The Redskins and tight end Chris

ey have agreed to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced on Saturday.

ey was entering the final year of his rookie contract. He would have been an unrestricted free agent following the 2007 season.
The team does not typically announce terms of contract extensions, but it is likely a long-term deal.
In three seasons with the Redskins,

ey has emerged as a productive tight end and one of the more popular players among fans and teammates.
He was drafted by the Redskins in the third round (81st overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft.
In his career,

ey has caught 165 career passes for 1,822 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Last season, he caught a team-high 57 passes for 734 yards and six touchdowns. He earned Pro Bowl alternate status.
His best season was 2005, when he caught 71 passes for 77 yards and seven touchdowns.

Redskins signed Chris

ey to a 6-year contract extension.

ey is just 25, and the contract should lock him up through his prime. He should continue to improve with Jason Campbell under center. Financial terms of the deal are currently unknown.

Jason LaCanfora is reporting that Dan Snyder stepped in this week and made a push to get this done. Let's give some credit to the front office, who we generally blast unmercilessly, for addressing this before the season.
The Kendall acquisitin (which I liked) notwithstanding, I wish they would have done the same thing for Dockery last year.

This is really good news! Listening to Chris speak about it in his own words shows his excitement to be a Redskin for several years to come.

thank god we got this out of the way. now he can just focus on playing. cuz no matter what he says, if he didnt get this done, he would have been thinking about it all season. and that would not be a good thing man

Note how he talked about wanting to get it done so he could play here his whole career as opposed to getting it done so he could get paid.

The best part of the interview was when

ey said, "I was glad that they wanted to do it with me." lol

Great news. I was a little worried that something wouldn't get done, as sometimes the FO values other teams FA's more than their own.

Depending on who leads the next regime after Gibbs,

Great news. So glad they got this done now, instead of worrying about it during the season.
