Don't look now but the Redskins defense is now ranked #3. Check it out
here.
Our offense is ranked #12 right now but that's not too bad considering we haven't put up many points in the first few games. Our offense is only gonna get better.

Dam lol you beat me from making this topic. But are D is ranked # 3 so far and if we beat the Packs and only let them have less than 10 than well be probably ranked 2nd or even 1st.But are O well get better and all we need is a better rushing game and passing.

The only stat that matters is the Win-Loss record. Proof of that was on full display in Buffalo this week. All the other stats are so ESPN and SI have something to fill airtime with.

Some stats are more interesting than others. I like the Yards per Game average (YPG) but I am also very impressed by the numbet of Points allowed either total (PTS) or points per game (PTS/G). Look at Pitt, Jacksonville and New England.
The defensive stats also show a dismal disproportion of success between the AFC and the NFC among the top 10 teams.

The reason for the discrepancy in stats between the AFC and the NFC is that the NFC has a huge number of .500 caliber teams. The AFC has more feast or famine teams. The best of the AFC is at the top of the league. The worst of the AFC is at the bottom of the league. The NFC pretty much fills the middle.

IRREGARDLESS, it still looks good on paper. I'm sure it helps the morale of the team for them to see they're getting their props....
Edit: stupid typos...

Last year Chicago finished with the 5th ranked D and the 15th ranked O and they went to the SuperBowl. We are currently ranked higher in both so with our current team we should have enough on both sides of the ball to be near the top of the standings by the end of the season.

guys lets go overboard here..its week 5...not week 12.......we have multiple hurdles coming in the next 3 weeks....
BRETT favre
Kurt Warner
Tom Brady
Lets see how the next 3 weeks shape up ...then I will tell you if were top defense.
Are we improved? no doubt about it
do we still have issues? replay second half of giant game
lets not get ahead ourselves....Rankings are about as important as the guys that run across FEDEX with the REDSKIN flags
WINS BABY WINS----nothing more nothing less

I tell you this that if we shut down the Packs O than well be ranked #1 in the D and I see us having a #9 O after the game is over.

I hope so to Port, I hope so. even if we just hold them to field goals, I'd be extremely happy. Honestly though, them rankings don't mean much, it just alerts them to study us more... I'd much rather fly under radar, then take a ring and call it a "Cinderella" season.

The Skins defense is playing great and has to be flying high off of the Detroit shutdown, but the next month.5 will make/break the season. Five of their next 7 games are on the road at Green Bay, New England, New York (Jets), Dallas, and Tampa. Helluva stretch to say the least. If they can come through that stretch with minimal damage, they'll have 3 of their last 5 at home vs. Chicago, Buffalo, and Dallas. I've heard it said on the radio that the Skins have a cupcake sked, but I'd have to disagree. If they are to thrive with that schedule, the defense will undoubtedly have to play like a top-5er all season.

There are no cupcake schedules ... unless you're team is playing Buffalo every week. That team has had insult added to injury, added to insult, added to injury, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

We can't look at it that way, Chicago was a freak last year (not this year yet coz of injuries). They have this freakish fast Devin "you are ridiculous" Hester as a scoring threat on special teams. Their Defense is not only stingy but greedy too, when I say greedy, I mean they are not happy with just stopping plays, they like to strip the ball too. It finally caught up to them, but man it was sure fun to watch.

Our Defense is looking TOUGH............
After four games, the Redskins rank first in net yards allowed per pass (4.9) and are tied for first in touchdown passes allowed (two) and in passes of more than 40 yards allowed (none). The defense will be tested Sunday in Green Bay, where Brett Favre and the Packers currently boast the top-ranked passing offense in the NFL.

Exactly.
These rankings are totally meaningless. How exactly do you determine who has the best defense? There are a lot of different factors:
How many points does the defense score to help the offense?
How many turnovers does the defense generate?
How well does the defense play in the red zone?
What is the other side's third down conversion rate in the fourth quarter?
In 1st and goal situations, how often does the defense prevent the TD?
How many points does the defense allow in the 4th quarter with the game on the line?
Oh yeah, and how many total yards does the defense allow? -- probably the LEAST important factor of all the ones I listed -- but for reasons of convenience is the statistic everyone pays the most attention to.
