I went on the EA Sports Site and they had the Redskins screens on the front page :

I thought they looked alright.

They look ok. I haven't really seen any big boost in the Graphics in a couple of years. I was hoping for more I guess. But hey its madden and Im addicted, so I have to buy it.
That was cool seeing Landry in uniform!

We traditionally keep Madden threads in here... How do I know? Cus I have had plenty of mine moved in the past.
1. The shots look terrible but I know it'll look better in game.
2. I can't wait to play this.
3. NFL2k has EA all up tight. I saw a quote from one of the higher ups...
This best thing that could happen is for EA to lose exclusivity.

I am very disapointed in the NCAA 08 version for the PS3 and am bracing myself for madden which I expect the same result.

I have Madden 08 pre-ordered for my PS3.

I wonder how much different the graphics are gonna be between PS2 and PS3. I have a nice LCD I play on, but I can't seem to justify blowing that much on a game system. Maybe if Blu-Ray positively comes out on top, but until then, I'm stuck with PS2.
I'm scared to see how the 'skins are rated. I'll still check it out though. Franchising you can pretty much tailor your team after the 1st 3 years thru training camps/wins/ect.

Has anyone played the NFL2k game? I might go rent it. Madden definitely needs competition out there. Otherwise, they would not have any need to improve the game. Hopefully u r right and the game will look better than the screen shots. And maybe they have done some tweaking of game mechanics, Like at times when I run through a guy as if I were a ghost when he is going to tackle me, and the person Im playing says
" Your sooooo cheating, whats that code you put in???"

The PS3 version of Madden 08 is inferior to the 360 version. 60 FPS > 30 FPS. Just a shoddy effort on EA's part. Not using the SKU's properly at this point of the PS3's life is stupid.
This is the exact reason the NFL needs to just allow both VC and EA to use the liscense.

Stupid...maybe but it is the economic reality. No 3rd party software dev. is going to natively develop a game on each platform and the 360 has the market share hands down. This is the bane of the PS3's existence. So most devlopers are not going to ever use the SKU's properly b/c there is no incentive to do so. They will make just as much money porting the game to PS3 from 360 so there is very little incentive to develop specifically for the PS3.

I'd agree if we were talking about some small upstart dev house in the bowels of the earth.
But we're not, we're talkin bout the biggest developer in gaming, there's no excuse after 4 years of having dev. kits and 2 iterations of the game. It's just lazy.
This isn't a new IP, this is Madden with NO NEW FEATURES. The same models are being used, the same physics and they're just reintroducing the same features that were in the previous gen games. Which shows how they're just charging $60 for updated rosters almost every year.
Now, I don't own a PS3. I have a 360 so I'm not biased.
But the games developed for the PS3 in mind have simply destroyed their 360 opposition.
GT5 just killed PGR4 and Forza2.
Ratchet and Clank
Killzone 2 shocked everyone in that it compares to the CG demo 2 years ago.

Eh. PS3 should be alot better for the extra dough it costs. I think that the X360 is a better deal right now. Anyway they are both cool systems.
I haven't bought Madden in 2 years because I have been so disappointed with their effort on the new consoles. Madden 06 was a joke on the 360 and 07 wasn't much better. I totally agree that they have been loafing because of the license. I refuse to spend money on Madden anymore because their last decent effort was 06 on the XBOX/PS2. Why would I want to buy a more expensive game with fewer features?
NFL 2K8 is fun. Creating a team from the "legends" is addicting and it brings a fresh dynamic to the game. Only thing you start to wish for is more legends like Art Monk, Darrell Green, Sonny Jurgenson, Riggo...you get my drift.

The game does have Sammy Baugh, Joe T, Gary Clark, Ricky Sanders, Russ Grimm, Joe Jacoby, Jim Lachey, Charley Taylor, Dexter Manley, and a few one year Redskin wonders like Deacon Jones, Carl Banks among a few others. (I have made a decent look a like Skins team with Skin Legends.)
Is it better than Madden? It is better than the current 360 versions by far. Gameplay is great. Same wonderful 2K fluidity. Defense swarms and reaches for tackles. The running game seems spot on...you really have to follow your blocks and look for holes. Only real problem on gameplay is the dropped easy interceptions (problem in 2K5), the lack of any blocking on a punt return (Hmmm on 2nd thought maybe that is realistic...), and the kicking mechanic (big learning curve as you have to use the right stick).
Coulda also done better with the announcers and the graphics. A lot of the announcing was recycled from 2K5 and I was slightly disappointed with the graphics...for a series renowned for realistic graphics I felt they could have pushed the pixels a bit more. It still looks better than what EA has put out. I would encourage a rent for anyone who is thinking about trying a non-madden football game as this one is fun and addicting. (I will rent Madden 08 when it comes out as well just to see if they have actually put any effort into it this year...)

Comparably equipped...the 360 is more money.
I kicked out $400 for the premium system.
$100 for wifi
$50 a year for Live.
$200 is you get the HD drive.
PS3 gives you all that for $600. Plus their online service (although not as good) is free. BLuRay is the leading candidate for next gen media and you can swap in ANY HDD you want and aren't limited to proprietary formats.

Video Game consoles are really for Video games, though. From that standpoint one can argue that the 360 wins. Better price, more games, comparable graphics. For 300 less if you buy the Core system. And the Blu-Ray is nice but it won't upconvert. Sony online is a joke compared to Live.
Sony also screwed up on their exclusives. Assassin's Creed and GTA are only two that were supposed to be Sony exclusives. So there is little incentive for a 360 owner to buy a PS3...then again maybe Lair will be the must have GOTY, who knows.
Like I said though both systems are great...problem is Sony came in late and priced alot of people out. You can piecemeal it with the XBOX (anyone who buys the HDDVD accessory has got to be nuts, though) so it doesn't hurt the wallet too much. Now all that aside would I buy a PS3 if I had $600 to spare? Heck yeah cause I am a rabid gamer.
Aww forget it just buy a Wii.

Bluray, is NOT just for movies.
I suppose you have not read about Rockstar not being able to fit GTA on the Xbox's DVD? Look at GT5 and how the textures totally kill Forza and PGR because they have a crap load of space to utilize.
I agree with a lot of your points but MS dropped the ball with using DVD. They also hurt us as gamer by making the tard pack, oops I meant core pack. HDD's should be a standard so that developers can use the HDD for texture caching. Try to run Oblivion on a core system and not want to throw it out the window.
Plus 360's are failing like hot cakes with the 3 rings of death. Thankfully my launch system is still cooking...no pun intended.
The Wii is killing both of them but Sony still can take MS's spot, especially with all the bad press about shoddy consoles.

I'll probably pick up Madden '08 but not sure if it'll be for my PS2 or the Wii. I know the Wii's graphics can't hang with the PS3 or 360 but what about the PS2?

Just get a 360/PS3, it's a totally different game on the next gen systems. I played a PS2 game of Madden a few weeks back and was disgusted by it. LOL

The core system isn't any different from the Premium. (I own the core...I was last in line on launch day

...and have played on the premium and they both run the same.) The premium just came with more stuff and fancy "chrome" highlights. I totally agree with them dropping the ball on the DVD though. But that's my point. 360 is better at this particular moment in time...Sony you are buying for future potential...especially if you already own a 360. Sony should eventually crush the 360 graphics wise on all games. (if that doesn't happen it will be a travesty.) But right now only racing games (which I'm not a fan of) have better graphics. Here ia a fairly objective comparison:
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6171831/index.html?tag=result;title;0#
And you're right I didn't hear about the GTA problem. Interesting...I'm gonna have to check that info out more.
Oh and Kentucky I would wait and see what the reviews say. This is a great site for game reviews:

No, the core does NOT come with a HDD. That is why MS doesn't (as of now) allow developers to make games that only work on the systems equipped with a HDD. That was retarded on MS's part, especially since the original Xbox came with a HDD.
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-882224035835-Xbox-Core-System/dp/B000B43OXUMaybe you need to play your 360 more if you haven't realized your core system doesn't have a HDD.
Developers of PGR4 wrote:You won't see different times of day per city because this involves recreating all the textures again (one for day and one for night). Whilst this wasn't a problem for our dev team, it was a problem fitting all this data onto a single DVD. So we've worked around the problem by providing different lighting models per city. For example, Macau is always in the daytime, but if you play it during a storm everything looks darker and more foreboding. If you play during a blizzard then things are slightly tinged blue and everything seems more frozen. Of course, playing this track in sunshine will make everything appear bright and yellowy.

So that next gen format you said wasn't needed... It appears that it is needed for the storage. But I bet you said that DVD wasn't needed when the PS2 came out. If you want HD gaming, you need the extra storage for the huge textures.
And I stand by my point that a comparably equipped 360 costs just as much as a PS3.

No need to be rude. I believe I said the premium comes with more "stuff" as well. I thought you were talking about an equipped Core system not one right out of the box. I bought the HDD separately.
And the only thing we actually disagree on is whether the 360 is a better system to own
at the current time. I think that the PS3 will be a better system in the long run...I have already stated that...but it isn't up to its full potential atm.
I also never said that a comparably equipped 360 didn't cost as much. I said it was easier for consumers to spend the money when they want to piecemeal it.
All that being said if the PS3 came out first it would probably have wiped the floor with the 360...but it didn't and is now playing catch up. I don't even know why we are debating anyway...it's really a moot point since we basically agree that the PS3 is the better system and both of us are 360 owners who wish we had enough dough to pony up for the PS3 as well.

I have not bought Madden for the 360 since 06, and it sucked just like all the other Maddens.
GTA is the lamest franchise ever, the game sucks, good show for Sony picking that one up, at least it might get some of the pre teens off Xbox Live:roll:
The PS3 is crap, unless you bought it for the Blu ray drive. Their "live" system is downright horrible and slower than my 1993 56K dial up. The controllers on the PS3 suck compared to the 360 too. My friend bought a PS3 and doesn't touch it unless its for Blue Ray, still games 99% of the time on the 360.
I still have my launch 360 to (knocking on wood) but have had many friends have one give up on them. At least MS is standing behind the problem and giving everyone a 3 year warranty although that is no excuse for such poor manufacturing. Your MS, the richest company in the world, make a quality product Bill!
I typically play only FPS and racing games so the 360 works best for me and even though you have to pay for Xbox live it is worth every penny, especially compared to Sony's portal.
The fact is not only is EA not developing for Sony, 95% of other game studios aren't either! So if you have a PS3, you will get ported games primarily. Unless you are a GTA fan, and if that is the case I am glad your on a PS3 for the future.

Am I the only PC Gamer on these boards? I have been contemplating buying either a 360 or PS3 but I have not for a few reasons. Like what is stated in other posts, Microsoft has manufacturing issues and PS3 is just overhyped to this point. I want something with substance and I do not see it from Sony or Microsoft. Yes, Gaming PC's cost a lot more but I can do a lot of different things with a PC so its more than just a gaming machine for me. Until I see some games coming out for one or the other that is console specific, I will not purchase either.
