What to do with this kid? Did you know that he was targeted for 115 passes and yet only caught 58? That is 57 drops... no wonder why they called him 50/50...

If there is a team out there willing to take him, do we dump him for a pick or keep him?

I say we dump him for a pick, Cliff Russell and Taylor Jacobs have got to be atleast as good as Gardner has been and we also have mcants too, I think we could school a 3rd or maybe a second round pick for him while other teams still think he's got potential. So we need to do it this year.

I think Gardner is a good WR. But, if I'm not mistaken, he is scheduled to make over 2 mil this year and he's not that much better (if any at all) than DM or TJ. In fact I think TJ has alot more potential, if he can reach it. McCants is great because of his size and red zone ability...he's a touchdown machine. Like others have mentioned, I was thoroughly impressed with Scott Cloman last summer. I think Coles, McCants, Jacobs could be the top three with Russell and Cloman battling for the fourth spot. PJohnson could probably be resigned pretty cheap if we needed another proven wideout to compete.

I don't know if I would cut Gardner simply for cap space. But, I think we should definitely explore trade possibilities. Maybe he would make all the difference in nudging Detroit (they need another WR) to give up some high picks in the ----- sweepstakes.(I am tired of seeing #24's name in every thread) :D

When you say targeted for 115 and only caught 58, is the remaining 57 all drops, or does that include bad throws, tipped balls, etc.?

It would have to be a good player.
I like Gardner, but he does drop too many balls.
I think McCants is capable of being a 2, especially in Gibbs offense.

I like Gardner, he didn't have 57 dropped balls. I'm pretty sure if you look up the stats Coles has more dropped balls. He's not bad, he's had a different QB throwing to him every week, that has to effect your performance.

He drops a lot of passes in my XBOX ESPN Football game as well. I think I will trade him.

I like Gardner alot, and I've always felt that it's important to a team's success to have a speed reciever (Coles) and a physical, possesion reciever (Gardner)...

I don't want to give up on Rod just yet, but if he makes too much money, I think Jacobs has some skills :-\

He didn't drop 57 balls, the number is probably not even, if half that. That total shows how many of the passes Ramsey and Timmy H intended for Rod G weren't completed. That means, if it was thrown to far, batted down at the line, knocked away by a CB, it will show up.

He may have dropped 25 passes at the most, and he is a very talented wide out. You guys, he is still young, he is our former mid-first round pick, and he has already had a 70 catch, 1000 yard season... We're too quick to want to drop someone. And he is doing it all at a fairly low price for his numbers. We gotta keep him, and somehow get DMAC on the fild more if we can retain him...

I like Gardner and wish we didn't have quite the squeeze on cap space we have this year. To get in some decent linemen will cost money.
Personally, I'd rather sacrifice Gardner for a 1st or good 2nd pick and have Coles, DMAC, Jacobs as our first 3 WR's than have the shambles at DL we had last season.

as I've learned with the Red Sox and Lou Merloni... just because a player is a hometown boy... doesn't mean he's any good :-\

At least we know if Coles gets hurts, we have a guy who has performed as the #1 receiver. He had a pretty good year as the #1 didn't he?

he's a posession receiver who can't catch, DM is much better. Still, you're crazy if you think anyone will give us a 1st or a 2nd rnder for him condisering his pathetic performance last year.

maybe a 3rd rnder, though i might like him as a 3rd wr since c. russell plays like he's never played organized sports before (will be cut) and taylor did NOTHING as 2nd rnd pick wr in a passing offense.

we need another pass-catcher, but if we get a good TE we don't have to get rid of gardner, despite his penchant for dropping balls.

I bet Lou Merloni would be a great slot reciever...
