Injuries occur in sports but no one deserves this. If you happen to be religious take a few seconds to pray for this man. If you don't happen to be religious take a few seconds to pray for this man anyway. For the record, I don't happen to be religious. Again, no one deserves this.

I saw that yesterday.

He may never walk again. I've been praying for him since yesterday.

This guy can't catch a break. He was a promising rookie last year but missed the whole season with an injury.

My best wishes go out to Everett.

espn is reporting that it is very bleak that he will walk again and his life may still be in danger

I've watched football for over 30 years and I've always thought that it's amazing that you don't see more injuries like that. I love football but it's a brutal sport.

I even remember when Stingley was injured by Tatum. For those of you too young to remember Tatum, he was a smaller version of Taylor -- a very heavy hitting DB. He had a real rep as a dirty player too.

What a shame...the young man was way too young for this. I'm praying he was a Christian. God be with him...

Tatum was never the same player after that.

Yes, I recall the above and, more recently, Mike Utley. No matter how much the NFL attempts to improve safety equipment to prevent this sort of injury there will unfortunately always be someone who is unlucky enough to suffer this type of injury.

Several reports are stating that this young man may never regain full use of his body. His surgeon only gave him the slimmest of chances for full recovery. I'm praying for that slim chance.

But it raises the continuing concern of the use of the totally poor "lead with your head" tackling technique.

The crown of the helmet should -- and I understand each tackle can't be made perfectly -- NEVER be the point of first contact when making a tackle.

Head up, shoulder in the gut, wrap the arms, drop the runner.

That's been the fundamentals since Day 1 and I've seen nothing to suggest it's needed to change one iota since then.

You can lead with your helmet as long as you keep your head up, with your eyes looking at the target. The trouble comes when you 'flinch' and begin to tuck your head between your shoulders, leading with the top of your head instead of your forehead.

Dennis Byrd, who was paralyzed back in '92(?) basically had this same accident. He thought he was going to hit the quarterback and leaned in, but then the QB stepped up into the pocket. His teammate was behind the QB, and in a moment of reaction Byrd ducked, causing the spine to take the full force of the blow, breaking his neck.

This situation is so sad. God bless you in your recovery, Kevin Everett.

I'd like to forward everyone's best wishes to Kevin Everett at Millard Fillmore Hospital by e-mail. I believe they will be given to either his mother or to the Bills coaching staff to read to Kevin. If anyone objects to this please let me know either in this thread or by PM. I'd like to show that Redskins fans have more class than many other NFL fans do. If this were any one of us ...

Doctors just stated Kevin has range of motion in all extremities and think he will eventually make a full recovery ... If it weren't for the memory of Derrick Thomas I'd start to celebrate.

What do you all think guys, does God perform miracles? I'm thinking so. Yesterday, the reports were so grave that he might not survive. Today the docs are saying -- he may WALK again. Unbelievable. Guess you could give all the credit to the docs, the patients will to live or....

To the guy who wants the okay to give these posts to his family -- you don't need our approval really. It's all good and positive stuff! It's public postings so I don't see approval as being needed.

Totally off subject but another miracle to mention -- we had probably 10 hummingbirds around our house this summer. My wife feeds them reguarly -- they starting leaving this weekend and are all gone as of today. They migrate to Mexico...no joke -- for the winter! Get this -- they will return to the same place next summer. While I can't prove the same 10 will be back, there is evidence that they return to the previous location. Tell me how that works? Luck?

Go skins! Wonder if my hummers past the Skins in flight Sunday night?

As for part one, definitely a miracle. It's always scary when the doctors are the ones with no hope. As for part 2, I can only say that if someone fed me all summer, I would probably find my way back also.

My prayers are with this guy. A promising career cut short by a freak accident.

I saw that on ESPNEWS tonight. It is great news and made me feel a lot better knowing that he has this much range of motion.

If true, then it's great work by the doctors. It was a scary incident, and serves to remind us of the true dangers that these players choose to overcome in order to play the game.

How great is that, two days ago there was talk that he may not live and if he did he would proballly never walk. Now they are saying he may make a full recovery, his prayers have been answered. Good luck!
