When does his contract expire? I don't think it is this year. So, wouldn't the Skins wait until he gets near the end of his current contract, as well as waiting to see what next year's cap numbers will look like, to start working on a new contract? I'm sure it will be a priority to re-sign him when the time comes.

I believe he is under contract until 2010, so it's not a priority this year. Don't worry, Taylor will get his payday.

I believe he is under contract until the year 2011, like someone said above when the time comes he will get his payday.

Signed a seven-year, $18 million contract in July of 2004. He's made more than twice that with the incentives and he can void the last year. The Redskins appeared to be headed in the right direction as far as Draft picks coming up on free agency with the re-signing of Betts. That made Cooley and ST "no-brainers". It'll get done next year.

A little premature to think about Taylor at this point. However, I do think the Redskins will do the right thing by him at the appropiate time. Unless he proposes a strong desire to renegotiate prior to the expiration of his rookie contract, that would be the only concern. He has maintained he has no problem with his current contract (contrary to the concerns of many) so I think when the time comes, he'll get done.

Taylor's contract is up at end of next season, they need to start trying to sign him now. Technically the contract was six years, but is voidable at end of next season under certain circumstances, which he already met. They need to use any cap room we may have left this year and put it toward S.T. and get him done to a long term deal. Him and Landry should be lifetime skins !!!

Don't just read the thread title and post, read the very enlightening comments first:

Yeah I don't think Larry Johnson was due for a new contract this year either.

I'd like to see Snyder do the right thing and sign this player soon rather than let him get disgruntled.

LJ held out. and he did it because he just set a league record for most carries in a season. He wants to get paid now before he gets hurt. He's one of the top 3 RBs in the league and was still on rookie contract i believe. So he just wanted what he earned already.

Honestly, I think the FO will do everything possible but he is gonna be the most sought after FA. The deciding factor is going to be have the Skins used its draft picks to fill gaps, is the team winning, and will his enthusiasm to play for GW worth the millions less he would take to stay. Theres no way we offer him more than another team. We just won't have the money he'll demand
