One of the surprise names available on the trade market is Sheppard, writes John Clayton.
According to at least two NFL teams, Sheppard has been given permission by the Eagles to shop his name around for a possible trade. In 2004, Sheppard signed an eight-year, $36.7 million contract with the Eagles. With elite cornerbacks now getting more than $7 million a year, Sheppard is apparently hoping he can find a new team that is willing to upgrade his contract and satisfy the Eagles in a trade.
The free-agent cornerback market is going to be thin if the Raiders franchise Nnamdi Asomugha and the Seahawks do the same with Marcus Trufant. That would leave Asante Samuel of the Patriots and Drayton Florence of the Chargers as the top available cornerbacks in free agency. If the market is thin, interest will pick up for Sheppard.
Sheppard, who turns 27 in April, is under contract with the Eagles through 2011 and is scheduled to make $2.75 million this season. The 5-foot-10, 194-pounder is considered one of the better man-to-man coverage cornerbacks in football. He went to the Pro Bowl in 2004 and 2006.

Springs and a third! Wow! So you think he is a top 5 CB. Is that just in the NFC East or in the NFC? Because Lito isn't even a top 15 CB in the NFL. Never been impressed w/him.

I don't think he has ever played a complete season. Bad risk.

I also don't think I have ever seen two teams trade inside the division before.

I'll give you a contract with a base salary of $5, progressively getting larger by $2 every year for five years and a signing bonus of $12. Just sign on the line.

Feb. 19: The Eagles have denied television reports that they had granted Sheppard and his agent, Lamont Smith, permission to seek a trade, according to The Philadelphia Enquirer. Sheppard, 26, signed a five-year, $25 million contract extension in 2004 and is signed through 2011. The two-time Pro Bowler is scheduled to make $2 million next season.

Let's trade every draft pick from now through 2050 and get DeAngelo Hall, Chad Johnson, Lito Sheppard, Tom Brady, Shawne Merriman, Lance Briggs, Mat McBriar, T.O., Bill Belichick, and anyone else I forgot to mention.
Has anyone here watched any Redskins football the last 15 years or so? If so, how's that "trade draft picks for old guys" thing working out? Does history mean anything to most folks here, or do you just like to hear yourself type?
