Campbell has shown flashes of what may be. That being said Campbell has still not impressed me. Campbell is no doubt the future. I am anxious to see how Campbell does next year. He should have one full year plus under his belt.
For now, I want Collins at the helm. He has earned it. Bottom line is we are winning with Todd Collins.
Interesting thing is what if we make it to the SuperBowl with Collins? By then Campbell should be fully recovered. What a dilemma?

Not really (and not just because it's not a "dilemma"), see the Jay Schroeder and Doug Williams situation in '88 for reference on how Joe will play this one.

I have faith in what Joe will do. I will back whatever descision Joe makes at that point.
I have a funny feeling if this team makes it. This team may upset the other contenders.
Consider how close the Green Bay and Dallas game was. Hmm... This is turning out to be a very interesting season.

I think it would be more constructive to look at our games against those two teams than the one they played against each other.

Also worth remembering that Campbell played quite well in both games, he outplayed Favre and threw for more yardage than Romo

There is no question what Gibbs will do if we continue winning -- he'll play Collins and save Campbell for later.
A slightly different twist here -- what would Gibbs do if we get into the playoffs and Collins gets hurt and Campbell isn't really ready to play, that is, he's active but not fully healed -- does Gibbs put in Brunell?
I've been one of those guys who has ripped Brunell when he was our starter but I have to say -- I've seen him on the sidelines since Collins came in and I've felt a sense of relief that he's our 3rd stringer, not Hollenbach, Casey "Whatever his name was"., Gib whatever his name was", etc...

Nice and balanced "shameless" self-promotion.
I only wish to seat back a bit and reflect:
Who would have thought ???!!!
If anybody had been given a script of the greatest underdogs in many movies, take Cinderella Man or Sea biscuit as examples, we would have thought those scripts FAR MORE BELIEVABLE than the story of an INJURY and TRAGEDY plagued team which could not be facing the abyss in starkest terms to come out swinging with courage and character against the HIGHEST RATIONAL ODDS against.
None of us, absolutely NONE would have thought the season would give us a LESSON in relation to the heart and mind of this team.
If we win on Sunday, I do not know whether I will start jumping and screaming (a given) or doing that and crying with emotion too. Seriously.

Sean Taylor had a lot to do with Favre's miserable performance that day.

How does that detract from how well JC played?
The point is that JC has the potential, he's shown the flashes it's just all about CONSISTENCY.
To get consistency we need a few things...
1. Consistency in the coaching staff. IF Gibbs stays great. If he leaves don't blow everything up.
2. Time. Collins sucked when he was young, he's been around for 9+ years. Give Jason time.
3. Support.

Nice article with much evident self belief. Not all fans agree with every one of your statements and that is alright as long as it is understood that everyone is entitled to their opinions and honor those of others. Still, nice view off the situation.
1) Agree.
2) Agreed that 3 game is a rather small statistical snapshot but Collins has a distinct advantage in being intimitely familiar with Saunders offensive scheme. That familiarity has allowed a more balanced offense making Collins the better quarterback for now.
3) I have never been a Campbell supporter. I truely do not believe that he will be the end all as a quarterback. There have been countless primo quarterbacks with all of the tools and intelligence that just do not make it in the NFL for many unexplainable reasons. I think Campbell will be one of them.
4) A reasonable explanation to the number of dropped passes is the Collins throws a more catchable ball and that Collins quicker release voids much of the defenses rush.
5) Agree with most of this item, however in the NFL, the standard is wins and so far Campbell's tendency to make major critical mistakes at critical times, i.e. the interceptions and fumbles, clouds his other attributes.
6) Agreed, but let there be a truely open competiton for the quarterback position next year. Let the better quarterback for the situation win, be it Campbell, Collins, Brunell or whoever may be there.
The Redskins as a team have had a very adverse year and handle a lot of emotional trauma. I give them credit equivalent to winning the Super Bowl for all that the team has had to over come this year and for being one win away from the play-offs.

I think the point was, in the comparison of Favre to JC, ST had a significant impact on Favre's day, hence allowing JC to outplay Favre. Whether it's relavent or not is another discussion

No disrespect to you but thats the same narrow minded thinking that has screwed us in the past. This is a new era and that win now BS is done with. We need a QB of the future, not a quick fix. We need a Peyton, Brady, Brett, someone who can be around for years. We will NEVER know what Jason is capable of if we don't play him.
Benching him for Todd is going to kill his esteem and set him back. He's the man, he's the guy we're betting on and it'll work out.
We can't keep flip flopping. Always new coaches, new players, new schemes... Screw that, we need consistency.
And IF ANYTHING IS NEW?!?! It needs to be new jumbotrons or a new stadium and thats it.

CLL, I agree with the premise of your post, that we should probably return to Campbell at the onset of OTA's... but, this:
Benching him for Todd is going to kill his esteem and set him back.
If his ego is so fragile that a change in starting status destroys his self-esteem, then it's already time to start looking elsewhere.
A QB that you can build around believes he is the best, no matter who is starting at the time. He just bides his time, and waits to prove it. Benching him should just prove motivating. Personally, I think that Campbell will be ready to kick butt once his knee allows it, whether Collins continues to start, or not.

Having an open competition is narrow minded? Horse hockey...And if Campbell is "the man" but loses his self esteem and loses what he has learned if he doesn't start next year, then he doesn't belong here...yeah, let's just give JC the job outright - so typical of the new "era"...

It doesn't, but it does impact his having outplayed Favre. I wasn't trying to take anything away from Campbell, I was just pointing out that Sean had a big impact on how closely fought that game was. Campbell played well enough, the WRs just could not seem to hang onto the ball, particularly Moss.

I seem to remember you saying the same things about Patrick Ramsey being the future when he first got here. He was the future, had a cannon arms, etc. He is an example of what I meant. He had all that potential but has yet to become a starting quarterback. Maybe he will one day.
Let's face it in todays NFL, new coaches, new players each year is the norm. It isn't right (I agree with you whole-heartedly there) as the Patriots, Steelers and Colts have demonstrated, but it is the way of life now. I am not enthralled with Gibbs2 but would respect an extension for him because it would help in the stability of the team. Players move to new teams for more money, coaches have about 3 years (on an average) to produce a contender, if not, they are gone or being slammed by the fans and the media. As an example, Turner and Couglin are being listed as "in the hot seat" by the media. Both of their teams are going to the play-offs. Shottenheimer got fired after going to the play-offs. You are right when you say that the win-now attitude isn't right. George Allen was the only NFL coach I can remember that could make the win-now concept work.
My attitude is not narrow-minded. If the best player is not playing, then the team will not be the best. If Campbell is so fragile as to get his feeling hurt over loosing an open competition then he does not have enough character to make it in the NFL and never will. You need to remember that these guys have spent most of their lives completing for playing time. They understand it and accept it as being part of the game. I truly do not think Campbell is so shallow as to have an emotional breakdown because someone beats him out for a position. If Betts can play better than Portis, Yoder better than

ey, Collins better than Campbell, (I am not saying that they are either.) then Betts, Yoder and Collins should be playing.
You field your best team, whether it is football or just life.

Agree with everything. Good article as I was the one who started the first thread. I'm amazed at how many people think Collins is a long term solution. This year yes, next year...no way.
The only thing I don't agree with is #4. In my opinion, JC has been sacked more because he holds onto the ball too long. That can be fixed though. Once he knows the offense better, his reads will move faster and he'll be able to get to the third or fourth option like Collins has in these four games. THAT is the difference. Give him some time to learn.
