Probably on ST.

I'm looking forward to our first injury at WR so we can see this new WR play (never heard of him and doubt he will be around long enough to bother knowing his name).

{that was sarcasm guys - why sign this guy to the active roster, just sign him to the practice squad}

We are extremely thin at WR.

I was stunned by the Bodiford signing, so I googled him and found this link which indicates that he was in position to make the Packers but suffered a "severe knee injury" on 9/01/07.....now I'm even more perplexed.

Edit: The injury occured on 8/18, he was cut from GB on 9/1

I am concerned about the fact that we do not seem to be finished with the roster. There might be a few changes still but with only less than a week ahead of our first regular season game.

Here's a link to some info about Cody. He was apparently ranked by this source as the 10th best TE in this year's draft class (Tyler Ecker was #25, for what that's worth). He's tall, but not the fastest guy in the world and apparently not durable....sounds like a slow version of Stephen Alexander.

Edit: He was with the Steelers as an UDFA in preseason.

I have a new theory: the Skins were searching for a WR and TE, but got tired while reading the waiver wire and didnt get past the letter C, so they decided to end it early and just pick up Bodiford and Cody....I'll stick to that until a more sensible theory arises.

On the other hand, it's probably not worth it to get so excited about these guys (5th WR and 3rd TE)...we'll only see them on ST if at all (hopefully)

THATS funny...

Bodiford sounds like an Ade Jimoh of the offense. Special Teamer....not gamer....freaky accidents on opening plays...etc

Boyd could be interesting..Sounds pretty good on ST as well... 6'8" TE.....might be a good third TE behind Cooley(Speed&Hands) & Yoder(Hands&Blocking).

They'll go into the season pretty much with this roster, thinks will change on 9/10.
After the season starts they pick up someone at WR that will cost a little more money to sign, if that player doesn't work out theey can cut him and find someone else. Bodiford's Salary for for 2007 is $360000, and Boyd is at $285000. Players with 3-5 years in the league will cost a min of a half million dollars. Player's base salaries are guaranteed if they are on the roster for week one, but not if they sign after that point. So it's cheaper to sign a guy to fill out the roster for a week and then bring in a veteran (they may or may not work out) after the season starts.

At least I hope that's the case.

Why in the world would we sign a guy who is out 4-6 weeks with a sprained MCL??? We are dangerously thin at WR and we sign a guy that wont even be able to get on the field for a few more weeks.

Packers WR Shaun Bodiford Injury

Wisconsin 8/21/2007 1:04 AM GMT (TransWorldNews) Packers WR Shaun Bodiford will miss four-to-six weeks with an MCL sprain.

He'll likely go on injured reserve.

A player the coaching staff was openly high on, Bodiford had been competing for a roster spot as mostly a return man.

Bodiford, Powdrell and end Michael Montgomery were on crutches in the locker room when it was open to the media this afternoon.

Montgomery, who injured the MCL in his right leg, did not speak with reporters.

A fourth player who suffered an MCL injury Saturday, tackle Orrin Thompson, was not in the locker room.

Only Montgomery was likely to make the Packers' 53-man roster, though Bodiford was fighting for a spot as a return man.

Powdrell's injury leaves the Packers with only four healthy backs -- Noah Herron and rookies Brandon Jackson, Korey Hall and Corey White.

However, General Manager Ted Thompson said there are no imminent plans to bring in someone else.

Well there's the answer to our previous questions. Hopefully they will be a help. For those who were looking for a tall target, Boyd certainly fits that description.

well how often does the 5th receiver go into the game? and when he does go in the game, how often is it a passing play that goes to him? i give it 6 weeks until we either release him, put him on IR, or demote him to practice squad. then we'll bring some one else in or something
