Cooley v. Taylor

Like all of you, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the Redskins offer both Chris Cooley and Sean Taylor big contracts so they both stay in D.C. for many many years to come.

My question to all of you is this: If the Redskins were only willing to sign one of the two players to a long-term deal (and let the other one test free agency), which player would you rather keep?

Cooley or Taylor?

I refuse to vote in this poll, both need to stay.

You cannot get rid of one of the most talented TE's in the league. We're not even using his full potential yet IMHO!!

You cannot create such a safety tandem and then let one of them go. That's insane!

Springs will be gone next year, his money goes to Taylor. Smoot and Rogers start. We have a full hand of draft picks, we draft a good DB to groom in the latter rounds. The end.

lol

Jesus people...I understand, I really do! We want BOTH to stay! That goes without saying!

My question is - if they both won't stay....who do you want?

Let's not play the "denial" game. Let's just answer the question, shall we?

Taylor's just starting the second half of his contract and we're already worrying about whether he stays or not? The guy is signed through 2010.

Personally, I can't answer which one of the two I would want in 2010, and I don't know why I'd bother worrying about it much right now... an awful lot can happen in 3 seasons. I will say that I am not sure that either would WANT to stay if they haven't experienced any success in D.C. by then.

And people... don't play the 'denial' game when someone is already playing the 'what if' game. Where are your manners? JH is quite obviously only interested in people that are serious about his pole.

That's vaguely obscene - shouldn't it be in Smack? Now if we were talking about his poll, it would be different.

Defense wins championships. Adios Cooley!*

*Should this scenario ever play out.

They both need to stay, we have our core Redskins, time to add new Redskins via the draft, so we can afford to keep both of them.

I was just trying to have a little fun. The board needs a little levity now and again... and 9/10 of them would have never noticed a thing.

I meant no harm, I'm an equal opporunity antagonist and JH knows that... hopefully.

Boss's double entendre notwithstanding, I really have no interest in JH's "pole".

That was just wrong, BH...

Oh, I got it completely. Maybe I should've added a  just to be clear. I just felt the need to highlight it, just in case some missed it.

I'll play along and vote Taylor. I really think he can become one of the best to play his position if he matures mentally to the point where his knowledge matches his ability.

I love Cooley's game, but I don't think that he is one of the greatest TE's ever. He's definitely one of the best in the game now, IMO, but Taylor is a rare specimen...while Cooley is a very good player.

I went the opposite. Taylor has the potential to be one of the very best, and so does Cooley. The difference IMO is that you can more easily shift your defense around to cover down on a weak spot than your receiving corps.

I can't vote. Perhaps if, in 2 years, you asked the same question about Landry vs. Taylor I would be able to answer. But because both players have such a potentially huge presence on opposite sides of the field, I think it would be nearly impossible to determine who would be of more value on an individual basis.

I had to go Taylor. I love Cooley but to me a tight end is more of a luxury. Safety is a necessary part of a dominant defense. Taylor is not only a good safety he is among the best in the league. Cooley is in the top ten, Taylor is in the top three Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, Sean taylor and Brian Dawkins.

Either way I dont think we have to worry for now.

Sorry...I thought it was Cooley vs Charley Talyor.

I saw drop the rest of the QBs (JC then AREl on depth chart) and keep both of them!
