Are you really a "True" Fan?

I have waited for the news of our new coach, and have read nothing but negative comments about how our owner runs his team. Is it the high tech era that allows people to think they actually know what and why things are happening? I remember not knowing anything except when the nightly news made the official announcment. I am really not concerned about what some individuals "think" about what is going to happen. I just look forward to the guys who actually play, coach or LOVE the Redskins. I love my SKINS whether they lose or win. I have been thru the thick and thin. It just aggravates me all I hear is the negativty. Please lets just show positive attitudes. Thanks

While I agree that sometimes the negativity can go a bit overboard, criticism is all a part of being a "true" fan. If you care for your team, you get upset when the management (especially one with a bad reputation) makes some questionable calls. My position is that I'll be pretty upset if we get Fassel, but I'll at least give the man a chance to prove himself in his first season. Now if we get Mooch or (knock on wood) Russ Grimm, then I'll applaud the Danny.

Even true fans know when to voice their displeasure over very, very, very, very stupid decisions.

Amen...Geez I'm sick of this "true" fan crap. NO ONE should ever consider themself more of a fan than another. This "true" fan notion is just plain silly and childish.

Welcome to the board JimAmy2005!

We gotta be patient with JimAmy2005. Besides, he is a new poster, probably a young fan who has not suffered the dysfunctional ownership and many years of his bone-headed decisions.

Hey big guy, we are here because we LOVE our team. But just like in any family, you would try to put in order the one member out of line who threatens to destroy it. We consider our owner to be a diasaster-man walking. He is truly threatening the well-being and the future of the Redskin family.

The ONLY tool available to fans to tone down his megalomaniac obsession to become a GM / President / Owner is to voice our displeasure with his dumb actions.

We love the Skins. Our owner is a bit of a mental case. That's all.

We all (well most here) are fans of the Redskins. Despite the rhetoric and frustration, despite what you think about the FO, coaches or the players, we are all on an equal footing so to speak.

We are entitled to our different viewpoints and we each think we understand what the team needs to do from top to bottom to be successful but deep down we each just want for the Washington Redskins to be considered one of the best in the NFL.

Some think we are in dire straits right now but like most things it is most likely not nearly as bad as it seems at first. Things will work out but most here are just a little frustrated with this search because of two things: a lack of viable candidates (well to us fans anyway) to select from and an owner, sidekick & FO with a bad rep for NFL knowledge.

Welcome to the site and feel free to jump in - as you can read here, there are a bunch of different perspectives on just about everything from how the owner operates to how a receiver catches .... and nearly all are going to be proven wrong - this is a place to voice your opinion - its all good

Don't fault fans for being pissed about the poor decisions that have been made over the past 8 years, and by the looks of it, it seems like there is another huge one on the horizon.

Don't fault fans for thinking it's as easy as hiring the best available GM (someone with football knowledge) to assemble a team and coaching staff. Heck, why would that make any sense, it's just worked for every other team that's won the Super Bowl over the past 10 years.

This past season was just tough, everything that happened capped off by a heartbreak in seattle. And what is our reward? We don't get to hear an emotional Gregg Williams go to the podium and talk about how are team is very close and will compete to win it all next year; no we get to wait until march and then get fassel or some other loser get up there and make kissy face at Dan so he can get $$$$$$$$$$$$. The last two seasons have sucked and this next one is not looking any brighter, what are we suppossed to do?

I love the Reskins, but hate our team“s owner.

I think you can sum it up that way.

Cry, whine, bitch, moan, bellyache, boo-hoo, snivel, complain, second guess, etc...

Jimamy has a point.

Jimamy is in the wrong place if he didn't come looking for negative people though. My 2 cents

I agree totally, just because you might have lived through good and hard times of this franchise, doesn't mean that you cannot voice your opinion, honestly, I think the public outcry from the fans helped DANNY BOY make a better decision by not going with Fassel.

I don't know what a TRUE FAN is. If it means memorizing every stat, knowing every player by face and number, and knowing the complete history of the team from its begining...then I am not.

I know that the Skins win I have a great outlook on the upcoming week. When they lose, stay out of my way!

My Sundays (Mondays,Saturdays,Thursdays) are completely organized around the game time kick off.

I own more hats,jerseys,t-shirts,skins football cards, and stuff than I know what to do with.

I know I bleed burgundy and gold.

So Jim Zorn is the head coach. Nine years ago an unknown quarterback coach took over the hated Eagles. Four time NFC champs, one Superbowl apperence and stability beyond belief, compair that to US.I will give Mr. Zorn a shot and hope he is the right man for the job.

R I P #21

How many 'chances' can you give someone before you actually have an opinion of them? I've seen enough of Danny to have an opinion as a lot of people have. If you choose to be part of the herd, then do so, but do not criticize others for having their own opinion contrary to yours.

Everyone I've talked to at work seem to be of the same opinion: Danny's playing fantasy football with the Washington Redskins, dragging our good name through the mud. He needs to take a step back and make sound business decisions as he's done to make his money. This moneypot he's buoght will become less lucrative soon if he keeps dragging it down and toying with it like a hobby.

As for being a 'true fan,' who makes the decision that any one individual is more of a 'fan' than others??! We all have our own opinions and ideals of what makes us and others 'true fans.' You think because I come here and vent (maybe moreso than some people think is reasonable) with people with a like interest and discuss what I've known and loved for more than 20 years, that I'm not a true fan?? You're sadly mistaken, sir. My two boys(7yo and 2mo) even got their Christmas picture in Redskins garb. Baby's 1st Christmas is Redskins...tell me I'm not a fan....... Monkey

My 2 cents

I see your new here..Welcome.
So this is the definition of a true fan??
Renewing my season tickets every year, driving a hour and an half to every home game, attending 8 away games in the past 3 years that has nothing to do we be a true fan :?:

I think there are certain maxims that fans must follow (i.e. never, under any circumstances, can you root against your team) in order to claim citizenship, so to speak, but this notion of positivity in the face of everything isn't fandom, it's cultism. It is essential to be able to objectively evaluate your team, that doesn't mean I think the fans who have an instinctually negative reaction to everything have it right either. It's about striking a balance.

It really becomes a fine line. If you support the REDSKINS, this umbrella includes the players, owner, staff, right down to the folks answering the phones. But, its a family - I can slam DS or whoever, but outside the family - not cool, just as it isn't cool to questions someone else's loyalties within the family.

Right now DS and the front office deserves the criticism they are getting - but after a point it just becomes self gratifying. If it makes you feel better, vent, but you need to get over it and move on.

One thing that is not changing for a while is that Danny is the owner and isn't going anywhere.

I just hope the TEAM - coaches and players - can succeed despite the current FO and their inability to properly manage this team, and that DS grows into the owner he needs to be to lead this team back to respectability.

Time will tell.

First off I'm was not being critical of anyone. However the nagative B.S. is going overboard. There are alot worse owners in the league then Dan Snyder. Dan Snyder has made mistakes like everyone else has in their lifetime. Our you without mistakes? Well, give Dan Snyder a break. Dan Snyder did a wonderful job in hiring Joe Gibbs and Joe Gibbs made this team much better then when he came here. Its not Dan Snyder fault that Gibbs retired. Dan Snyder has tried to make this team better. What, do you want Dan Snyder to go out there and play to? The coaches tell Dan Snyder I want this player or I want that player and then Snyder goes out there and gets the player the coaches want and then he signs the check.
GW is a perfect example he wanted Adam Archuleta and we all know whan happened. Dan Snyder signed the check and paid the man the money and what happened? By next year they had to get rid of him. So, why don't we blame the coaches? Dan Snyder has given our coaches full control to say hey I want him or I want this dude, there was a time when we had Marty Schottenheimer and Dan Snyder wanted Santana Moss and Snyder made that clear with Marty but what did Marty do he drafted Rod Gardner instead. Well even know that Snyder wasn't happy about it he still paid the man and now where is Rod Gardner? Well, Dan Snyder finally got Santana Moss.
