LaVar Arrington's Motorcycle Accident (UPDATED)

LaVar's difficult run of luck these last few years took its worst turn when the former Pro Bowl LB was injured in a motorcycle accident in PG County today. He was rushed to PG County Hospital after being involved in a single vehicle crash with multiple broken bones and head trauma.

NEW STUFF:
Just heard from some people very close to LaVar that he broke his arm and leg in the accident. I am trying to find out about any head injuries as fast as possible. I also heard that LaVar's wife had twins (a boy and a girl) a few weeks ago.
END OF NEW STUFF

That's all we know for now but obviously will be working on it all day and night.

Arrington, who bought his way out of his contract with the Redskins, ruptured his Achilles early last season with the NY Giants and has been recovering since. Numerous NFL players believe Arrington had been seriously considering retirement and his agent had said that Arrington would not have be ready to pass an NFL physical until August or so.

Man, that's awful, to the extent that such a thing can be minor, I hope LA is OK

I know he didn't leave on the greatest terms but I hate to see this happen to anyone. I hope he isn't injured to badly and that recovers quickly.

I hope he makes a full recovery. I have always liked Lavar, and still have one of his signed jerseys in my office.

I went to Penn State with him, and it was a dream come true when we drafted him.

So LA, get well soon!

Quick, somebody check on HEROHAMO!!!!

Man, this has not been a good offseason for the guy. The accident might mean a permanent end to his career, or it could fuel a possible run at the "Comeback Player of the Year 2009" award for LA. :-k

Either way, here's to a speedy recovery. -drinking

Also, the "kick the man while he's down" portion of my post:

The guy has 3 babies at home, and hes out riding a motorcycle?? #-o He must not hold common sense in high regard.

Wow, that crash happened less than a mile from where I work. Terrible news -- I really hope that he's OK.

Good luck on the recovery, Lavar.

They say its non-life threatening injuries so hopefully some of that muscle mass absorbed hitting the guard rail.

Don't own one, but I love motorcycles, and in the DMV area its hard enough to stay alive on 4 wheels let alone 2....

Speedy recovery to you Arrington...

Ok, riddle me this? How can a man have an accident today at 1pm and get ticketed and have to pay a fine of $460? I do belive he gets a day in court which won't happen probubly for another month. So how can they say he was fined $460? Maybe they should say the fines (if found guilty) will add up to 460.

hope he gets well soon, but i wouldn't be surprised if this forced his retirement. he did say a while ago, and this is a paraphrase, "if people can't see me play at my highest level, and i feel that i'm not able to perform that way, i'll just retire instead of force the issue"

i hope he surprises me with something, but i won't hold my breath

Free-agent linebacker LaVar Arrington was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in the Washington, D.C., area, the player's agent told ESPN.com on Monday.

Carl Poston said it was his understanding that Arrington suffered a broken bone in his arm, three broken bones in his leg, cuts and bruises. The injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. He is recovering at Prince George's Hospital Center.

Arrington, a former Pro Bowl linebacker for the Washington Redskins, is not currently under contract to any team. The 28-year-old Arrington is still rehabilitating an Achilles tendon tear that cut short his 2006 season with the New York Giants.

Senior writer Michael Smith covers the NFL for ESPN.com.

Wasn't sad to see him go, but I'm sad to read about this accident. It sounds pretty bad. Good luck getting better, LaVar.

I feel bad for Ol' LA...I was hoping in a way that he would heal up from his achillies injury and return back to where he belongs...DC!!!

I just don't think that any story about Lavar is "HOG WASH" worthy. I'm sorry about his accident but he is no longer a Redskin.

I wish LaVar the best, and he was one of my favorites for the Skins... but even though this joke in in poor taste, I have to share it...

Here's the headline from Fark.com on the story:

"Fittingly, LaVar Arrington's career has ended with a blown lane assignment."

I wish Lavar the best. All though it seems as though all is lost with his career. I have a feeling he will bounce back and will return to the SKins in 2008.

It's not how many times you fall that matters, it's how many time you get back up

Great question. I think I have the answer.

Lavar is no ordinary man.

Legend has it, he's a phenomenal football player.

Some say he's the second coming of LT (really, he's gonna prove it, soon. honest :? ).

Others even go as far as to attribute mystical powers to the guy (if he IS on the roster in 2008, HEROHAMO, that would be MAGIC).

...and then, there's the truth.

The guy lacks common sense, and thinks his "talent" makes him above the law:

If you click on the previously-mentioned link to the article, you'll see that the reporter wrote:Arrington, who turns 29 Wednesday...was issued two citations -- one for operating the motorcycle without a proper license and the other for the crash itself.

Bravo, Lavar. Bravo.

Lavar was a fool to be on a motorcycle at this stage of his career. But hey, I hope the guy has a quick and complete recovery.

Maybe this turn of events makes it possible he might become a Redskin again someday? I know there are a hundred reasons (maybe a thousand) why it won't happen, but here are a few reasons why it might:

Sure it is hard to forgive and forget, but Snyder will overcome the personal animosity because he will be able to sign Lavar to a veteran minimum contract. The fans love Lavar, which is good for business. And at the end of the day it is all about business. If you can sign a fan favorite for a veteran minimum, you sign him.

Lavar loves D.C. In his heart of hearts this is where he wants to be.

Lavar will have a new attitude and a new mindset. The mentality of a player trying to make a comeback is different from one who thinks he is already Pro Bowl caliber. He will be more humble, more teachable, more likely to perform his assignments, and a more diligent student of the game. And he will play special teams.

The coaches will get over their egos by justifying it as adding depth.

Welcome back Lavar.

I initially posted this in Hog Wash because it struck me as kind of breaking-news and putting it in ATL for such a popular former Skin seemed a little heartless. I'm moving it now though.

Single vehicle accident?

Is it icy around there in June?

Did a tree run out in front of him?

Did the road move?

Did he swerve to avoid a child playing in the street?

Or was he going too fast?

I wish him a swift recovery.
