I've been reading that on ESPN Radio, they said that as soon as the Redskins get Portis, they may trade him to New England for their 2 first round picks.

Ok, this is very insane. I don't know what to make of it. I am hoping this isn't true. I'm so confused! :?

I'm not mad that deals are being made. I'm mad that they are all happening at once and with so much uncertainty behind them when they have been rumored.

I'm not saying this will happen, but there must be at least 1% of relevence to it if it is on ESPN Radio. But then again, ESPN has been known to print false info.

That isn't happening. Remember when there was all of the crazy talk last week and we decided not to buy into absurd rumors. It isn't going to happen.

Would those people that said this sell papers writing article about Portis fitting into Gibbs' system like the other 3,432 columnists covering the story this week did, No. They gotta be different, and say something crazy.

That'd be kind of dumb, Bailey and a 2nd rounder for two first rounders, sounds like a rip to me. This won't happen, Portis is B&G baby!

Yeah, I feel you 55. Tell me to my face, though. Would you mind it if we had THREE picks in Round One ? I mean, fact aside that we can't pay 'em. Who COULDN'T we get with three in the first ? Heck, everybody wants Sean Taylor. Got him. Williams coming into the draft makes Sean a definite possibility at #5. Maybe we can get Gamble or Vasher with the 21st pick. Maybe Starks or McNeil drop down to the last pick of the 1st. BAM ! Three big holes, three big plugs. We'd be the talk of the draft again.

This has to be a BS rumor. New Englands first round picks are not worth Portis. Their 32nd overall 1st rounder is pretty much a 2nd rounder. Giving up a potential HOF RB that we so desperately need is absurd. Even if we trade him, which will totally be idiotic, we could do alot better than New England's picks. KEEP PORTIS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, then. Champ Bailey (who wouldn't sign with us for anything) and a second round pick for another first rounder and a top second rounder(as you say), which could be packaged and traded to another team for all their picks from the second round on down. All I'm trying to do is put a positive spin on whatever comes our way. It doesn't end the debate. It just adds another fans perspective to it. My rose colored glasses haven't been any clearer than this in what, twelve years ?
I respect you, so let me show you where I'm coming from. Here's some of Joe's Jewels who weren't first round picks.
Daryl Grant-9th round (#231 overall) 1981
Russ Grimm -3rd round (#69 overall) 1981
Raleigh McKenzie-11th round (#290) 1985
Chip Lohmiller-2nd round (#55) 1988
Brian Mitchell-5th round (#130) 1990
Joe Jacoby- WALK-ON !

C'mon. Anything could happen. We're the Redskins !

Unless New England is giving there 2 number 1's and something else...this wouldn't make any sense...It would basically be like trading Bailey for a first round pick and move are second round pick 6 spots down...which is way less then what snyder's original deal was to detroit trying to get a first and a second for him...if we don't trade that 2nd to Denver, or get more than the Pats 2 first rounder's, I could see this being a possibility...but otherwise it wouldn't make any sence.

All I'm saying is I don't expect to make the super bowl next year. If we do, thats great. I would rather have some holes in our team and keep Portis than to get rid of Portis (which is completely stupid) and fill up some holes with unproven players in the draft. Keep Portis and sign free agents to fill holes. See how next season goes. Then in 2005, look at what we need and fill the holes that are there by looking in the 2005 draft. We already need a RB. Now we have the best in the NFL. DON"T TRADE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially to New England. They had enough time in the spot light. Hell, if we give them Portis the NFL might as well give the Patiots next year's trophy and officially call them a dynasty.

Man if Dan Snyder is STUPID enough to do this, I honestly am going to start bashing him like that Sally Jenkins lady from the Washington Post. I've always thought that we have the best owner in the league who will get us any players we need despite the cost. Well if this deal goes through I'm going to demand he sells the damn team/

I'm not buying into this rumour either but for another reason. Two first round draft picks is exactly the compensation the Skins would have received if they had simply put the franchise player tag on Champ and allowed him to sign elsewhere. It doesn't make sense. I know the first round picks would have been a year apart.

Hey, I didn't start the rumor. I'm just playing Wysocki a little and "stirrin' the pot". Anyway, I don't think anybody was gonna give up two first round picks for Bailey.

If the Bailey-Portis deal is one for one and the draft pick is not right then I would totally be for this trade to get picks. Basically you improve the one pick you would have gotten for Bailey if he signed elsewhere.

Heck maybe Philly gets silly and sign McCants away from us and then we get 4 first round picks.

ask yourself. are two high first rounders really worth a young stud like CP. NE has 21 and 32 overall. that last pick may as well be a second rounder. so in essence it's like giving up portis for a 1st and 2nd. we already gave up a second pick, that was only nine spots away from the number 32. why go through all the trade BS, to move up a couple spots in the second round? it just doesn't make sense. i think that its nothing but a rumor.

If this happens, this team would definitely be going in a diffrent direction.

If this happens, and I haven't found anything indicating it online... I bet we go RB at the 5th pick - Jones or Jackson... of course we could get one later in the first - I just wonder if Gibbs has his eye on one in particular if this happens

I was looking at the Patriots message board at ESPN.com, and two things jumped out at me:

1. They are not very excited at all about the prospect of acquiring Portis
2. They way they look at the situation is very similar to the way we are looking at it.

For example,

"No one is disagreeing that Portis SEEMS like an expensive addition - probably won't happen - and it might be the best thing if it doesn't.

But in BB we trust. Also, who would you rather have - Ty Law or Clinton Portis?"

That last line, replace BB (Bill Belicheck) with Joe Gibbs and Ty Law with Champ Bailey, and what do you have?

I PERSONALLY HOPE THAT THERE IS MORE TO THE BAILEY, PORTIS DEAL THAN US GIVING UP A FOUR TIME PRO BOWLER AND A SECOND ROUND PICK TO A TEAM WHOS OFFENSIVE LINE IS ALWAYS TURNING OUT 1000+ YARD BACKS. I THINK CLINTON PORTIS IS A GREAT BACK. BUT THE REDSKINS NEED MORE THAN JUST A RUNNING BACK TO BE COMPETITIVE. OUR DEFENSE WAS ONE OF THE WORST IN FOOTBALL. WE AS REDSKINS FANS ALL KNOW THAT JOE GIBBS DOESNT NEED BIG NAMES TO WIN FOOTBALL GAMES. WE NEED DRAFT PICKS TO HELP IMPROVE THIS FOOTBALL TEAM.
