Kiper on the Skins

The Washington Redskins could first use an effective pass-rusher and a No. 1 wide receiver -- Brandon Lloyd has been a bust. They like Anthony Mix, who played with QB Jason Campbell at Auburn, but he's a developmental receiver. In addition to a pass-rusher, Washington could also use a defensive tackle who can collapse the pocket and get penetration. The cornerback position could be an area of need, especially if former first-round pick Carlos Rogers starts the season on the physically unable to perform list. Also look for them to pick up a versatile offensive lineman, someone who could play either center or guard. Safety isn't a pressing need, but an area they could address. LaRon Landry played free safety but Washington would like to move him back to strong safety, and Reed Doughty held his own late in the season at strong safety.

This does not sound like Kiper - he must have been spending some time here - there is no one connected to the Washington media that could have given him this information, they haven't got a clue who we need - he's obviously been spying on us

Sounds like what everyone else has been saying. I have seen some posts on THN that stated the same thing.

I say let go of Griffin and Springs.Springs might of had a good season but hes old, injury prone. And we have Rogers and Smoot right now.We can take a 1st round prospect CB in the second round .But I like Springs so I would actually keep him.
But as for Griffin let him go.He hasn't been the pass rusher since 04-05(in 05 he didnt even pass rush enough). And hes old now and is injury prone. What I would do is what Kiper wants. And if we end up enough cap room to sign to big time guys than I would go with Hanesworth.Hes the 4th best DT out there and can pressure them, hes a huge difference maker.Montgomry has become a run stopper machine and well only get better. If we get Haynes and along with our first round DE than our D will be unstoppable.
Haynesoworth
As for a WR well I say draft or trade up to get this stud WR from Michigan.

Yeah I would try to keep Springs if we can. He actually played more games then Rogers and Smoot this year and thats with his father in a coma. The way teams are passing these days we need him besides I think he's still top 10 cornerback in the league. This is all of course if he is willing to restructure his contract.

I'm typing very lowly, so, hopefully, you can keep up.
We DO NOT have Rogers until he comes off the PUP list. The injury he suffered
can take a full 12-20 months to fully recover from, especially for a corner. That means, we only have Smoot and Springs. Get it?

WOW I didn't know what so what was all that for?.Than if its like that than we should draft a CB in the second or third round.

The Washington Redskins could first use an effective pass-rusher and a No. 1 wide receiver
...so he thinks the Redskins desperately need to draft
Art Monk.
I'd agree.
By the way, this time of year, every story has an
Art Monk angle.

I agree, but an Art Monk is hard to find. And draftng a WR in the first round is the biggest crap shoot in football (just ask Matt Millen! - how did that can't miss WR work out for him this year, or the year before, or the year before, or...)
I want a stud OG or stud DL w/our first pick. But if a top flight CB drops, then snag him!

When we need a CB and we need D-linemen how can getting rid of our best D-Lineman and our best corner be a good idea?

Posting a piture of a guy stomping on the head of an oposing player really does not warm me up to the idea of signing him.

Because,it would allow us to aquire younger better players.
FYI......Trufunt over Springs
Hanesworth over Griffin.
Get my point?.

I'm not quite sure how to answer that one.

In case you typed too quickly for them, I'll repeat the the thought. We only have two CB's-- we don't know what will happen with Rogers even if he does heal. Smoot has spunk but he's no great CB, barely a starter. We not only have to hold on to Springs, we have to pray Carlos both heals and gets better. If we go into the season with Smoot as our top CB, we are toast.
We need a DT, a DE, and an OT of real quality. We can't replace Springs.

.......Very interesting .....but firmly disagree about Smoot not playing good or barly being a starter.Infact Smoot, has become a pretty good covering guy and his tackling has improved alot better than back than.
As for Springs...well if Rogers is out than I would strongly agree in keeping Springs BUT!!!!!!.I believe we should trade our next year 1st round pick to simply move up....and acquire a late 1st rounder and acquire.
Brandon Flowers CB(Virginia Tech) 5'10 .
Hardest hitting CB Ive seen since D.Green.

Last time I checked, DG wasn't a hitter, he was a burner.

Yeah, you're all for signing the flashy, big-name free agent, over keeping the guys you know.
That worked really well for the pre-Gibbs Snyder Era, didn't it?

LOL! I've seen a lot of adjectives used to describe DG... hard hitting was never one of them...!

My undying memory of a DG tackle was him hanging onto Barry Sander's foot in the 1991 playoffs. Hanging on for dear life until help arrived.
Darrell Green is likely my favorite player of all time, but the guy was not a hitter. At all.

I agree with Kiper....We should look at Calais Campbell (Miami) 6-8/280lbs DE or Derek Harvey 6-4/262 (Florida) George Selvie (South Florida) 6-4/245lbs.
Campbell is a physical beast....Selvie has an unreal motor....and Harvey is actually from Greenbelt Maryland.
We should look for s wide reciever with our second pick....
And people saying we don't need Springs? LOL
Darrell Green a hard hitter? LMFAO

If I were the non-existent GM of the Skins, I would have 2 huge priorities in Free Agency:
1) Alan Faneca ( Pete Kendall is a good LG, however, he is only under a 2 year contract, and he is 34 years old. He could extend his shelf life and also serve as a valuable backup on our O-line)
2) Jared Allen ( He has been a bruising, high motor pass rusher, who at 6-6 and 270 lbs has been imposing against the run. I like the way he plays the game, and hopefully the Skins do too).
To round out the free agent period, I would opt for a Defensive Back such as Randal Gay.
In the Draft, I would target potential impact players in the first round such as:
1) Kenny Phillips - S (Miami)
2) James Hardy - WR (Indiana)
3)Colais Campbel - DE (Miami)
4) Antoine Cason - CB (Arizona)
5) Malcolm Kelly -WR (Oklahoma)
If any of these players are available at 21, I would be pleased with selecting them.
