Redskins expect coach to be in place shortly

The Redskins reportedly expect to name a new head coach within the next two days.
It's believed that Jim Fassel, who interviewed for the job (again?) early this week, was the "mystery" candidate all along. The Redskins might lose both Gregg Williams and assistant head coach/offense Al Saunders if Fassel gets the head job, but he also may be an offensive coordinator candidate. Jan. 22 - 9:14 am et

If it is Fassel I am not renewing my tickets, someone else can shell out the thousands of dollars to The Danny because it won't be me.

I read that a lot of you don't want Fassel. I'm wondering why are you guys sooo against it.

I would like GW to be HC. But I personally don't know anything pro or con about Fassel to an opinion, if he is better or GW is better.

I know I want GW because of continuity. But would we trade continuity for better coach or vice versa?

Hmm. You need continuity that is what makes a team. However, if you keep continuity and the guy making the calls are not making the correct call, than it does you no good.

Im not saying I agree or that I want Fassel, But im just wondering why, other than continuity, do we not want Fassel? Is he known to be a bad coach?

This turns my stomach. If Fassel is the coach my 42 years of being a fan are done. I've stuck up for Snyder through thick and thin. But screwing Williams and hiring garbage to start over from scratch would be too much. I will box up everything I own from pennants to autographed helmets and send it to the Park. What a joke.

I lived in NY when Fassel was HC of the Giants. I found the team to be undisciplined and disorganized during that time. While Fassel has won a superbowl I believe GW likeability among players and continuity is far greater than Fassel's brief experience winning. After this season I believe these players will give it there all and then some playing for GW and wanting to win for him just like they did for Gibbs.

I'll take all that stuff if you don't want it.

The organization finally begins to head in the right direction providing some consistency to the young players. Why would you trash that for a retread who was never much of a coach anyway? I just don't get it. Like PatJam77 I live in Philly where it takes work to be a fan. The drive to DC, the parking at the stadium, having to pay $5 for a bottle of water on a scorching hot day require a commitment to the team. This last year I easily spent $5,000 on tickets, parking and concessions coming to the games. Why should I make that kind of investment when it is clear (if they hire Fassel) that the team has no intentions of being a winner?

I may be getting ahead of myself because who knows maybe GW will be the next HC... I just see any other person egtting hired as a pretty ridiculous action. GW will keep all the team chemistry that was created this past year. It keeps players happy and it keeps them focused on the task of winning a title. Anything else is just Snyder not learning a dang thing from the mess and the success that was the 2007 season.

I agree with most of the sediment about hiring anyone else but GW. The only HC out there that I would accept over GW is Cowher.

I can't bring myself to believe that Fassel is being considered for the HC position. That just can't be the situation.

Maybe the OC because of his past success with developing QB talent?

I don't think you can judge him by his record as OC for the Ravens because they lacked talent on the offensive side because their front office focused on defense. No matter how good you are as a coach, you still have to have talent to be successful.

I hope you're right RayNAustin. I could understand bringing him here as the OC - even if I don't really agree with it.

But I'll be disappointed if they pass up GW for Fassel. What a freaking letdown that would be.

The only problem with that argument is that the Ravens offense actually improved quite a bit after he was fired in 2006. I read a USA Today article which said that when he was after week 6 of the 2006 season, the Ravens were ranked 28th in offense. However, at the end of the season the Ravens were ranked 13th in offense. Not sure how much his firing had to to do with the offensive improvement, but it certainly doesn't help case.

What happened to being a real fan? Look I don't like Fassel anymore then you do or anybody else and I completly disagree with Snyder if he hires him but if I did live in the area to where I could have season tickets to the Redskins and I did own season tickets I sure wouldn't give them up.

If Greg Williams was going to be our head coach he would have already been named.

Unbelieveable. Your just as bad as the other guy. I would love to have season tickets, but I live all the way out in California. Again I don't like Fassel but damn don't give up on your team.

Seriously if Fassel becomes the next head coach that will be an enormous let down for the entire Redskins fan base. We go from hearing about Bill Cowher, to Gregg Williams' fourth interview, to Jim Fassel? What is this? Danny better be making a good decision on this one.

Not Jim Fassell! Please no! I suffered enough being a fan of the Utes when he was coaching in Salt-town back in the 80's. He would convert all the best defensive athletes to offensive positions and the Utes would lose like 54-49. Then he goes to the NFL and tries to reinvent himself as a defensive minded coach.

It was a fluke the year he took the Gnats to the SB.

Fassel never won a SB. They lost to the Ravens in 2000, when they made it to the game through a flukey series of playoff victories.
