OK guys... First off, let me say I have always been a huge Jon Jansen fan. I watched him at Michigan and was eleated when the Skins' drafted him. He's been a true warrior for this team. I'm afraid though, his time has run out as a starter. He again almost got Campbell killed last night. He's gotten beat continuously this preseason. I'm sorry but I have to start the push for Wade to start at right tackle. It's been well publicized that Wade looked better in practice last year and I'm sure once healthy he would again. Jansen does OK run blocking but his pass blocking is pretty bad right now. I know that this is sacrilegious to most of you but what do you guys think?

We need to use some of those 7 draft picks next year on a stud Tackle. Jansen needs to re-dedicate his body or something because he's not old enough to start looking like that.
Not sure he should be benched though.

Looking at the 2008 cap numbers we might want to use AT LEASE half those picks on O-line in general.
Jansen, 8,833,000
Thomas, 8,756,000
Samuels, 8,250,000

He's had to play while "banged up" quite a bit the last few years, maybe Wade can spell him as needed so he can get back to where he's use to being. I don't see a reason to bench him either.

It amazes me how quickly we forget how much some of these players have given this team over the years. We go from "Man he is good" to "Man his time has passed". Jansen played last year, the year before, and maybe the year before that with injuries that most players would have sat down with.
Cut these guys some slack.

Are you sure your numbers are right? I could have sworn that Jansen and Thomas both signed extensions right before the draft this year...............I only ask because it makes no sense to have two guys have 8 million dollar cap hits in the second year of their extension.

wow... settle bud. I think I'm stating the obvious with this guy. I don't want to cut the guy, but I don't want him starting and playing like he has.

Because no one said a word about a thing he said. I think he's assuming everyone wants to just toss the guy aside. I would say most of us are agreeing that he's struggling right now and that the best guy should be in there, not the most experienced. No one has forgotten anything.

A "struggling" Jansen is still the best RT we have.

I'm really not sure about that anymore. Wade was said to be besting him in practice last year, and from what I saw of him playing the tackle position, they might be right.
Listen, I want to be wrong though. I want that line to come out and pass and run block their butts off. I really do. I just don't want Campbell to get killed either.

The rolly eyes are the most intellectual thing added to this thread. Thanks for the insight.

I don't see why Skins fans get so attached to a single player. I said in my post that Jansen probably still deserves to start, but some of us reply with Rolly Eyes when its suggested that we should ......SAY draft for the FUTURE?
Our entire O-Line is over 30, so if we don't draft replacements now...we're gonna have to spend HIGH dollars in FA trying to sign vets to fill these positions.
Anyone want to spend 45 million on Derrick Dockery?? Maybe some of us would. It's not being fickle, its being real. Even Joe Jacoby had to move to guard in his later years. After playing nearly a decade in the NFC east along the Offensive line of a usually run first team, it will take a toll on your body.
Jansen has endured a torn an Achilles, broken two thumbs, and wears a rubber brace on his elbows...I guess

is the correct response whenever someone suggests that he's not the player he used to be.

Just for the record, I do recall reading that, although I don't have a specific article or quote.
Nevertheless, I agree that Jansen has struggled over the past couple of years but he has had some significant injuries. I thought he was a bit slow last year but only because it takes more than year to fully recover from the Achilles injury. I think this year will tell the tale and I'm willing to give him that chance.

Seems I've been hearing a lot about some guy named Heyer lately.

I know what you are getting at and I can't tell you the specific date, but most of us read the washington post and I've seen it printed in there several times.

Right now he's a backup LT...if we did end up moving him, we'd still need to draft O-Line.
Whats the resisitance to building the O-Line through the draft. It makes no since being that the players we all like (Jansen / Samuels) were drafted by the Skins.
Good teams don't draft once there's already a gaping hole. You draft a replacement at an important position when you are certain that you will need that player to start for the long haul.
I like all of our lineman, but they are aging and it would make us a better team to have young guys in the wings to take over.
The Ravens already have Ogden's replacement on the roster. The Steelers already have stud backup O-linemen. When Tarik Glen retired for Indy, they had a stud draft pick who is now starting for them.

I never did and I have a Post subscription! Besides, Gibbs doesn't any media watch practice and the Post is not the most reliable of sources.

"Rolly eyes" come when a poster suggests Jansen "rededicate" himself. Questioning his work ethic got the reply it deserved

I wasn't attacking you; I just don't remember ever seeing that.

I'm ready to believe it, if it's reported from a reliable person or organization; it's not like I find that out of the question. But I'm a bit skeptical, at least, until then.

Hey and Casey had some hanky panky going on in the trailer according to Lunch with the Skins. They need to cut it out with "the brain" and rededicate themselves. =)

Todd Wade - It's Getting Close
Hey there. I know that the NFL Network is reporting a deal with Wade is done. And I don't doubt it will get done (I think I had him at least tied for the highest score in America's Next Top Dock a while back). But I have multiple sources on both sides of the negotiations telling me that as of 11 pm ish Wed. night, they were very close but had not in fact agreed to terms.
So I got's to go with that. Have to play it safe and go with what I know. I do believe they will get a multi-year deal done by Thursday.
Several players said privately that facing Wade in practice last season was often more difficult than going against starting tackle Jon Jansen, and Wade's return, when coupled with the re-signing of Mike Pucillo, would give Washington solid depth at vital positions.
Wade (6-foot-8, 317 pounds) was originally selected 53rd overall by Miami in 2000 and was signed to a hefty contract by Houston in 2004, including a $10-million bonus. He started 13 games for the Texans that season but suffered a career-threatening knee injury in 2005, and was signed by the Redskins last September. He recovered fully from the knee problems and, should the sides complete a multi-year deal as expected, could fill a crucial role in 2007.
