Look On the Bright Side

As much as the Giants game really really pains me, when I look at the big picture here, I still see that the Redskins are 2 - 1 right now.

Looking at our schedule before the season even started, I had them being (at best) 1 -2 right now.

So, I'm still not that unhappy about where this team is right now.

When Detroit comes to town, if we are able to right our ship, we can be 3 -1 after playing 4 weeks.

Who, out there, will really be uphappy about that?

So, my brothers and sisters, let's just try to put this game behind us (where it truly belongs) and focus on the future.

There are still a lot of games left to play this season!

One final thought - if the Redskins ever get a 1st and goal at the 1 yard line again this season, I bet there is a 100% chance now we will always come out with a TD. That is the (very tough) lesson they learned from this game. So, it can't be all bad - can it?

Might as well, with no game next week it would be hard to stay pissed for two weeks only a game out of first in the Div.

It's good that you can be positive the next morning. I'm still kinda tweaked at the 2nd half "adjustments." I'm still unable to comprehend what went on last nite when I think about it. Granted, I'm an arm-chair QB, but still. Something needs to be done with the playcalling and it's not a pitch....

I agree  We have 2 weeks till the next game and hopefully the painful lessons learned from this game and really from the past 3 weeks will all mean that this group can grow and become a decent team this season - I still think that we have a team that has potential to be good and while I do not think we will be playing many playoff games I do believe we are not far away from that.

We have some really good players and just need to start putting them in position on both offense and defense to be able to make the plays - we are very close to being a top 10 NFL team and I do not think there are all that many NFC teams that are really a lot better than we are capable of being.

A very disapointing end to this game but we could have saved ourselves from that scenario by playing better on both sides in the 3rd quarter - actually the offense was hardly on the field in this period but then that was mainly because IMO the play selection went way too conservative and we seemed to always be at 2nd and very long :(

We looked horrible in the second half, that's obvious, but somehow it felt like we came in unprepared for this NFC fight, we played scared and tentative. This is a good lesson to learn specially in the beginning of the season, and righht before a bye week. Hopefully the guys will come out and play with a chip on their shoulders at detroit. And there is still a LOT not just a little but a LOT of confusion on which guy does what in our coaching staff, on the plus side our couching staff (us fans) are will be on this boat wheather it sinks or flots or flies. GO SKINS.

Disappointing definitely... but also was anybody really surprised by the loss? Man, I wasn't at all. The whole thing is so typical of this team. This is the team we are for whatever reason.

I don't mean this to be totally negative about it or anything. I love the Redskins and will be supporting them no matter what cos I'm a sucker like that.

I'm kind of curious though what it will take to change this team's character once and for all and become a team that expects to win every week of every year and doesn't blow 17 point leads at home against a division rival.

I think we've been a mediocre team for a long time. I hope Coach Gibbs can straighten them out this year.

I hate to be negative in this 'bright side" thread, but GIBBS WON'T LEARN. The only way we can turn it around is to let ONE MAN have ALL THE POWER. We continue to juggle playcallers and we will fail. Period.

This is a big question that I have...how do you now we are juggling playcallers??? I simply don't have the facts...do you??

How could you have them at 1-2 at best? I understand the Eagles were a playoff team last year but the giants and especially the dolphins are not good. This was a game they had in hand and, mark it down, it will come back to bite them in the arse.

Only the Redskins actually know who is calling the plays, however, we can make an educated guess that Al Saunders does not call the "50 Gut" play on every 1st and Second Down. That is a play that is proprietary to Joe Gibbs. I doubt that play was even in Al Saunders playbook before he came to the Redskins.

If you've kept up with football the past twenty years, then you'd know. It was also STATED by JG that he took over at least the last 4 plays. If you've kept of with KC and Saunders in the past years, you'd KNOW that this is not his playcalling. I don't know how much clearer it can be.

The latter half of hte year, there was an article on redskins.com about how Saunders was the O Coordinator, but didn't have the reigns to run his offense. JG wouldn't give him the control. It's obviously still an issue by the ultra conservative calls we've had.

I never saw were Gibbs said that... Everyone is complaining about the playcalling during the second have. Who was calling the palys there??? And yes I do keep up, I just try to make informed not emotional comments. My question to you was legit I wasn't being sarcastic! If you read my other post, you'd see I agree, I was wondering who was calling the plays at the end of the game...not becuase I disagreed with the calls but I disagreed with the managemnet of the last 4 plays...what was wrong with the play calling???

It was in an article shortly after last season was over about how JG and AS came from the same place in the beginning and the assumption that they would be compatible as a cohesive offensive team. I apologize if it seemed rude, I tend to lose my tact pretty easily. I'll try to drudge it up, but I don't know if I will be able to find it from last year.

Well, let's see.

The Dolphins do have a very good defense and the stink of that Vikings loss last year was fresh in my mind before the start of the season.

0 - 1 wouldn't shock me; however, I had us winning that one.

Going to Philly in week #2? Considering our prior record against the NFC East?

1 - 1

Home against the Giants, again thinking before the year started, once again remember how bad this team does against the NFC East?

1 - 2

That is why I expected a 1 -2 start (at best), hoping we didn't re-live that Vikings nightmare from last year.

Let us try to provide a summary:

1) Decency is a worthy aim.

2) Potential is there.

3) No playoffs this season.

4) Maybe next season.

Agreed. This is a balanced and realistic assessment. Sadly, I would have preferred to hear an irrational and angry Monday rant. It would have been easier to dismiss it as a temporary emotional outburst.

Thanks for bringing us back to earth. It will get better but the term cautious optimism was never better described. 8)

Wish I could look at this as positively as you do, but i don't. Although Detroit is an NFL team, they're truly pathetic, regardless of their record. We lost to a really bad team at home when we had them by 2 TDs. The only thing that might get the taste of this game out of my mouth will be beating Dallas.

I've been looking on the bright side all day. Remember, it's the bye week this weekend, so we won't get put through this again for at least another two weeks.

This loss was the best possible thing that could have happened to the Redskins this week. Up 17-3, 2-0 on the season, these guys had already started believing the hype. If we had held on to win, the players would have treated this bye week as an extended vacation and the entire season would have derailed. As it is, we lost a tough game to a divisional opponent that could NOT afford to lose. For the Giants, this was a must-win game. They played a great game and got a great win. (That everyone is saying that is a compliment to the Skins.) And frankly, you don't learn much about yourself as a team by winning. Every team has to go through adversity in order to grow and improve and GET HUNGRY.

In the second half, the plays were there to be made. The execution--the focus--was gone. Dropped passes, missed assignments, missed tackles, overthrown balls, and a fumble--those are the things that killed us. The players know it and when they break down the game film they'll be kicking themselves. Even with terrible execution on both sides of the ball, down the stretch BOTH the defense and the offense made the plays they needed to make to put the team in a position to come back and tie it up. If Betts follows his block on that 2nd down, he's in. If Campbell hits Moss on that play-action bomb--which he will, one of these weeks (it's the last weapon we're missing and the most potent one)--a field goal wins the game. But thank God we didn't win. Because this team needs to stay hungry and get angry and put it together for an entire game, week after week.

If the coaches would only learn from their mistakes, that would be great. but they don't.... and we will suffer as fans for it.

Yeah, that one hurt! I couldn't believe we didn't get in! Honestly I thought we were done when the refs flagged Raybach for holding AFTER we got the first down. That meant we had to do it AGAIN, but this time from ten yards back. And then he gets flagged for a false start! MAN, HOW DID CAMPBELL DO IT? He kept cool during that time and its just to bad that he didn't get the win. If he got the win everyone would be saying "Look at this guy!". Now, all they say is look at the cruddy Giants..............I can't wait until we play them again!
