Rogers and McIntosh Injury Updates!!!

Redskins head trainer Bubba Tyer revealed that Rocky McIntosh did not tear both his MCL and ACL in Week 15 of last season.

Only the anterior cruciate ligament was torn, reducing McIntosh's recovery time substantially. The team now expects him to be ready for training camp.

Redskins CB Carlos Rogers (torn MCL, ACL) is not expected to be available for Week 1.

Rogers' rehab took a positive turn recently, but the 'Skins may still consider placing him on PUP to start 2008. There's little doubt that Shawn Springs will be retained now. Springs and Fred Smoot figure to start on opening day.

I didn't think Rogers would be back before week 2 or 3 anyway, considering when he got hurt during the year. Wasn't it the Pats game? Rocky's news is very good.

Cut out the middle man Please!

Good news about Rocky, and yes we lost Rogers in the NE game. One game I don't ever want to be reminded of again.

I'm hoping Carlos is going to prove me wrong and come back with a vengeance whenever he returns. Maybe this severe injury will give him time to study, observe, and reflect on what's been wrong and how to right it. Call me crazy, but I have a good feeling about this upcoming year! HTTR

WIth the good news on Rocky, I hope this means they don't make a move for Lance Briggs.

Awesome news on Rocky. Like somebody mentioned above, hopefully that ends the Briggs talk. As for Rogers, expecting anything from him in 2008 is pretty unrealistic. Even if he is able to make it back, he likely isn't going to be 100% at any point during the season.

Get Carlos a pass rush and he'd shine...

Good news about the injuries, things are a tiny bit less bleak.

The best news from that article is the fact that they are saying springs will be retained. He was probably the MVP of the defense in are winning stretch at the end of last season and has been consistent the whole time he has been a redskin.

It really baffled me when Gregg williams didnt start him in the beginning of the season.

Well thats great news, especially if Rogers isnt ready for the start of the season.

I seem to recall Williams saying that there were injury concerns with him at the beginning of the season, he then went on to say that it was a strategy to keep him fresh for the end.

Yeah, lose all the games at the crucial midpoint of the season so that you are fresh for a last season surge that will get you into the playoffs -- just barely. What a great strategy. ???

Did they get into the playoffs?

Would they have done so without Springs?

Why not push for Briggs, the guy was a pro-bowl linebacker under Blache, we need all the pass rush we can get and that guy brings pressure, saw somewhere ttit is courting Zach Thomas I hope that doesn't happen.

I see our LB need as a young SLB to groom behind Washington. Briggs would take a lot of cap space that can be better used elsewhere.

We do need a passrush. That's why signing a linebacker to a huge contract who has had exactly 5.5 sacks in his 78 games played (5 years) in the league doesn't make any sense.

For all the things Briggs does well, rushing the passer isn't one of them.

Signing a big-ticket free-agent has failed for Snyder far more often than it has worked. If the DC wants someone badly enough to pinch the already-pinched salary cap, let them say so. Williams and Blache wanted Fletcher...good move, although, as we all said, it would have been better to keep Pierce. Oh, how I hate seeing those "Pierce" jerseys in Modells in NYC.

Draft better.

Rogers mending, still not close to game shape

The difference between "man on the street" shape and "NFL" shape is vast.

Cornerback Carlos Rogers tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee against New England on Oct. 28.

He had surgery and was out for the rest of the season. On Wednesday, Rogers was in the gym in the basement of Redskin Park, shooting baskets. He seemed to be moving fine and wasn't wearing a brace.

Yet Redskins coach Jim Zorn said Rogers will not be ready to play until September or maybe even October.

Rogers still must go through rehabilitation and regain the strength and range of motion in the knee that will enable him to play in the NFL.

Rogers 'Making Progress' With Knee Rehab
By Gary Fitzgerald
Redskins.com
March 10, 2008

It has been four-and-a-half months since Carlos Rogers suffered knee ligament injuries that ended his 2007 season.
Rogers underwent surgery to repair the knee last November. The subsequent rehab could limit his availability for training camp and preseason.

Rogers said recently that he has targeted the Redskins' 2008 season opener for his return to action.

Whether that's attainable or not, Rogers knows he has to set goals to help with his recovery.

"My body is going to tell me when I'm ready," he told Larry Michael on Redskins Radio on March 7. "I'm making progress. I'm looking at it as, we don't play until September, so I have about six months to get ready.

"I'm just trying to keep getting better and getting stronger [in the knee]. I'm taking it day by day. It's a long process and I don't want to rush it."

Rogers spends his days at Redskins Park working with athletic trainers and rehabbing the knee. Improving agility and building up strength in the weight room is a focus. He has started jogging on a treadmill.

He is eager for the weather to turn warm so that he can run outside and test his knee on the Redskins Park practice fields.

"The hard part is bending my knee, getting it all the way back," he said. "That's the painful part of it. It breaks up the scar tissue. But I don't have any pain when I'm running or weightlifting."

Rogers expects to participate in the Redskins' off-season workout program, which starts in late March. He won't work on conditioning with teammates, and may sit out some running drills.

Rogers showed improvement last season after an up-and-down 2006 campaign. He started seven games and recorded 24 tackles (21 solo) and one interception that he returned 61 yards for a touchdown against Detroit.

He suffered his injury in Week 8 at New England when he tried to make a tackle on a screen pass and his leg got intertwined with a pursuing London Fletcher.

Rogers admitted it was hard to watch Redskins games from afar instead of being on the field with teammates.

He took solace in that his former Auburn teammates, running backs Ronnie Brown and Carnell "Cadillac" Williams, were also sidelined for the season with knee injuries.

"Once I had the surgery, I knew both of my best friends [Brown and Williams] had the same surgery, so it was something we all went through together," Rogers said.

With Rogers uncertain for the start of the 2008 season and David Macklin an unrestricted free agent, the Redskins could look to add depth at cornerback this offseason.

Shawn Springs and Fred Smoot are experienced starters, and Leigh Torrence is a young cornerback who impressed last season. The team could use a high draft pick on a cornerback to add more depth and speed to the secondary.

Why? Carlos Rogers was a mediocre corner before he hurt his knee, and he'll be lucky if he's a mediocre corner after the injury.

McIntosh, on the other hand, can play. That he's going to be fine is fantastic news.

Put Rogers in a defense with a pass rush and he'd do just fine.

Smoot, Springs and Rogers would get snatched up by a bunch of teams if they were free agents.

I'm sorry I just refuse to rag on our DB's when our pass rush is trash. I just won't. A pass rush is not OPTIONAL, it is mandatory for a great defense. DB's cannot and will not be able to cover for 30 seconds at a time. But I know that some believe that DB's are magical and know the WR's routes, their breaks and stopping points.

The best thing is he understands how important "Range & Motion" is in this process. Regaining strength is the easy part due to muscle memory but getting your knee to bend back to where it was before is the hard part. I just hope he's not a big baby and that he's pushing himself. I don't like hearing, "My body will let me know when I'm ready." I've had 4 knee operations on the same knee so I've been through rehab enough to almost do it myself the next time. Push yourself Carlos within reason. If they say do a mile. Go over a mile.

Exactly. Rogers was playing very well for us before the injury.

Some posters here think that a young player should immediately play at a pro-bowl level or else they're a total bust. You get a whole 3 game grace period!

Well, this is his fourth season. Should we expect anything out of him yet? I mean the 1st three seasons, being a top 10 pick and all, were just TRAINING him for the NFL I guess -drinking

The Redskins were tied for 16th in the league in sacks. Yeah, our pass rush ought to be better, but we were still a league average team. And since a slowed-down Smoot and an always banged-up Springs held up just fine, I'm not sure why the pass rush is relevant.

He's good enough to make an NFL roster, but he's our third best corner. And again, if you think it's a given that he's going to come back 100% from knee surgery, I've got some bad news.

Unless your definition of "immediately" is "three years into his career", I'm not sure what you're talking about. How long does the #9 overall pick get? Five years? Just let me know when I am allowed to label Carlos Rogers a bust.

As long as he's wearing Burgundy and Gold, I'm pulling for Rogers. I'm just not betting on him.

I think, especially with a position like CB which requires learning, it takes a few seasons. I think in season 3 is when he finally got it, and it was showing. Then he got injured....
