Our fans are pathetic...what do you think????

Maybe someone can help me on this one...

I flew in from Chicago to see the Skins beat the Bears on Thursday. Awesome for me being a skins fan, because of the bragging rights I have over my co-workers and friends.

The one negative thing I took away was our fans at the game. We had several very important defensive situations (like the goal line stand starting on the 1), several key third down's and I look around and I'm the only one making noise. In fact I'm the only one standing up, and the only one waiving a towel. I had two idiots behind me complaining that they couldn't see the game because of my standing. Watch the game at home if you're going to sit on your hands.

Not to mention the stands weren't even filled. Pathetic I say.

We have 90 thousand seats in that place and we're just as loud as any 60 thousand seat stadium in the league. This place could be a force. It's probably why our record is 4-3 at home.

Could it be because DC isn't the sports town that I'm used to in Chicago? It's embarasing to tell you the truth. Does this happen every game???

No chief, it is not like that. I was a Thursday game and we had lost four in a row. I am not going to apologise for many "fans" because I do not think that many who go to FedEx really are Redskins fans. But I have been to a few games when the crowds have been great.

I had the same experience at my last game. Personally, I think RFK was a much better place to see a game, and provided a bigger home-field advantage, even with 40,000 less fans.

Dont compare does bears fans to our skins fans.Alot of times the fans waste there breath by 1 chant and can't talk for a while. So alot of times there stick with clapping or if enough saved breath still can cheer.

Why bother? I agree with the sentiment about the fans at FedEx, I find that annoying, I've gone to several games there and I can remember a small handful of those where the fans made a concerted effort to stay loud. I've spent far too much time yelling "come on folks, it's a football game, we're on defense, you're supposed to get loud" and getting a tepid response.

I can't compare Fedex to anywhere else but I think they suck. But they might be par for the course.

i'd like to give a perspective from a season ticket holder. i've seen these threads before and quite frankly, from my seats, i have never agreed with most of the sentiments that were expressed.

this year, however, i have seen more of what has been described......little cheering, people less enthused.

this does not influence my activity, but you can sense it. when the regulars are there, it seems to be more lively.

hopefully, the skins can improve all our attitudes.

Many, many true fans no longer go to games -- I'm one of them. I can't escape the fraudulent experience that is forced upon me by those who think they know what I want.

The music, the explosions, the 'coaching' from the insanely obnoxious P.A. guy .... no thank you.

My way of being supportive and being there to watch a football game has, IMO, been made obsolete by the unnecessary need to entertain me.

I don't think the W's and L's have anything to do with the attitude of those who attend. Seems as though it's below the high-brows who get hold of these tickets to stand up.

I will say that my seats were behind the redskins bench, and the fans in my area were older. It was an older gentleman in his 70's who asked me to sit down so he could see the game. Still I was a little bewildered by the experience. I've been to FedEx several times, and it never got as raucous as any game at RFK.

It's pathetic.

Fans that are at the game are pathetic!

I call out everyone that just posted and accepts this as the norm. I'm embarrased to be a skins fan with the attitude you display.

We're never going to in with fans like this.

Every winning team wins at home, and mostly due to the fans.

Does anyone on this site go to the games? You should be ashamed

The Bears game was my first chance to see the Gibbskins live, and I was ashamed by the turnout and ashamed of the people sitting around me. It was the first time in 25 years of being a fan that I felt let down by the rest of the fan base. I'm used to it from the team, but not from other fans.

In fact, I had two scrawny fellows sitting behind me threaten to 'sit me down' because I stood and obstructed their view. The failed to follow through, but the notion that ANYONE would sit while the defense is on the field makes me want to vomit.

The Redskins have been a sub-par team for a decade and a half. In most cities that would mean empty seats and bags on heads.

Not in DC. Fans still pack the stadium. Sport Skins gear. And when the Skins are playing well the fan's fervor grows.

Plus you don't have to be a fan to go to a game. I go to Atlanta sporting events all the time just for the fun of going to an event. And believe me, I don't root for the Falcons, but I enjoy the game.

Bottom-line. When the Skins return to winning and dominating ways, and they will, the passion will be off the chart.

I generally agree with this. I am not impressed by the fans who show up to FedEx, and have been angry at what I've seen / what I've heard reported about their behavior. However, I also know that there are still people like the THN crowd that faithfully attend games. The few remain.

At some point, a lack of fanatical behavior can be a problem at the top. Dan Snyder couldn't do any worse at looking like he actually cares about the fans. I'm all for his freedom to run the Redskins the way that he wants, but I despise the atmosphere that he fosters when it's simply obvious that he wants to get as much money as possible while handing out as few services as possible.

The fact that the Skins play in an ugly concrete bowl, the fact that he won't give the stadium a decent big-screen, and the comparison of FedEx field's prices on everything to other NFL stadiums makes it clear to me that Snyder is not running this team in a way that will please the Redskins faithful. He's playing to other interests, which is a shame. That will work for a while, and get him lots of money, but it does damage to the franchise in other ways.

Fairweather Fans, thats all I can say. Anyone can be a fan in good times, it's when things arn't going well that the REAL fans stand up. Yes we have had some bad luck and poor play, and poor decisions from Coachs & Management, but this is our team they are out there laying it on the line each week, why can't we. We are still alive (a heartbeat only) for a playoff birth, last year we were reduced to spoilers by week 11. I'm still behind you guys, "play hard". 2005 we were 5 & 6 and won out.....

 you were definitely NOT in our section. I still cannot talk at all from screaming the whole night. We only SAT DOWN at half time...geeze..sorry you were in a rotten section.

Well, I can tell you that Redeemed and I were yelling quite vigorously at the Bears game....until we decided to take a stroll through the club section where tons and tons of people were sitting on couches inside watching the game on TV.

I'm not starting an anti-club thread here, but how can the team hear you cheering from your club seats on the inside?!?!?!

I think when we are pointing one finger at "our fans" there are three fingers pointing at ourselves. The ironic thing here, at least to me, is that the pointing finger is also pointing to ourselves because "our fans" does include those doing the pointing.

I suppose I could spin this by saying that since I am unable to attend home games at Fed Ex myself, I can therefore exclude myself from "our fans" in the context of many of the posts.

Actually, no I can't. The fact, not to be confused with truth, is that every team has more than its fair share of "fair weather" fans. If anyone recalls the Patriots before their recent success or perhaps has noticed at least one person in their daily work who seems to have different NFL gear every year. You know the type. The one who swears up and down they have been a fan of XYZ team since Christ was a corporal, although last season they were a fan of ABC, and the season before they were a fan of WHO?

From my perspective, which may very well be through blinders, attempting to compare levels of "fandom" by length of time, amount of team paraphernalia, number of games attended and other such factors is beyond ridiculous.

Football owners only care about money. Not exactly a revelation. Fans only care about winning. Again, not a revelation. I only care that the Redskins continue to exist, because without them I will have no NFL team to root for. I could quite frankly not care less about how much or little of a fan anyone else is.

My 2 cents

I probably wasn't in your section, but I was at the game and saw the stadium half full, and had a pretty good view of how many people were sitting during crucial times. So I take it from your response that this is normal. That's what I call pathetic. Where are the 90 thousand towels that were handed out at the bills game? Since I was not at the Bills game, I had to order mine and they haven't come yet. I had to use the Marriot wash cloth as a replacement.

I think we're as much to blame in this than the team. They feed off our energy.

Even last week vs the Bills the announcers mentioned how quiet the fans were in the fouth quarter. I blame that game on the fans. Not the playcalling, not the death of ST, not the players, but us (or anyone at the game). How can we have so much emotion and not come away with a win. A must win game. The fans added nothing. Pathetic I say. If you were at that game you should be ashamed. And I bet it's the same people on here that are calling for Gibbs head that were at that game, sitting on there hands and being overly negative.

First off, there is NO playoff team in the league that is not filling the stadium. We are still very much alive in the playoffs, and we can't even fill the stadium on a Thursday night.

Secondly, so what you're saying is as fans, we should just sit back and wait for our team to return to our winning ways before providing a home field advantage? Does that make any sense? That sounds like a Detroit or Arizona fans mentality. That's crap.

Thursdays game was my first at Fedex. (Last game was 1991 at RFK vs the Browns) I was in the club section and I was shocked at how many empty seats there were in my section. Then I walked inside to use the restroom and buy a drink and I found everyone!

I, too, was asked several times to sit down because the poor fans behind me couldn't see. Actually, they didn't say anything to me, but were whining to my wife. Finally, we took some empty seats in the back of the section and everything worked out.

Personally, I had an amazingly fun time at that game. But, I do agree that all fans at the games could do more to create that "home field advantage." It wasn't as loud as it could be.

Of course, I've gone 16 years between attending a home game so...
