How long before Norv Turner is fired from San Diego?

It is just a matter of time before Norv gets fired from San Diego but I wonder how long most fans here feel it will take.

Norv should have been fired before he was hired.

A. J. Smith should be fired.
And Norv too. Why he was ever given another shot as a head coach is beyond me.

No way should Norv be allowed to finish the season. His "leadership" ruined the Chargers.

It almost never helps a team to fire a coach mid-season. Might as well let him finish out the year at least, and then, after they go from 14-2 to below .500, can his rear and try to find someone better to utilize all that talent. But I've never been a fan of mid-season firings, unless the coach was caught committing crimes or something like that.

This is one of those rare cases where it just might work. Do you think Marty could come back in mid-season and turn this thang around? :?:

It could work. I just wonder if the GM there has had enough helpings of humble pie to bring Marty back. What a stupid, stupid move . . .

What is more painful?

A. Have a talent laden, championship calliber team, and loose regular season games left and right because your "offensive genius" coach can't manage an entire team, or;

B. Have a lalent laden, championship calliber team that gets to the championship game only to have the coach choke every year?

Both would kind of suck.

True, but I'll take more wins over less any day of the week. It was until just last year that Tony Dungy had the exact same reputation. Now, his Super Bowl ring says otherwise. Which coach as a head coach has had a team closer to the SB? Marty is still better than Norv.

Nothing pleases me more this year, other than a Skins' win, than to see Nervous Norville choking this teams chances away....

Sit back and enjoy the implosion...
I can still hear madden ripping the Redskins for firing "a good coach" UGH

Just two points...

1: Marty has been choking away championships for a lot longer than Dungy...

2: Marty IS better than Norv... but my question was; which is more painful? to see the season pissed away, or to know you will get within one or two games of the show, only to have your coach choke? I think the latter would hurt more. Consider the plight of the poor Bills fan of the late 80's and early 90's. How about the miserable Vikings fan of the 60's and 70's?

I guess that means that San Diego should have waited to clinch a playoff berth first -- and then fire Marty. Hahahahahahaha.

I voted for the second option, the end of the 2007 season. I expect HIM and the GM to be fired with GUSTO.

Well, either that, or the fans and general population in San Diego will start a riot on the streets of that beautiful city.

I'd rather have Norv then Marty because either way we're not going all the way and I just thought Marty was a horses (bleep). Daryl Green's comment that Marty treated him like a "rookie" was proably the most descriptive quote I heard. You just don't run successful organizations like that.

OK, you don't run successful organizations like Norv either, but at least he's not such a horses (bleep) about it.

True, but think of it this way, as a 'skins fan - which seasons did you enjoy more: 2005, when our dreams died in the playoffs in Seattle, or 2004 and 2006, when the season was done well before that? Playoff games are like love - 'tis better to try and fail, rather than never try at all! :)

Actually the owner might even fire the GM. I would love to see Marty get his job back. I believe it will revitalize that team in San Diego.

Its not Marty who choked those championships away.

In 87 in the AFC championship game Browns vs Broncos. Who fumbled the ball at the goaline? It was Ernest Byner. If Ernest would have scored that touchdown the Browns would have went on to face the Redskins that year.
He would have faced a dominating NFC team regardless. Could the Browns have beat the Skins? How about the Niners? How about the GIants ? Ah probably not.

Marty was coaching in the AFC in the 80s and early ninetys. That is when the NFC dominated. He would have faced a better team every time he might have made it to the Super Bowl. So to classify him as a playoff choker is unfair. Marty just had pretty good teams that would have got beaten by a dominating Niners team of the 80s, Giants, Redskins of the 80s.

I think it's funny that some of you are talking about the GM 'bringing marty back'.

It shows so LITTLE knowledge about what jettisoned Marty in the first place, that it's really about the most ridiculous thing you could possibly suggest.

... for those interested in actual facts... ownership made the decision to KEEP AJ Smith and FIRE Marty because they just could not keep both - they were completely opposed to EACH OTHER in every way, shape and form.

Unfortunately, that did not prove to be the case, and the process of dealing with these coaching changes convinced me that we simply could not move forward with such dysfunction between our head coach and general manager. - Chargers President Dean Spanos

I mean, if you're going to deal strictly in 'what ifs' and hyperbole... how about at least trying to look at SOME of the facts in place?

The Chargers fired Marty BECAUSE of the contention between him and Smith... how doe it make an iota of sense to suggest that the SAME GM would dump Norv to bring Marty back?

AJ Smith HAS to be the one that loses his job first. Then maybe you can at least talk about all of these 'rediculous' scenarios.

Absolutely agreed, although in hindsight it looks as though Spanos should have fired A.J. Smith and kept Marty Wisenheimer. This has to be one of the worst personnel decisions I can recall in recent memory. The Redskins would beg, borrow, steal and kill to have a 14-2 season. My 2 cents

Among several other points of contention, Marty wanted to keep Brees and AJ wanted to trade Drew and get P. Rivers to play ASAP. The trade cost the Chargers a chance to play in the Superbowl last year if you ask me.

Chargers finally played "well" yesterday by a move that a genius could have only thought of: give the ball to LT more often!

The result against Denver only goes to show how bad Broncos are, how good LT is, and -NOT-t how good Norv became all of the sudden.

Agreed. Feed Lt the ball, play decent defense they should cruise to at least ten wins. At this point keeping it simple is serving them well.
