Hes god awful and im sick of it. Theres no defense of this guy at ALL . If you defend him you have never played a down of organized of football or you have played and might have taken one too many head blows...Hes done...absolutely cooked..
1. he looked awful in the Ravens scrimmage
2. he looked awful in preaseason game #1
# he looked awful ALL OF LAST YEAR
We need that cap space BADLY!..We need a true guard..Its absurd were paying starter money to 2 qb's and back up money to our 3rd....
Please Coach Joe cut this guy...Coach Al has to win this one...Todd should be our #2...
Does anyone know the cap hit we take for cutting this religious, great guy scrub.

Perhaps the author has a Man Crush on Collins...
My opinion? 6 of Brunell, half a dozen of Collins...
If Campbell: a. does not pan out, and/or b. goes down, our heroes are screwed. End of story.
PS... I could be wrong, but I believe we save no cap space if Brunell leaves right now...

Agreed. After Brunell restructured this past off season I am sure keeping him won't cost anymore than sending him packing. Like it or not he is here at least one more season.

Agreed.....but at least bump is arse down to 3 QB instead of 2nd and allow either Collins to get in some more snaps to be better prepared in case or Palmer to start getting experience.
Funny story....a friend who is a skins fan told me he was pissed that the skins didn't take Quinn. I thought he was nuts at the time but it would have been a good insurance policy to get a guy like him in case things with Campbell do not work out or he goes down. THIS IS NOT A KNOCK AGAINST CAMPBELL. Just a in case he goes down or doesn't work out we have who?

Mancrush??...Brunell is a disgrace..OUTRIGHT!......Campbell will be fine . you dont need Joe Montana to get to the SB this day in age..IE: Rex Grossman....We just need to get better as a team to support JC...Heck if our defense didnt impersonate blocking sleds the last 7 games last year JC could have been 6-1 or 5-2 as a starter
Everyone does realize that if Brunell doesnt pick it up in the next 2-3 weeks(which i doubt given his washed up skills and lack of "balls" to throw downfield) we restructured our #3 QB'S contract..possibly a first in NFL history
I'm stating all this because given the red flags our O-LINE have posted we one play..I repeat --ONE PLAY away from this mutant taking the field and torturing our lives once again...I want to move on..Im tired of his face, im tired of swing passes, im tired of his bad mechanics due to various injuries. im tired of checkdowns...
He takes no chances because he knows hes washed up..
You poker players would understand this analogy
You cant win a poker tournament by not betting..If Brunell played poker he would be blinded out in 1 hour but brag to everyone he lasted that long .
GOD SPEED JC!!!

There's nothing negative about Brunell that I haven't already said a thousand times. Gibbs has made an absolute spectacle of himself because of his ludicrous ongoing evaluation of MB. It's as bad as Spurrier's infatuation with Danny Awful. The irony of having the same misjudgment about the QB slot for the better part of a decade now has been almost more than an old man like me to take. Never in my life have I seen such a prolonged absurdity. Spurrier's commitment to Awful was a national joke, only to be topped by Gibb's commitment to Brunell.

At this point ..JC and Collins should get all the snaps and Jordan should get the left overs...Brunell can get water for Gibbs on sideline when he gets thirsty..Anything less than this and we are mismanging the team IMO. Because Collins at least gives us fighting chance but he needs as much reps as possible....if Disaster strikes....

I don't think we've exhausted any other topic as much as this one, and still there are those who truly believe in Brunell and that he is a quality starter or quality backup, I'm saying he's neither for the simple fact that he wasn't a physical specimen when he was in his prime! now about 10 years out of that he's too slow, too weak, incapable of deep stuff and the list goes on, honestly we might as well have Doug Flutie and Flutie would be an improvement.

I'll change my mind when he shows he's capable of making the throws this, or any NFL offense, requires to be completely successful.
It's a giant compromise to leave stuff out because the QB can't pull that particular play off.

I'll change my mind when he shows he knows what he is doing by not killing all the timeouts before the 4th quarter.

He did look like he's over the hill, but keep in mind, Palmer will likely spend the year on the Practice Squad....so we would still need 3 QB's....

We all have been singing this same song for a couple years now. He only has one year left. So just endure one more year. We have spent countless hours on this same topic. He does provide valuable knowledge, it is just that he is past his prime now. He was once a very good quarterback in the Jacksonville days, he also led us to one playoff birth and playoff win. Jason Campbell is our starter now, Brunell has helped JC along, this last year of Brunells contract he can still help JC through some of the ups and downs he will and I repeat WIll! experience this first full year as starter. So soon enough he will be gone only one season.

If you don't know what the cap hit would be, how can you possibly state before that, that 'we need the cap space'?
if we were to cut Mark, we'd have to pay the entire amount that's left on the bonus money in his contract - since we're post june 1st, it would come in the form of DEAD cap next year... we've already paid his portion for this year (can't get that back either).
And where would this magical starting guard come from? Are you going to pluck him out of thin air?
Are you aware that we have enough cap money to sign someone WITHOUT letting Brunell go and eating his bonus money?
... and we haven't yet... because this magical starting guard isn't out there... they're all on rosters already.
Hate on Brunell all you like, but if the logic is that we should cut him, eat the cap (this year AND next), sign a starting guard with the 'fictionally created' cap, and then put Collins in Brunell's place - then to me that just sounds like a case of the grass always seeming greener on the other side.

Herohamo has it right - the guy (MB) is going to be 2nd QB this season - fact. Unless his knee goes completely. Todd Collins is suddenly flavour of the day after one cameo pre-season game. If Todd Collins shows that form all throuth the pre-season matches maybe we`ll have something to consider but I`ve never heard anybody say anything good about him before Saturday. Mark Brunells best days are long gone but we just can`t cut him now, take the cap hit and somehow fool ourselves that we are a better team with TC backing up.

Exactly. I was really surprised at the sudden Collins-love-surge on THN. . .I mean, really, it's still Todd Collins!

The man puts together one decent looking drive and some people are ready to start him before Campbell!

If anyone goes it would be Collins to make room for Palmer. I never liked Collins going all the way back to his Michigan days. One drive against a 4th string defense isn't a reason to change the whole roster. I am not a Brunell fan, however i do have more faith in him than Collins. Plus BOSS is right, if there was a guard out there we would have added him already. We have what we have and I believe it is enough to win with.

I think the fact that Collins HASN'T given us so much material to hate him for and Brunell has could be a part of it. And noone said anything about starting benching JC for Collins... jesus, exaggerate much?

You are forgetting last year's preseason, which, prior to Saturday, was all that we got to see of Collins in action. Don't get me wrong, I'm no hater of
any Redskin, but Collins has had
one good drive in his entire time in D.C. And people are ready to crown him as a champion. . .I say, Collins was who we thought he was!

VetSkinsFan wrote:And noone said anything about starting benching JC for Collins... jesus, exaggerate much?
I wish that I was exaggerating, but I'm not making that up. Go and check the threads surrounding the scrimmage. I agree with you that it's a ridiculous plan, but, hey, this is THN. . .no one said it has to be rational all the time!

I agree with MezzSkin, and here are some other moves I think will work:
1) Cut Brunell. Screw the cap. Just cut him.
2) Bench Campbell. His performance in pre-season was just awful. Joe made another bad choice at QB. Clearly he's over the hill, and can't manage personnel -- 3 SB trophies be damned.
3) Promote Collins to Starter. The way he manhandled Tennessee's third string clearly proves that he's hitting his peak after a decade of being a journeyman QB, and he's finally found a place to start in Washington.
Cutting Brunell is only the beginning. Lets apply these other moves, and we will be Super Bowl bound. Believe me, since I believe MezzSkin.

There have to be better options than either Collins or MB at #2 aren't there??

Err, there's a lot of tension/sarcasm going on here...
Here's what I think:
JC looked ok, but obviously missed Samuels and needs to be more aware of incoming defenders.
Brunell looked like his normal self - but why does he insist on calling timeouts all the time?
Collins looked good enough against a group of defenders that probably won't see the field this season.
All in all, Brunell needs to go sooner than later, but considering our other options, I'd still rather see MB come in as a backup in a real game than anyone else at this point.
By the way, does anyone else feel like MB for us is about the exact equivalent of Brad Johnson backing up for the Pukes?
