The possibility of this has already been discussed. Do you have some link that confirms that this has actually taken place?

I am not a Jason LaCanfora fan, but he probably is right on this one. I would have resigned too.

Can the Redskins' search get any more screwy?
Still without a head coach, FOXSports.com has learned that Washington has fired defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
Williams is widely considered one of the best and most aggressive defensive minds in the NFL, and his unit was the strength of the Redskins' playoff run.
Still, the highest paid defensive coordinator in the NFL, is without a job despite having one year remaining on his contract.
Williams shouldn't be unemployed for long, as the St. Louis Rams have already requested permission to interview him and the Jacksonville Jaguars have shown interest as well.
Williams was thought to be the frontrunner for the Redskins' head coach job at first, but when Vinny Cerato was promoted to executive vice president, Williams' chances were destined to fade.
Washington has been calling others in the league, asking about Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, as well as gathering information on Jim Fassel. At this point, the Redskins are saying they are content to wait until after the Super Bowl to make a hire

redskins.com has reported that Greg Blache will be the new d-coordinator. That suggests that they have a head coach in mind and that he has already signed off on Zorn and Blache...

If Williams' agent is telling the truth it looks like Gibbs has no tangible roll in the head coaching search.

To be honest, Blache is not a bad coach and at least defensively we will run the same system I would imagine. The question I ask is why? why was this all needed? Thanks Snyder for setting us back again.

The meeting was pleasant and productive, Demoff said, and Williams intended to withdraw from their coaching search Tuesday. At the urging of Joe Gibs he stayed in the process. He reached out to Gibbs again Thursday and Friday and was asked to stay in, Demoff said. So he did.
In today's meeting Williams asked Snyder about media reports that he had disrespected Joe Gibbs. "Both Snyder and Cerrato agreed that that had never occurred and those reports were totally false," Demoff said. "They wished each other well in the future and the sides parted."
1) G Williams was Joe's man.
2) In leaving, GW had the COURAGE to call all the rumours spread out by Redskins Park (aka Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato) a utter and dirty LIE.
We have a mafia in charge of the Skins. Anybody who rewards one of the top coaches of its own team with lies and false allegations deserves nothing but the scorn of the fans.
Thank you Dan Snyder!
Thank you Vinny Cerrato!
I have been telling people the kind of rats you booth are for years. You just confirmed it to all of us.
Time to REALLY step down Joe. Time to REALLY step down from this stinking mess.

I am disgusted. I really can't believe it. I woke up this morning hoping Dan and Vinny would do the right thing.
I was wrong, sorry for ever believing in you two idiots. The day Sean Taylor was murdered was one of the worst days I've ever had as a Skins fan. Today has trumped that and is now the worst day ever. I blindly put faith in these fools. How are the new coaches ever to be expected to trust the owner and his nitwit sidekick.

What a screwed up mess -- our owner and GM hire our O & D coordinators before hiring a head coach. So, let's say the HC doesn't really get along with one of these guys - what happens then?
How can you hold him accountable when that person didn't pick these two guys?
Un-freaking-believable.
Oh well...

Here´s the thing: since our OC and DC have been picked by Snyder, there is no way he will have another coaching coup like the one he had with Gibbs.
Saunders and Williams where Gibbs´guys.
These two new fellows that come along will have no loyalty to the new HC. They are loyal to Snyder, not him.
So, even before hiring the new man in charge, we already have the makings of a disjolted mess of a team.
I hate to say this, but I expressed my opinion this would happen all along: Gibbs was the gel between Saunders and GW. Without Gibbs this is what happens.

The new head coach must have been identified and his staff must be ready to be put in place.
Things will pick up pace now.

Whats amusing is that there have been several discussions about who out of Williams and Saunders would get the Top Job When Joe Gibbs finished. They have both been fired. I wonder what influence Joe Gibbs had on this.
Maybe having 3 head coached was two to many and it created problems within the coaching structure and organisation as a whole. Perhaps returning to a more tradional set up with a clear chain of command will help this team.
