Hey, does anyone know if we are going to be eligible for one of these picks due to the loss of Derrick Dockery...

Dockery was an unrestricted free agent. As far as I remember, he was not named Franchise Player. The Transition Player tag does not include draft pick compensation so I think the Redskins simply failed to match Buffalo's offer and let Dockery go.

yeah but im talking about the picks the league dishes out every year due to the loss of major free agents...

I believe that we will. But, I'm not sure what round....likely a 5th rounder.

thats good then that its based on how players perform this season, we should be a lock to get one of those picks!

The problem is it based on a net loss of talent. Since we usually also get a lot of free agents we don't get compensatory picks. This year we loss Dock, but also picked up Fletcher. So, now that I think about it we aren't likely to get any picks, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got one low rounder.

The NFL adds non-compensatory picks if fewer than 32 comp picks are awarded. The non-compensatory picks are given, in order, to the teams that would be drafting if there were an eighth round.

What has me confused is wouldn't the result be the same if they simply added another round to the existing draft without going through the compensatory / non-compensatory pick "formula"? Maybe the 7th / 8th round draft order would change slightly but, in reality, how many 7th or 8th round draft selections actually make the team, much less become starters? I'm certain there is an expert somewhere on this board who can explain this better than I can guess at it. At least I hope so.

I think I will wait till the off season to to worry about this.

I didn't mean for one second that you had to delete tham, and the CBA info that you linked to DID still define transiton and franchise designations, as well as the FA categories.

I was just trying to impress upon you that you gave a very finite answer to a guy and in my opinion, inadvertently led him down the wrong track... that's all... simply putting the words, "I think" before it all would have definitely sufficed. Then even if you're incorrect, you haven't given the false sense of security that what you were saying was a cold, hard fact.

As I said, the picks are based on player's contributions THIS SEASON and aren't announced until mid-March to early April.

The only reason for such a finite answer was that I was positive I was answering the question that was asked. When you pointed out that I was answering a question which was never asked, I thought it better to delete the post, so as not to confuse any other members.

On a side note, people like me who think they know everything really P.O. people like you, who do, in fact know everything.
