Sitting here, looking for descent conversation, I turned to the wifey, who fell asleep hours ago on the couch....so i turned to my 2 dogs... but really all that they want to do is lick my feet. So where do i turn for good converstion...
THEHOGS.net (plug, plug)
Though there's been alot of great conversation lately on here, i think we beat the Ramsey,Sexton,Gibbs notrade-trade goobledegop thing to death and basically we know Bailey's going somewhere, we just need to wait for more insight on where?!?!?!?
Soooo to spark conversation i thought... If the SKINS only had a chance to grab one free-agent and you..YES YOU!!! Had the choice of who that would be, well then, tell us who it would be, tell us why he should be in the burgundy and gold next year, why would your guy make the difference on our team....show us that YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT!!!!
I'll give you my opinion later. I don't want my professional (cough cough BS cough

) opinion to influence anyone.
All winners will win the very respectable "BringThePain!" Award (well maybe not respectable yet...BUT ONE DAY!!!!), all losers...well...
they'll be BROUGHT THE PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well if I could only pick one FA.....It would be easy...the most glaring need is DLine...Maybe it's not so easy....DE or DT?....that's the question...I would have to go with Jevon Kearse.
He's young enough to make an impact for a while and he has a history with Gregg Williams. He had his best years under Williams and he could help other players make the transition to GW's philosophy. The main reason we need 'The Freak' is he puts pressure on the QB. Can you imagine lining Lavar up beside JK to blitz? They would definitely Bring The Pain!

I would go with the DT from the Rams - Young, I believe his name is. He plays well against the run from what I can see and from what I have read he can generate a rush up the middle too...

I originally was going to say Charlie Garner, but since I believe we could get by with the backs we have, and since Kearse and Young have been used I'm gunna go with.. ::drumroll::
Deon Grant, safety on Carolina. This would allow us to get DL help in the draft since we would be able to pass on Sean Taylor. This would be important since it would give the Redskins some presence at safety. Grant isnt a huge hitter but he is smart and a good cover man, plus he knows what it's like to be on a Superbowl Team. Also, if we lose Bailey, the straw that holds the secondary together, the secondary will need restructuring, big time.

Of all the players available to us, Brian Young would be the one you would brin in. The guy is okay at clogging up the run, but does very little else. (ala big daddy)... He has only had 1 season with more than 2 sacks, and he has never really not split time with someone else. I also think Leonard Little being next to him, makes him better, and that he would only be another mediocre lineman, along with Martin Chase, and Lional "Jelly" Dalton...
If I could get any FA out there it would be to sign Terrell Owens. Does he have some problems, well yes. But a couple of heart to hearts with Joe Gibbs, and he might just act like the teenage boy trying to act mature all night trying to impress the baby sitter. Can you imagine having Owens and Coles, two of the game's top five of six receivers on the field at the same time. That would mean Rod Gardner would play against a team's third corner, and DMAC would go up against another team's bench warmer.
This is my dream scenario... Bring the pain never said it had to be a legit option, or that we had to stay under the cap...

HoginBlacksburg - Kearse would be my second choice, for all the reasons you stated, but his often injured body scares me a little too much. Valid points though.

skinsfaninroanoke - really haven't heard much on Brian Young, and redskins56 doesn't seem to like him...since your a Big Dawg here at thehog.net ... you can have a second chance of convencing the rest of us why he would be the best guy to bring on, or you can change your mind. Or you can tell me to kiss off because i'm just a piglet

Hail2DaRedskinz - grant might not be a bad option to go after this off-season, but i don't think he would be that player to turn this thing around. ok points - except Deion Sanders, Bruce Smith, Jesse Armstead were all on superbowl teams and that didn't help us any. A for effort though.

redskins56 - i don't know about anybody else, but i think alot of people would agree with me. Terrell Owens would be the worst thing to bring to the SKINS. The guys always been all about himself, even before his days of being the Superstar on 49ers when he was paired with Jerry Rice. He does nothing but tear his team down around him. He's all about himself. Remeber the last guy we brought in who was all about himself...Deion Sanders...all that he did was play one poor year and then took the money and ran. Thanks for the effort redskins56 but NO THANKS!

Well that is kind of a toughy but I'm going to have to say Troy Vincent...losing Chump and filling the void of a 4-time Pro Bowler with a 5-time Pro Bowler would definately be my FA to choose
Behind him, I'd be at a tie with Jevon Kearse and Chris McCallister...Jevon Kearse has been a bit injury plagued but reuniting him with Williams would be deadly to QB's trying to drop back to pass (granted we get a few DT's to be able to free him up as well as some blitzing from all 3 LB's and/or a safety) McCallister for the fact that he's also a Pro Bowler who has played very well for the Ravens...in my eyes, he's been more consistent the Chump the last two years and like Vincent and Bailey can take a #1 reciever completely out of the game.

We need a defensive lineman so bad I couldn't choose another position. (so I pick Daryl Gardner)
But if I could, it would be Jim Kleinsasser, without a doubt. If I could have any player in the league to fill Gibbs's H-back role, this would be the guy. I pray nightly that we sign this dude...

These picks granted that we have Clinton Portis in our backfield...IF we didn't then the #1 FA pick obviously would be Deuce Staley for the obvious reasons of a fast and powerful premier RB

Ted Washington is what we need to plug the wwhole line. That would take the heat off the secondary.Champ cant cover a man all day back there like he was asked to do so now matter what you say d-line makes the def better or as you saw last year worse.presssure baby!!!!!!

The Skins Fan - i like deuce but i think Vincent would be a better option, CB would be more of a need area and there would be nothing better than when i go to skins vs. eagles games, being able to taunt those eagles fans about how another one of there favorite eagles is now a redskin....Good POINTS

Javon Kearse is my pick, he's lacking a little bit in size, but he's got strength and speed on his side... that said we have:
Javon Kearse- 2
Young- 1
Deon Grant- 1
Terrell Owens- 1
Troy Vincent- 1
Jim Kleinsasser- 1
Ted Washington- 1

Steve Spurrier III - Daryl Gardner had one great year for us, but has never had as good a year anywhere else, plus he's hurt all the time and he left the SKINS for more money...no thanks, Kleinsasser...now that would be a good option, this guy is a great improvement to any offense, but i don't think we'll get him, the Vikings have a ton of cap space and mostly hat i've read is that they'll resign him. But he would be a great addition! Two Point for you!

PROBOWL TOM - Ted Washington would be a good improvement on our D, we would defenitly be better against the run, but i think we need more of a pass rushing and run stuffing kind of d-linemen. But a good improvement none the less.

Well Gardner had a number of good years in Miami. He is injury prone, and he did have trouble in Denver, but I think his leaving Washington was on the Redskins. I remember him saying he enjoyed his time here and would love to stay.
Here's the thing. He would be a lot cheaper than guys like Sapp and Washington, and could arguably be just as effective. The one year he was here, he was an absolute monster.
I was under the same impression as you as to the availability of Kleinsasser, but I have been told be people on this message board that the Vikings can't afford him. If it's true, we have to snatch him up...

Skinsfan55 - Again, Kearse i think would be the second best addition to our team, a little risky with the injury bug, but if he can overcome that, he would be a great addition. Thanks for keeping score

Oh no, i remember Gardner had good years in miami early on, but he really had a good year with us and i think in part because 1) he wanted to show miami, "hey this is what you gave up!" and 2) he was gonna be a Free-Agent at the end of the season. And weather he loved the area and wanted to stay or not, i think he left in large part because we didn't offer him what we he wanted.
As far as i know, the vikings are like $20+ million under the cap, and kleinsasser is there only major free-agent to sign...someone please correct me if i'm wrong

If you go to the above link it has how much each team is under the salary cap, Minnesota is $19.1 million dollars under. So i'm not sure why they wouldn't have enough money to pay Kleinsasser.

"Note: The Redskins are interested in Jim Kleinsasser, an unrestricted free agent, considered one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL. Last season, Kleinsasser earned about $3 million, and the Minnesota Vikings say they can no longer afford him."

Steve Spurrier III - here's an artical stateing Kleinsasser will be the vikings top prioty this offseason:
Tice to meet with Kleinsasser: Tice will meet with prospective free agent Jim Kleinsasser next week when Tice returns from the combine. Tice and Kleinsasser had a long phone discussion this week, and Tice hopes Kleinsasser will remain with the team.
The tight end can become an unrestricted free agent when the market opens March 3. He is likely to test the market, but the Vikings are expected to continue talks with his agent in the next two weeks. Kleinsasser is the team's top priority in free agency.
"I had a great conversation with Jimmy, and I will talk to him again," Tice said. "I feel hopeful Jimmy will continue to be a Viking."
