I saw the depth chart, and yes i know there will be changes but I think Smoot should start I know he didnt do anything in Minn. but I also didnt watch him that much, but watching Rogers he played really poorly last year so....

Rodgers missed what, 10 interceptions last year? Well, I think he'll have a better year and grab at least 6 or 7 of those this time. At least I hope...

Smoot should start, he's going to create INT's Rogers can't.
* wishes he saved his smoot avatar.

I dont know that I would say Rogers played really poorly last year.. he was picked on an awful lot and actually held his own .. his lack of interceptions is reason for concern but he worked with some of the greats at CB this offseason by the names of Darrell Green and Prime Time to improve and he has the talent he just needs to put it together and I believe he will here in year 3
I would love to see Smoot and Rogers both step up to the point where they could push the aging Springs to Nickel.. but unless they show drastic improvement I dont see it

Look at the stats man..... Last year Rogers had 16 Pass Def Smoots never had that many , plus, look athe tackles 67 and again Smoot has never matched that. Smoot has had more INTs in the past. Which is what brings me to my next point.. Stats aren't everything, factors such as age and size make a difference. As they are about the same size they are close. But I still Pick Rogers. Im seeing a pattern with Smoot. Starting back in 2003 he had 4INTs ......then the next year he had 3INTs....then the next year........2INTs......and the next....you guessed it..1INTs............So falling in line here he would have a big ZERO this year. And yes, we know he was with the Vikes but the fall off started in 03. And whos to say, he will get back to his 2003 form? Rogers can and will improve IMO. He has yet to reach his full potential, but Smoot has already been there.
I think Smoot is Starting caliper, and Im glad to have him for depth, but im not sold Smoot has beat out anyone for the starting job.

I would have to say Rogers should start unless Smoot has knocked him off by having an exceptional, outstanding camp.
Rogers should be given the chance to prove that last year was just a sophomore adjusting to the main role. (Since Springs was injured) I think this year may be his breakout season...

It's easier to make more tackles when the guy you are covering is catching passes. I know that Springs is on the other side, but I beleive teams would have thrown at him regardless of the other cornerback. He wasn't impressive last year. I still can't get out of my head the play last year when he was burned deep but the reciever dropped the ball, and Rogers started celebrating like he had made a play on the ball. I also remember Smoot doing an interview this offseason on redskins.com and Rogers coming over and running off at the mouth about his accomplishments in college. He needs to realize those accomplishments didn't benefit the Skins, they are in the past, and he needs to step his game up. Just my opinion though.

every corner gets beat in the NFL.. doesnt matter who they are so to be worried about seeing Rogers get beat is a non issue.. Smoot hasnt shown anything in the last 2 years (hopefully it was because of the system) so to say hes better than Rogers is a bit much.. camp and preseason will work this debate out.. I dont see Rogers losing his spot though

According to your theory and your stats... Rogers should have 0 INT's too! He's had 2 in 05, 1 and 06... Heck! Smoot is already 1 ahead from my count cus he caught one in the scrimmage against McNair.

Exactly

Sooooo...
Still though, Why would Smoot be better?? Because of what he did 3 or 4 years ago??

It don't count when McNair does it on purpose...Duh...

Thats what I'm basing it on. I expect Smoot to rebound and pick up where he left off.
IMO, I believe that Smoot is the faster DB. I believe that he is better at forgetting his mistakes and moving on. I feel that he catches better than Rogers. I think that his enthusiasm needs to be on the field as much as possible.
I'm not knocking Rogers, I just prefer Smoot. They're both good guys.

Awwww come on.... A pick is a pick, he made the play. You can't take that away from him. Your just mad cus I busted up your theory. You said Smoot wouldn't have any picks and he's already snatching balls from opposing QB's and your expectations contradict your theory in regards to Rogers.

Ohh I see. He really missed us in Washington and was saveing it all for when he comes back.

jk

McNair had to demonstrate for the young guys, how NOT the throw the ball....
Thats all........he was all like "watch this one...this is real easy to do in the NFL so watch closely and make sure you don't do this."
Plus that was preseason dude.
"Your just mad cus I busted up your theory"...........maybe.

Rodgers has earned the nood as starter. It's a nice option to have Smoot, for both depth and experience for the long haul. I remember the outstanding plays Smoot made before he left, but he is a liability against the run, and Rodgers has a tremendous upside, let's give him a chance ..... This battle will play itself out, a little competion never hurt anybody....

I think both players will play quite a bit of football this year. I think it's Rogers' job to lose, but Fred is gonna be nipping at his heels the whole way.
... or maybe we should say yipping in Smoot's case.
Hopefully both of them play well enough that you can get Springs occasional rest as well.

Well I will say this. Seeing Smoot as his best and Rogers at his best I would take Smoot. Who knows where they will be now but whomever is best i don't mind who start. I just don't see a great potential in Rogers.

This is actually a good problem to have. We really needed a nickel back, now we have one, a solid one at that.
My first thought was give the job to Smoot being that Rogers has struggled these two years. Now after the off season, he has taken lessons from Darrell Green and Prime time, also factor in Rogers youth and talent. I would have to go with Carlos Rogers as starter on game one through three, as a trial to see how he does. Smoot will see plenty of playing time though.
GW has plenty of time to see both of these guys play anyhow, he will make a descision based on who he thinks is the better of the two. I am hoping Rogers finally puts it all together and becomes an elite corner in this league. Smoot on the other hand has always been solid with the Redskins, so I trust him a whole lot, he will be primed to take over if Rogers happens to falter.

There is no doubt in my mind that Smoot will be the #2 come opening day. He might even be the #1 (Who knows if Springs will be healthy by then).

1. dont base anythingon Smoots past Redskins playing
2. Rogers should be the #2 if Springs is not healthy
3. Draft a CB next year as SS will be hurt and either CR or FS will not be that great this year
