Last time Vinny and Daniel ran the draft, Spurrier and Marvin Lewis were in helicopters headed to FedEx Field while the draft room was filled with apprehension. Remember they traded down twice and end up drafting Patrick Ramsey despite reports that Spurrier didn't want him. The fear of making a decision comes to mind when it comes to them picking their coach. When Gibbs was here at least their was a "plan". Remember 12:01am they would wisk off to sign free agents and coaches. Now they speak of patience, but to me its sounds like the plan they have keeps changing. That is why I am very interested in watching this years draft. Will they trade up and sacrifice picks to make that "splash" or will they trade down and stockpile picks? Only time will tell, either way it will be entertaining.

There have been some very questionable draft picks over the last few years. One in 2003 stands out...especially after watcing Osi blossom in New York.
2nd Round 2003:
Skins take Taylor Jacobs early in the 2nd round with guys like Osi, Lance Briggs and Jason Witten on the board...just to name a few. Thanks Ball Coach.
Ouch!
You can go up and down NFL rosters of teams that are successful...the one common denominator is that they DRAFT well...particularly in the mid to late rounds.
The draft is the life-blood of a team...and the track-record for the Redskins in this regard does not stack up. Sure, they've had their share of nice picks (i.e. chris cooley) but in totality, over the course of the past 10-15 years, the Skins have consistently not had strenghth in numbers when it comes to their own draft picks making major impacts.
Conversley, look at the Giants.
The vast majority of their Super Bowl winning roster is comprised of THEIR OWN draft picks.
Same story with the Packers...they have a whopping 30 players on their 53 man roster that were orginal Green Bay draft picks. Of those...a staggering 18 were picked in the last two drafts alone! That was the catalyst for their rapid turn-around...shrewd drafting that infused hte team with quality youth.

That hurts really badly in the case of Osi! I have to go throw up now. Thanks

My gut tells me they will trade up and try to get a big receiver or stud O Lineman.l

I am also looking forward:
First we still have the Head Coach award, then we have that fun time called Free Agency and finally the draft
I wonder if we will trade away all of our good players for draft picks OR if we will trade away all of our draft picks for players

There's a saying that comes to mind......
"Hindsight is always 20/20."
We all claim to know more of what's going on (even me sometimes, which calling THAT a stretch is being quite generous), but keep in mind that these guys had their sacks drop and they are DOING it. They're not arm chair QBs and fantasy owners with a coupla bucks riding like we are. This is their profession. We can sit here and claim "Idiot this," and "moron that," all we like, but we really don't know as much as we think we do.
Keep THAT in mind.

I don't claim to know what's going on but I can tell you that people in the industry don't know what's going on and that's what scares me. Ex Redskins, ex-coaches, broadcasters, writers, current coaches and players are perplexed. So you are indeed correct in the thinking that we must wait and see. But since Snyder has owned the team it has been wait and see, and I don't really like what I have seen thus far.

Well, with regard to the draft, as the title of this thread suggests, nobody has any clue what teams are thinking or who they might draft, outside of maybe the 1st and 2nd overall picks. Sports writes make all kinds of predictions and speculations, but front offices around the entire league are secretive, and in fact, can be purposely misleading regarding their intentions. That's the way it's always been.
Trading picks for players and the strategy of that logic can be debated all day long, no argument there. But in my opinion, over the past half decade, I think the Skins have done pretty good with their picks or selections in the draft. Has every pick since been a slam dunk pro bowler? Of course not. But it's a gamble for everyone and every team hits and misses in the draft. That's the beauty of it. The Pat's had nine picks last year but only one player actually made the final 53-man roster.

What you say makes alot of since, and I can fall victim to blaming Snyder for all that ails the Skins. Despite anything that he has done the team has had many opportunities to succeed. Gibbs conservative nature probably cause them to lose 4 games this year, despite the play on the field. Campbell throwing two late interceptions, Portis and Moss fumbling in Green Bay, defensive break down against the Eagles, but in saying this it seems we are always "struggling to win". You see teams like Chicago go 13-3 two different times in a four year strength and they reach dominance once in a while, but we always seem to hover around 7-9 or 9-7 forever. I know its the NFL but mediocrity gets a little old after awhile. But I do understand your points.

The key as has been noted many times here is to do a better job with evaluating whoever comes here. The Patriots seem to be really great at this - they know when to release players even when they have a year or 3 left in them; which players to trade for; which to bring in as free agents and who to draft.
When all these facets work for your team those teams seem to have the best chances at success.
We cannot seem to find that formula with these 2 bozos in charge.
