I think our linebackers haven't been talked about enough this offseason. I don't know how much truth the rumors ive heard of Trotter or Armstead being cap casualties hold, but anyone else think it could be cause for concern? Just wonderin, I think we could address LB really late in the draft if need be, I like Grant Wiley from WVU, he a beast.

I think it would be dumb to cut either of them. Williams and Blache will have them at their best. Armstead was really good last year but Trotter's solid play was overshadowed by how often he was out of place during the season. I have a feeling we keep both. There hasn't been much talk about them in the papers, so maybe that's a good thing.

But we do have an up-and-coming youngster in Clifton Smith. He was a beast in college and should be a great replacement for either one of them if they leave but that shouldn't have to happen this season or the next few.

Yeah, same here. I hope we hold on to both of them. I think the coaching will help a lot of our players look better than they have been looking.

Costs too much to cut Trotter.

From a post of mine about a month ago...

Trotter signed a 7 year contract with a $7 million signing bonus... only $2 million has been paid AND we added about $800k more to the bonus last year... so he still has about $1.165 Mil x 5 = $5.825 MIL in bonus left.

So why cut him?

Even if we cut him after June 1st to split it up, we'd owe him 3 mil this year AND next to NOT play.

Still feel the same way and I think that's why we don't hear any talk about him. You have to give the guy a chance to play like he should... near the line of scrimmage... he will benefit greatly from Gregg Williams IMO.

Trotter still makes a lot of tackles, so he's okay with me. Armstead is getting up there though he's still quite effective. I wouldn't look for his heir until next year.

They're both still very talented, and quite season, which Gibbs likes (ask Ramsey)... I too think Greeg Williams will help them play at their highest level...

They make too much money. Cut 'em, especially Lavar.

Between the two, I'd rather cut Trotter.

Armstead was the most solid LB last year. Trotter and Arrington were constantly out of place. Trotter has proven to be a bit of a flop and obviously doesn't handle having to adapt to a new defensive philosophy very well.

It all comes down to Gregg Williams' evaluation of them -- I'm sure he's going to see something he likes in both Trotter & Armstead. But he may also want to bring along one of the younger LBs.
