Unfairly banned fan speaks out

Dear "Hogs" fans/members,
I have found a new home I hope here at the hogs.net. Apparently, I have been banned for life from Extremeskins.com for......well. I'm not quite sure. Apparently, some of my replies to posts were too short and considered spam. "Like I care about boosting my thread count for a cooler avatar. OK......anyways, I am somewhat unoffically bitching about the way I was treated there. Just wondering if anyone here has experienced the same BS I did and for a very lame reason. I appreciate rules etc......I run several websites and messageboards myself so I'm aware of all of the BS that can go one. I'm 43 yrs old, don't bother anyone, love the Skins....been a fan for 33 years and get banned from the official messageboard for.......well.....they didn't bother telling me why.
I'm just guessing. I like this forum.....smaller, and more personel.....I hope.......Hail To The Skins!

Welcome, you found a better place here! I would tell you it's better than that other sight they call "official" but I never bothered to post there so I wouldn't know. This is home for me & I'm sure you'll feel the same in a short time, just follow the simple rules & you won't have a problem!

Hey man welcome. I don't know why a Redskins fan site would ban a Redskins fan. Anyways Glad to have you on board.

Sorry that you seem to have had an unjust experience at ES.

Rules are rules, but around here... if you break a rule, we let you know privately (unless you don't answer your private messages). We also generally give people more than one warning before we even think about anything more drastic (like a week long suspension or banishment).

Not to defend ES in any way, but it has to be an absolute nightmare running a board so freakin' huge. I spend 20-30 minutes EVERY day pruning spammer accounts etc.... it gets REALLY tiresome. I can't even imagine what their administrative duties are like.

I hope with it being the 'official' board, that one or two people are earning a pay check for their time and efforts, but I really don't know. I do think it's quite comical that they still try to assert that ES is an 'individual entity' from Redskins.com. I figure once the team BUYS the board, it's an 'official' board and not a 'fan site' any longer.

You're definitely not the first person to come here and say how unhappy you are about your treatment at ES. Part of the problem at ES appears to be a lack of methodology. Most of our complaints from 'cast-offs' is that they have no idea WHY they were banned, and sometimes it's even the first 'action' taken by the moderators. That seems unfair and it also seems to leave patrons of the board at the absolute mercy of the MOOD of a perticular moderator.

Personally, I'm always REALLY happy to gain new members that are older than a teenager and long-time fans - I look forward to your contributions - short sentences or long... so welcome SkinsFan63. :-)

Oh and for jeremyroyce's comment about never banning a Redskin fan from a Redskin site - that's RIDICULOUS. The rules are the same for EVERYBODY - at least they should be in my opinion. EVERYONE has the right to post here unless they abuse their privileges in doing so. If you don't respect the house and it's rules, who you cheer for is of no consequence to me, we have to maintain order by being consistent in our application of the rules. IMO, that's the only way to be fair. We do try to give people the benefit of the doubt, and recognize that sometimes emotions take over - but that's why as moderators we generally warn - warn - sanction - suspend - ban. If you reach the end of that chain, you've EARNED the right not to post here anymore - Redskin fan or not.

So, I would like to know why you dragged me into your comment? Just from reading from your comment this guy is not the only guy that has been banned from this site and is not aware of why he was banned. There is nothing wrong with what I said as long as this guy didn't do anything wrong.

Sorry that you seem to have had an unjust experience at ES.

I would like to ask you why you dragged me into your comment and said that what I said was RIDICULOUS? From what he was saying was that he didn't know what he did and he was banned unfairly. That being said him being a Redskins fan and being on a Redskins fans site I couldn't understand why he would be banned. But in your comment it shows that he is not the only person to be banned from that site that is now aware of why they are banned. So, why did you even mention my name?

Dude, I don't need you to get smart with me. I read your original comment and yet you have failed to answer my question. I NEVER said anything about NEVER banning a Redskins fan from a Redskins Fans website. If you look at my first two comments you will see that I was a little baffled as to why he was banned and that he was a Redskins fan on a Redskins fans website. I'm not saying that a Redskins fan should never be banned from a Redskins Fans website I NEVER said that. I understand that there are rules on any board no matter what team your a fan of but from what he was saying I didn't understand why he was being from that site, he didn't understand it, and there are others that don't either. I don't want to argue with you and its not a matter of who is right and who is wrong all I wanted to know is why bring me into this because I made a comment about something and you think its RIDICULOUS. Well, thats your opinion, and I respect your opinion, but please don't make me look bad because you disagree with me. Thats all I ask.

What he said was he was banned and didn't know why. It might be ridiculous to not give a warning for a infraction. But some people will willing break the rules and be banned with out warning. In the end it will come down to what rule the member broke and how the Admin/Mods decide to deal with it. What team the site supports or is supported by the member will not be a factor.

In other words...

I don't know why a Redskins fan site would ban a Redskins fan. Anyways Glad to have you on board.

...is a ridiculous statemen.

I took that to mean that there was no possible justifiable reason for banning any Redskin fan from any Redskin fan site. That's ridiculous.

Rules are rules, and as the administrator of this site, I try to make sure that those rules are enforced the same for everybody. Being a Redskin fan doesn't preclude you from following those rules. That's really all I was saying.

I tried to join ES, just so I could ask Bram and Larry questions on Redskins radio, but they wouldn't let me because I was using a "free" e-mail account.

Never mind that I'm using that very same e-mail account here, or that I've had that same e-mail account for 15 years.

It sounds to me like the mods at that site are nowhere near as effective as the ones for this one.

I have been really impressed with how well this site is run.

The moderators here keep keep the board pretty clean by combining duplicate topics into one existing thread. They seem to eliminate the troublemakers in what appears to be as fair a method as possible. Some may disagree, but they've always been fair to me.

I really like the idea of a specific "Smack" forum where you can choose to speak your mind, on whatever, whomever, however you want to.

If you want to be a jerk, and want to pick a fight, you have a place you can go that other people can avoid you if they so choose.

Sure, I'm sucking up to the mods here a bit, but then again, I think we shouldd all pick a cheek and pucker up for them for not charging us to join this site.

It's a bummer that you got banned from ES.

I don't understand, though. Even though ES is not a board that I ever go to...I think I've been on it once a couple years ago, but I find it really difficult to believe that a website, any website, would arbitrarily ban an upstanding member without cause, whether they give a reason or not.

I think members of THN take it for granted that this website is unique in its format, administration, diversity, etc... The ability to post opposing viewpoints, a smack forum, and other diverse modules that are seperate and apart from "Redskins" fans topics is what makes this site such high quality, and perhaps something that we collectively take for granted.

That being said, I'm sure ES is a website that appreciates freedom of opinion and opposing viewpoints, but to simply ban someone for no reason? Perhaps you could shed some light on it, and it might explain the "why" you got banned? What kind of conversations, posts, im's, messages, etc... did you participate in immediately prior to being banned? Did you violate any rules, written or unwritten, that might upset the mods? Was there a politically charged debate that you participated in? Sometimes we dont' appreciate just how good THN is in allowing such emotional topics to be discussed in a forum of appreciation for opposing viewpoints and the allowing of such politically charged debates in the proper forum, of course.

But, what was the one of your last few posts? Did you get angry in a forum that doesn't allow such expressed anger, or perhaps the terminology you used to express such anger?

I'm perplexed, as much as I dislike ES, I just don't see them arbitrarily banning someone for no reason whatsoever. I can't see them saying to themselves "hmmm, I think I'll ban this person". So, without defending them, I'm sure there must have been SOME reason why they banned you.

In any event, perhaps it was a blessing in disguise, you've come to the right place!!

ES sucks man. I got banned for saying to a post that questioned why a mod always had B&G colored glasses on. I said as a team owned site its well proven mods get perks and they may not want to bite the hand that feeds them. Got banned for 90 freaking days. Thats the whole season. Site is a joke. The mods have ego issues and they sway the message all the time. This one is so much better and the mods dont seem to feel the need to go around letting everyone know how powerful they are and how they can ban you if they dont like what you say. They have 18 rules. no. 18 is the best. It says you cant disagree with a mod. Lame. Thsi site is great.
