I think Vinny and Snyder will be cautious at this position.
Kearse is injury prone, so I hope the Skins WALK if negotiations get out of control.

Other options are
Grant Wistrom - STL

Tony Brackens - JAX
http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/3137

Adalius Thomas - BAL

Reggie Hayward - DEN (should be thrown in the Portis trade)
http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235077

Eric Hicks - KAN

I say go with Kearse, Wistrom, Thomas, in that order.
Do you think Upshaw can be the full time starter?
I don't.

If you think Kearse is injury prone, don't even think about signing Brackens. He has been injured very often the past several years. He is also getting up there in age a little bit.

Tony Brackens is the exact kind of guy the Redskins don't need to sign. I am a Grant Wistrom fan, and I also wouldn't mind Thomas or Hayward, based simply on their age.

However, I still want Jevon Kearse...

wistrom's photo on his player page is one of the funniest things i've ever seen!

I don't know who the Redskins are going to sign, but I'm a little concerned about the reports that they're talking to Phillip Daniels of the Bears. If anyone thinks he's the answer to the Redskins' anemic pass rush, they're badly mistaken. Five years ago maybe, but not now.

As for Kearse, I heard a Nashville reporter on the radio this morning speculating he'd be looking for a signing bonus in the $12- to $15-million range. I can't imagine how the Redskins could swallow something like that.

Shoot man, I'd take Phil Daniels, he won't be too expensive and he ought to be very effective. He's ONLY 30, he's got a few more years left

You're right. That is remarkable. Must be a real P.I.A to put a helmet on.

First of all - we could sign Kearse to a long enough contract to spread the cap hit of that bonus out over time.

I don't want Daniels considering that DE's depend on speed and we just got rid of a DE who waited too long to get out of the game.

Get young studs who can motor - I know Wistrom isn't the youngest, but he has done consistently well at his job. Combine him with Washington and Coleman in the middle - could be effective :)

A better option would be...Adewale Ogunleye.

http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/188505

He was injured his senior year at Indiana and would have been a first day draft pick.

It's taken a couple of years to get back to top form...but he is a tremendous LDE.

He has a great motor and never quits. He has surprising power and drives the blocker into the QB. Excellent vision and reach...is able to reach around the blocker and grab the QB or knock the ball away.

He has royalty in his blood. The son of a King from an African country. Prince Ogunleye.

With 15 sacks...this was his first year as a probowler. There will be many more.

He would be an excellent addition to the Gibskins.

two things that bother me - that he is a restricted free agent and we ain't agonna give up that first pick if I have to go and hit Cerrato with his racquetball racquet...

Second - too many articles mention that his stats have been bolstered by Taylor on the other side drawing a lot of doubles... it makes me wonder if he won't get shut down now that he isn't in stealth mode...

My opinion only :)

daniels is a regan upshaw clone, good run stopper, but no pass rush ability, unless he happens to trip and fall on the QB. we've already got one RU, why do we need two? i promise you, this is BS, there's no way we'd pursue this guy with some of the other names on the market....

Well, I understand your reluctance to give up a first round pick. OGUNLEYE would have an impact right away.

As far as benefiting from JT...our other DE's that started on the Left never had anywhere near the success that OGUN is having. And last year was his first year of starting. When he first started mounting up the sacks...us Dolphin fans thought the same thing.

But, there were many games this year where he consistantly outplayed Jason Taylor. JT didn't seem to get up to speed till the end of the season. Partly because we play against so many WEST COAST offenses. They take a 3 step drop and throw the ball. It's incredible that OGUN got as many sacks that he did. He had a superior game against Dallas grabbing two QB sacks.

I've seen him go right through a double team and yank down the QB.

I am not doubting you - I just haven't really watched the kid play that much. I would have to take your word (and the others on here) that he is all that ;)

I still don't want to give up a #5 pick for a player though - maybe trade down and get a bunch of picks...

You know - it looks like the Bears switched defenses two years ago and started dropping Daniels into coverage. His sacks declined rapidly at the same time.

Check it out here:
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_NFL_career.asp?sport=NFL&id=3634

His first three years had him getting to the QB 24 times... but the last two years he only had 7.5 - just seems kinda strange that a Bears coach would pursue a lagger now doesn't it?

Here is a blurb about Coleman from the Raiders:

Raiders five-year veteran defensive tackle Rod Coleman has negated the final two years of his contract and will become a free agent.
Coleman has led the Raiders in sacks the last two seasons from the defensive tackle position- an impressive feat. He is in his prime and will be a highly sought out after in the free agent market.

Interesting huh? This is one I think we may go after to team with Washington and Kearse/Wistrom... I think we might go to Wistrom to avoid injury issues... kinda going back and forth on my feelings on this

I agree with PhinstiGator, that guy was awesome last year. I had him on my fantasy team last year and he got a lot of points for me. Since that is how Snyderatto picks players I bet he's on the list at least
