Redskins are interviewing Seattle Qb coach Jim Zorn for an offensive coordinator position, according to league sources. The Redskins asked premission to talk to him this week - again not the head coaching job - and flew him from the Senior Bowl in Mobile to town today, where was expected to interview at owner Daniel Snyder's house.

Zorn has developed many quarterbacks and has a strong reputation. He was an accomplished NFL QB himself, mostly with Seattle. This continues to jibe with what I have heard through this process about Al Saunders possibly being in hot water.

I am still connecting all the dots about the biug picture here and will keep you posted.

Seriously, can't do a lot worse than having a former, good QB as a QB coach (no, I'm not commenting on him as an OC).

The Redskins are reportedly interviewing Seahawks QBs coach Jim Zorn for their offensive coordinator vacancy, according.

Dan Snyder flew Zorn from Mobile to D.C. on Wednesday. Before coaching QBs in Seattle, Zorn played for the Seahawks and later coordinated Utah State's offense. He has no known ties to top head coaching candidate Jim Fassel.

When did we officially get rid of Saunders? I did not know that there was a vacancy...WTF???????

We all need to breathe. This is just a rumor and speculation. I will believe it when it is confirmed and offical

yeah...hopefully, but that is all we have been saying the past 2 weeks, like; hopefully Danny doesn't destroy the team, hopefully we will have continuity, and hopefully we won't be a 3-13 team next year...

Maybe you were right all along. This would certainly fit in with the other rumor of Fassel/Ryan....HC, DC and Zorn the potentilal OC?

Looks like Snyder doesn't trust Williams as the head guy. So if he hires a HC other than GW, GW will not be happy, and would likely be looking for a way out. Who out there better than Ryan has the credentilas to replace Williams? And if in the eyes of Snyder, Williams is expendable, Saunders certainly is.

So much for maintaining continuity....I suppose what they meant by that was that Snyder would retain ownership and he would promote Vinny.

You said it. And what was the last thing Gibbs said... that he wanted to see what he has started get "finished". Surely by that he didn't mean that the first order of business would be to fire the rest of the coaching staff.

Apparently Gibbs totally misjudged what Snyder would do in his absence.

I wish we could just show a little patience. If we fire Saunders without getting to see what his offense would have looked like in the "payoff" year 3, I'm not really going to be able to defend our team to all my jack-ass told you so friends. I had been saying that Dan had "wisened up". My badness, I'm an idiot.

maybe, just maybe, this is all just a ploy to gleen knowledge from some outsiders, and we hire GW, and AL will remain. not sure how long I can hold my breath...

I wonder if we'll give big money to keep Todd Collins after we install a different offense that he doesn't know.

I hope this doesn't piss the players off so much that they start demanding trades, holding out, etc...

umm, I have to agree and withdraw my previous comment. Starting to look like this might happen. I too have defended Danny, but if he really does this, I'm going to puke.

Jim Zorn has been the qb coach of the Seahawks since 2001. Obviously he doesn't call the plays, but here is the breakdown of how Seattle's offense has done since he got there. It's broken down by NFL rank in yards per game and points per game...


2001: 25th (yards per game), 19th (points per game)
2002: 7th, 16th
2003: 6th, 7th
2004: 8th, 12th
2005: 2nd, 1st
2006: 19th, 14th
2007: 9th, 10th

Here is where the Seattle qb's have ranked in passer rating since 2001:

2001: 28th (Hasselbeck's first year with Seattle, 3rd year as a pro)
2002: 6th
2003: 8th
2004: 17th
2005: 4th
2006: 19th
2007: 8th

Looking at Zorn and Fassel, there does appear to be a theme emerging here. Fassel is known for his work with qb's. He won an NFC East title with Danny Kannel as his qb and reached the Super Bowl with Kerry Collins. Zorn has spent the last 7 years as a qb coach and has done a good job in working with and helping develop Matt Hasselbeck. Obviously this is all speculation but if these rumors are true, it appears that Snyder and Vinny are trying to put together a staff that they think will be able to develop JC.

Actually... <sigh> ... I just heard some decent arguments on ATH in favor of this move. I just don't know what to think at this point, and I'm sure the players don't either.

What? Was Steve DeBerg not available?

How do you hold interviews for a new OC when there isn't a new head coach named? Isn't the OC hired by the head coach not the owner? This a circus, what a joke!

usually, unless your name is Jerry Jones or Dan Snyder.

After interviewing for the Redskins' offensive coordinator job on Wednesday, Seahawks QBs coach Jim Zorn is expected to meet with Seattle officials, who intend to keep him.

Zorn could reportedly be promised the Seahawks' offensive coordinator gig when coach Mike Holmgren retires after the 2008 season. It's odd that the Redskins would be intent on hiring an OC without a head coach in place.
