Skins looking for WR help...

The Redskins could reportedly have interest in free agent Doug Gabriel.

Washington showed interest in Gabriel during the offseason and could use competition for current third receiver Brandon Lloyd. Gabriel also has good size at 6-2/215, something the Redskins lack in their receiving corps

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Chris Chambers' name has come up in trade talks across the league in recent days.

Schefter says Reggie Williams and Michael Clayton are also being dangled by their respective franchises. Chambers has always been overrated by fans and the media, and that a receiver-weak Dolphins team would shop him just goes to make that more obvious. He might bring back a third-round pick as compensation. Williams and Clayton would likely net late-round choices.

Knowing how the skins love to give up draft picks, I could see us asking about chambers.

Chambers is a good receiver. He has just played on a crappy team. He's been about the only offense that team has had. Look at their QB's.

Gabriel had problems in the locker room if I remember correctly. That is the only thing that worries me.

Reggie Williams is moving up the depth chart on the Jag's from what I hear. If there is anything they need is a WR. None have panned out.

I agree that Chambers is a decent receiver who's simply been stuck on a crappy team, but I wouldn't be willing to give up anything for him, especially draft picks. I seriously doubt they make a move for him, unless it's a player trade... like Chambers for Moss, Portis and Taylor. Ha! Juuust kidding.

Reggie Williams i think can still pan out. He was a solid receiver last year, showed potential explosive talent, and is still young. I think him, Gabriel, or Clayton could be cheap, young help. Chambers is older and will be expensive.

I don't think the team is looking for competition for Lloyd so much as it is looking for insurance should one of the top 3 guys be lost for any significant amount of time. And I have a tough time believing Miami would sent Chambers to their first opponent of the season.

wow! now that is insightful!

good points Fios - also, I think that Lloyd will be a part of this team this year and show a lot of doubters why he is a decent (if not good) WR

Not another Bum! We dont need this Gabriel fella. I would take Chambers in a second though. We still have to see how our current receivers will do with a full season of Campbell. I still have not given up on our receivers yet. It may take this whole season probably towards the end of the season they will really start to gel.

Other than that I really dont see any free agent WR that are worth picking up. Chris Chambers I believe is still on MIamis roster. He is a good wideout though.

Chris Chambers is 5'11" for those of you that didn't know.

What if Lloyd is a bust? I mean that is still a possibility is it not? If he has the kind of year this year he did his first year then we'd have to say he is as much of , if not more of a bust as AA.

B. Lloyd is not a bust...you will see this season. He is actually a very good wide-out who knows how to get open. I can't wait for him to produce and help bolster our recieving corp as the best in the NFL.

I think we're all pulling for Lloyd but there aren't any guarantees...

I don't like the thought of giving up a 3rd for Chambers... He's good and was on a sucky team but we just dropped a 4th round pick. If we still had our 4th, I'd consider this trade.

If we get a WR lets just get someone who show's promise and isn't a midget. Lets see what he can do and possibly address the issue next off season.

Before this gets too far out of hand, please remember, no one anywhere save in this thread is discussing this trade and I am 99.99999% certain it will NOT happen.

I was just going off of what the article said of Chambers requiring a 3rd round pick. I don't think it'll happen either.

Yeah, that wasn't directed to you so much as I'd rather not spend the rest of the day reading people rip the FO for a trade that was made up on this site.

I would rather us take a chance at Charles Rogers, there has to be some tallent there and we would give up nothing to bring him in.

I can't believe this stupid FO would even consider blowing a 3rd round pick for him. What an ignorant bunch of buffoons. This is just more of the same... give away draft picks, for what?

There... that's done...

Initially, I'd tend to agree, but it's too late to bring a guy like that in. Rogers isn't an established veteran cut by his team due to age or salary cap - he's a certified bust who would need time to show he's developed the work ethic to suceed in this league, something he hasn't demonstrated so far. Remember, he's already worked out for four teams since he was cut by the Lions last year, and they all passed on him - there's probably a good reason for that. One of those teams was New England last year, a team that was clearly needy at WR, yet even they didn't want him. If you couldn't make NE last year at WR, you probably can't make WR on any NFL team.

I jus believe Lloyd needs to show up on the stat charts this year.

I think he has the talent, he's just got to go out their and prove it this year, If he don't,,, I will start harping at the FO for trading draft picks and wasting money.

I'm not sure what you mean. I read the Chiefs "took a shot" with him in January - that is, gave him a workout, during which he posted a poor 40 time - and declined to sign him/invite him to camp. By saying they failed to take a shot with them, I'm guessing you mean they declined to offer him a contract, though they did give him a workout.

I'll admit to not knowing that, I had been operating under the mistaken assumption they'd declined to even look at him, but it still doesn't bode well for his chances in the league.

I just find it hard to believe that a WR picked #2 overall in the 2003 draft, has no talent. He may not be that goto #1 receiver, but how could everyone be that wrong. I just can't help but think that some team can find a way to make this work, at least as a #2-3 possession receiver. What he needs is a kick in the xxx.

Look at the write up on him comming out of college.

Positives: He has a rare combination of size, speed, receiving skills and athletic ability with a great future. Is a vertical receiver who will not be caught from behind. His hands are outstanding and athletic ability is exceptional. Great leaper. His speed is deceptive, much like that of Marvin Harrison, and Rogers is never really covered. Had a streak of 13 consecutive games with a touchdown. Can pluck and snatch and make the one-handed catch. Makes difficult catches look easy. Extends and goes up for the ball. Outmuscles defenders. Sells his routes. Aggressive. Willing blocker. Gets separation and shows make-you-miss. Has beaten the nation's best corners and really shows up in big games.

Summary: Top-five pick who has the ability and athleticism to dominate at the next level. Shows the playmaking ability of Andre Rison and better speed and consistency than Plaxico Burress. Not as fast as Randy Moss, but is more reliable and a better person.

Exactly. Heck, thinking about it, the fact they actually looked at him, and then failed to sign him suggests something even worse, as he was actually given a shot, and failed to earn even a camp invite.

If you're good enough to get drafted in any round, you've clearly got talent, but to be good at this level, you're going to have to put a little effort into it also. If you read about great athletes in any sport, most of them also had supreme work ethics. Art Monk did, Michael Jordan did, etc. Some guys have such immense talent at an early age that they get lazy, because they've gotten by in high school and college on talent alone, without actually having to try that hard. That won't cut it in the pros.

I wasn't going to get into this, because I wan't Lloyd to show up this year, but here goes.

These other teams didn't bring him in, well that may not mean he don't have talent. It all depends on what the other teams were looking for. Maybe they already have a tall guy and was looking for a Santana Moss type, and knew right away he wasn't that type of guy. Or maybe they were looking for a stand out T.O. type and could tell he wasn't that type of guy.

So, just because these teams didn't sign him does NOT mean anything.

We did give Pinky a chance. He can't be worse than that guy.
