Why NO DOMINANT DE?

Why don't the Redskins acquire a new DE? I wake up each day thinking that they will, but nothing. There must be an arrogance or complacency that goes misunderstood. Thanks for answering.

i think the answer is fairly obvious. the "blame" can not be put on GW's 'arrogance' its just the system. his system has always been a blitzing attacking system predicated on smart play and good tackling by everyone due to the situations the secondary/whoever is covering is left in under the situation that the pressure does not get to the qb. a good coverage and tackling secondary is much more important than a great d-line in our system and we addressed that problem very well this offseason. also think back to the teams that finished 9th and 2nd in the league in defense respectively. who was on our dline that was so great? renaldo wynn? phillip daniels? cmon it isnt like we need dominance on the d-line we just need guys to plug up gaps so additional rushers can get through.

Gosh, I can't understand why they don't just go to corner Defense End store and buy one? I'm mean, obviously, there's all these all-pro dominant defensive ends just sitting out there waiting for the Redskins to come along...

The question probably should have been, "why did we not address de in the draft or free agency?" Yes our secondary looks impressive, but the best secondary of all time can't cover for an eternity. I too wish we had acquired a real pass rusher, we really need to get pressure with our front 4. Great quarterbacks make you pay for the blitz.

Andre Carter has looked pretty darn dominant this preseason if you ask me.

In due time. Next years draft is when we will pick up either the Defensive End out of LSU or Miami that is my guess. Also Andre Carter hasnt looked bad thus far.

Where in the world do you think we are going to get a dominant defensive now?

Let's hope Andre Carter picks up where he left off last year. Did I also hear that we intend to use Marcus Washington a little more as a pass rusher?

He wants a NEW one. We already had AC when he went to sleep.
He thinks the FO is showing arrogance by not doing so before he gets up in the morning, there is a misunderstood complacency because it keeps happening over and over.

I would love to be able to draft Calais Campbell from Miami but he is most likely going to be a top 10, if not a top 5, pick. Hopefully we aren't in a position where he have that type of high draft choice.

That was the plan earlier on in the preseason, but I would think that Washington's injured elbow would probably put that idea on the back burner for now.

I can't think of one bad thing about the way oue DEs have played this preseason. I think we had more 3 and outs in the 4 preseason games than we had all last year.

I don't think we are going to go out of our way to find one. This years college draft will be packed with them. Our defense looks VERY good this year but I do agree that we could use a better push up front! I think we will be fine.

Why would we change the way we play him due to an elbow injury from which he has recovered?

yeah i'm with you guys here.. i think the group of guys we have now are bad ace. i cant wait for the season to start so they can start ripping some heads off man. bringing in somebody now would just mess everything up.

My opinion... the OL/DL is the most important positions in the game! DE is a very important postion

But I think our D is good and will be TOP 5 this year

Also Chris Long out of Virginia or Quentin Groves out of Auburn who is good too. Its gonna be a great draft for D-ends next year.

Gibbs' teams, historically, seem to be based on establishing the run on offense and stopping the run on defense.
Williams' defensive scheme has seemed to favor getting good coverage from the secondary and trying to bring pressure in ways the QB (and offensive co-ordinators) cannot predict.

Williams and his defensive coaches must be seeing things in practice that has allowed them to let guys like Wynn & Salavea go because the guys that were behind these "decent" linemen are going to prove to be better over the course of the season. Our D needed to get younger and faster.
We all saw that Carter was improving towards the end of last year and I think everyone knows what sort of effort Wynn (& our ex Samoan) put in this off-season to make themselves better - unfortunately IMO we needed to get younger and faster and even though these guys gave it a good shot the coaches obviously have a better idea of who can help us win games.

The number of defensive ends in next years draft probably made the decision to go with a safety a lot easier this year. Our guys may not be dominant, but they are good, real good. I'll take Carter from the mid year point last year til now over most ends in football.

We could've had Dwight Freeney.

Agreed. I have no worries about our D-line. GW and his staff arent the highest paid coaching staff in the league for no reason. Everybody on this site talks about how we need to build a core group of guys to lead this team and stop going out and signing every big name on the market (not that there are any now) and now when our FO actually is doing this, now they are stupid for NOT going out and getting another big name player. Its called faith guys.... Im sure GW and Co know what they are doing. Carter is gonna be a stud this year.. last year he had to relearn the DE position from playing LB with the niners. Golston and Montgomery seem to be living up to potential these days. Between these guys and the rest of the d-line, i see us having a top 10 D this year.

We have a good enough D-line to do well this season. Next year the Skins should spend rounds 1-3 picking offensive/defensive line help. Looking toward the future and the present.
