Portis wants to be a Redskin

Portis wants money. He has said he wants to be "paid what he is worth". Dan Snyder is the man that will do just that. Every player in the NFL knows that Snyder is the MAN to play for. Portis is drooling right now.
The Broncos were not paying Portis his worth, $300,000 for a top 5 running back???
Hasta Lavista Champ....Hello Portis.
Portis will get his 2000 yard season in Washington. Portis will open up the pass for Coles and Gardner.
This is a great trade!
I hope it turns out Bailey and 2nd round pick for Portis and 3rd round pick. That is fair.
Offense 2004:
QB: Ramsey/Brunell
RB: Portis/Betts
FB: Cartwright
WR: Coles
WR: Gardner
WR: McCants
TE: Kleinsasser (Vikings)
OT: Samuels
OT: Jansen
OG: Thomas
OG: Dockery
C: Woody (Patriots)
WOWZERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Portis loves attention. He is a TV ham. What other team gets as much attention as the Skins in the media? This is a great fit. Do it Vinny, Do it Snyder.

And if there was no such thing as a salary cap, that might all be possible bud.
Well unless we want to field the same defensive line we did last year.

Boss, I am heading over to Redskin Park to fix Bruce Smith's wheel chair. I have a feeling it is broken since it has taken his old arse so long to get out of the building.
Once Smith, and some of the makeshift D-Linemen from last year clear out we will be well under the cap. Portis' deal will be a long contract so it will be spread out.
I say get Sean Taylor w/ #5 or trade down and get Harris or Starks....grab a DE and Ted Washington and a modest CB (Springs or Winfield) and we are good to go!

you'll get no argument from me on Taylor... garbbing a DE and a DT is not going to be small potatoes my friend... Snyder likes sexy big name picks... you can guarantee one of those positions will get a big name... kearse will cost... no matter what... Sapp will cost... no matter what... whoever replaces bailey will cost 3 mil...
The #5 pick will get $20-$30 mil over 7 years more than likely.
... it all adds up man.

Portis will not have the same effect with the Skins as he had with Denver.
Different lines, Differnt Schemes and the NFC East Defense are far better then what he is used to.

Shut it Gambit,
you are just bothered that Jerry Jones has been replaced by Dan Snyder as the new mover and shaker in the NFL.
It is ok, we all know the Cowboy's RB problems.
You will probably end up with Corey Dillon and he will cry all season until LaVar breaks his neck in the first Cowboy/Skins game in 2004.
Portis will rock in DC, defenses will not know what to do...cover Coles and Gardner or stack the box to stop Portis! NFC East defense? The Eagles have been dismantled, the Giants suck, and the Cowboys will be lunch to a Ramsey/Brunell/Portis/Coles/Gardner squad.
Don't forget, Gibbs offense will take on any defense that comes at us. Portis has packed his bags. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I bet the cowgirls would want Portis in a heartbeat.Yes Cowboys it is a new day in redskins park.cowboys need a rb,qb,wr, and some oline too.How about a new offense would be easier to list than all those positions.Their def is set.no changes need with those animals.I would think ole billy would want Mark B and Portis

Yeah right...lol lets see Jerry Jones 3 superbowls Daniel Synder still searching for his first NFC EAST CHAMPIONSHIP.
MOVER AND SHAKER.....lol.....son you dont know what a mover and shaker is. Jerry Jones and Al Davis are the reasons that the good ole boys in the NFL ownership network can stomach little Danny Synder.

Yes, Jerry Jones is the OG mover and shaker. But what has he done since Dan Snyder came in?
Drafted Quincy Carter?
Brought Parcells out of retirement?
Well Snyder, trumps him.
Snyder drafted Ramsey.
Snyder brought Gibbs out of retirement.
NOW SNYDER IS GOING FOR A RB and Jerry Jones will end up with Corey Dillon.
hahahaha
Jerry Jones and Al Davis???????????
3 words Gambit: JOHN KENT COOKE
He is the orginal. He got Gibbs anyone he wanted. He had Congress in the owners box on Sundays. Snyder idolized Cooke and is now giving Gibbs anything he wants just like Cooke did.
Gambit, don't want to get off topic...since this post is about Portis probably being happy about being a Redskin (running offense, huge stadium, best marketing, and $$$$$$$$$$$$).
But I am sure the Cowboys will get Dillon or Duce or Emmit (after the Cardinals CUT HIM).

All this yakity yak.........and you guys still dont see what is going on. Who was the GM when Gibbs was around, Who is the GM now. If it is Gibbs who qualified Gibbs as a GM after being out of the league for so long.
Dallas will have our running back. And a veteran QB.......and maybe someother things that the Skins wont be able to deal with.
Trust me we have 16mill to play with and all of our players signed.

Hot damn, this is the kind of excitement I like to see surrounding the Redskins. What do you call a 5'11, 210 pro Bowl running back with sub 4.5 speed? Trung Candidate with talent.

I have to keep reminding myself the trade hasn't actually happened. But rest assured Clinton Portis will join the Redskins franchise on my PS2 tonight.

I have to admit I haven't see Portis run much, except for on the highlights and it's always long runs made possible by the huge gaping holes made by the O-Line. It is strictly speed or is he a power runner too? The NFC East is smash-mouth football...

I hope we dont give up a second rounder that would be too much

I have watched every CLinton Portis game.
He is a monster. Smallish back that runs hard.
He can get tough yards, and then bounce out to the flats.
One thing he improved on last season was getting lower.
Madden even pointed out how it almost looks like he is crawling, he gets so low. LB's can't tackle him easily.
He is very fast and gets up after hard hits.
He is cocky, but he loves the game...not a TO or Keyshaun personality.
This guy is the real deal. No joke.
He also has good hands and Barry Sanders type cuts and spins.
If you turn on Sporting News radio it is all they are talking about.
They are not talking about Champ...all the talk is about Portis.

so if this trade happens, the broncos end up with champ AND c.perry/g.jones!!!!????
with the 2nd rnder, or 3rd rnder, we are on the losing end of this deal.
consider:
1.denver backs always do well (remains to be seen how well they do outside of Shannahanville)
2. Portis will cost just as much, if not more than baily, which spells bye bye to Kearse and any other top flight FA DL
3. Add to our list of needs a cb, to go with a whole new DL, maybe a safety, and a C; then notice we'll have like 3 picks total in the draft in '04.
in conclusion, a straight up swap, if all other possibilites have been exhausted (emphasis on ALL others), is an ok deal I guess. Running backs are not hard to draft past the 1st rnd (see Portis, S. Davis, T. Davis), and top corners are very difficult to replace. So i suggest we wait till the smoke clears and keep our pants on before we declare this a great trade and Snyder a great gm/owner.

He carried the ball 290 times on a team that had no passing game to speak of so even if the offensive line deserves a hunk of the credit, Portis did the bulk of the work. This is especially salient when you consider the Broncos only topped 100 yards rushing once in the 4 games Portis missed at that was against the Colts who are 20th in the NFL against the run. Without Portis the Broncos failed to top 100 yards against Oakland, the league's worst rushing defense last year. Any back averaging 5.5 yards a carry is rushing behind a good line but it wasn't too long ago that the Redskins offensive line was pretty good at run blocking, something they did not do much of last year.
