I hope Jerry Gray is right and our corners don't let them off the jam. I hate some of the soft coverages we play. This game will be a real measuring stick for our CBs

Theese recievers are as big or bigger than Plax and Toomer for NY, and alot more athletic, they gave us problems (and helped us with a few key drops). I think what is in order is a complete change in philosophy concerning the playstyle of our defensive backfield, we must be more aggressive especially with the slots. These are 2 of the best slot recievers in the league and we are going to be asking a rookie safety and a linebacker to cover them, unless we go nickle all day. Taylor must remain deep but instead of cover3 shell play bump and run on the corners , linebackers dropping to intermediate pass coverage and lay the wood every time you get a shot (even if its a possible flag) gotta get in thier heads early. This means the fron 4 must play their best game to date because they cant get much help in pass rush from anywhere else. Very few times on sunday will you see less than 4 recievers on the field

Plaxico is 6'5, but so are Mike Williams and Calvin Johnson. Roy Williams is 6'3.

Mike Williams isnt even on the team, and if he were he could be 8'5 and I wouldn't be concerned about him.

lol, ya mike williams is doing nothing in a silver and black uniform now as oppsed to doing nothing in blue and white one.
mike furrey and shaun mcdonald will be out there though. i'm sure our backfield can do their part capably. what concerns me is whether we will be able to generate suffiicent pass rush to help them out (deja vu?...)
hopefully carter has a good day and we can get some hits in area 51 nice and early

What concerns me more, is whether or not our offense can keep our defense off the field as much as possible.

HAS ANYONE NOTICED KITNA'S STATS!. Everyone is saying put pressure on the guy. IMO we need to cover instead of bring the heat. Bears brought the heat all game long. He has 21 sacks so fare in just this season. Thats 21 sacks in four games, and they still have more passing yards than anybody. Conclusion= You can pressure, but they can still burn you with pressure. Pressure hasn't worked against them all four games why would that change agians us? We more in coverage IMO in this game. If we can limit their production we can stay in the game. We bring the heat, we will get beat.
We will get beat deep, and often.

I agree with you. We shouldn't even think about blitzing the Lions. That doesn't mean we can't send a safety, CB, or LB from time to time but we have to drop a DL back to play the area where the DB or LB came from. We could sack Kitna 5 or 6 times and they still might put up 30+ points. But most likely we will give up more big plays bringing more than four than we will get.
This is especially true based on the fact that the Skins generally aren't very effective when they blitz.

the reason they have more passing yards is cuz look at who they have played.. the Raiders, Vikings, Eagles, and Bears. All of them are in the bottom half for pass defense. They had a horrible secondary when they played the lions. It was either crappy to begin with or just because of injuries. so of course somebody like jon kitna will tear it up against them.
and the eagles game was just a shoot out with no defense. and when the eagles got ahead. they just tried to keep them under 50 points. which is not a hard thing to do.
i believe if we do get pressure on him, our secondary is good enough to cover their receivers. they may have a height advantage but with Taylor and Landry roaming back there, they have something to be worried about when they go across the middle.

If the Redskins DB's use that 5 yard rule to knock Detroit's receivers on their backsides it will help immensely. Kitna can't complete timing pattern passes to receivers who never got to the spot. He can, however, throw interceptions to the waiting DB's. If the Redskins DB's do not knock Detroit's receivers off their routes on every down, it won't matter how much pressure the front four or a blitz brings. The Redskins have been very good this season at not giving up the big play. They are not likely to get dinked and dunked for 300 yards and 30+ points.

Bring the Heat. Send one of the twins (Taylor & LAndry) every 2nd down. Freddy is back so they have a nice rotation on CB's. Plus we have speedy linebackers that can close in on the short, medium passes. Most importantly though, get the run game established. Smash mouth with Betts, Sellers, then Portis for a few, but I'd say give it to sellers more. Get the big guy in the mix early and use Portis sparingly. Send

ey out, let him catch and rumble. They are going to cover El real good on this one so he might not be a factor, specially if Moss is out. If by chance moss plays, send him on downfield, no slants, no coming across the middle routes, he's a ferrari built for speed, not a pick up truck that can take big hits like Thrash. Then when were up 14 pts in the third QTR. DO NOT CHANGE A THING! Keep the intensity, maybe insert Bloyd in there for Moss and have him run downfield routes, you don't have to throw to him, but at least he's in there getting some work in.

DBs are definitely going to have their work cut out for them. I'll be curious to see though how those Lions WRs feel after they run into Taylor and Landry a few times.
