I just wanted to let everybody know that besides turning out fine football players for the Redskins, e.g. Byron Westbrook, my alma mater is a D-III lacrosse power.
The Sea Gulls from Salisbury defeated SUNY Cortland 15-9. The victory avenged last years OT loss to Cortland and was Salisburys 4th national title in 5 years, and 7th total. The seniors for Salisbury finished their career 83-1.
Also as I was leaving M&T Bank Stadium I saw an SUV with a Salisbury window sticker and tags that had Rdskin 2 and was held with a Redskin tag holder. The plates were from New York. Would that be anybody on here?

That's just ridiculously impressive.

I caught the divison I semi-final between Duke and Cornell on the weekend. What a heart-breaker for Cornell if you didn't see it Steve.

Duke was up 10-3 before Cornell came all the way back to tie at elevens with less than thirty seconds to play. Duke scored the winner with just 3 seconds to go. The kids from Cornell had to be just crushed.

Congrats to your alma mater... although it sounds like it was almost a foregone conclusion with that level of domination.

I did see the Duke-Cornell game. Your right, that just had to be crushing to come that far back only to lose that way. Did you know my Canadian friend that the player who scored the winning goal, Zack Greer, is also a Canadian. If I remember correctly he still has at least 1 more year and stands to be one of Division 1 all time scorers.

Did you see the D-II championship game? It had a strange ending also, LeMoyne (sp) won when a player passed the ball to the crease only to miss the guy he was throwing to. It didn't matter as the ball slipped by the goalie with 1 second left. Joy for LeMoyne pain for Mercyhurst. 6-5 final.

That was a great game, and I was hoping that Cornell would pull it out. Both teams were playing at such a high level, with very few mistakes for the majority of the game. . .it was the kind of lacrosse game that anyone could enjoy.

Good game yesterday. Duke got a taste of it's own medicine, falling behind, coming back to tie it just to lose in the waning moments.

You have to admit though, it was a lot more interesting when they played for heads.

Incidentally, Canada now considers Lacrosse it's national SUMMER sport, so that we can still list Hockey as our national sport as well. We basically do it for historical reasons as there are many sports here that enjoy more participation than Lacrosse does.

And we still kick everyone's hiney...

Yes I admit Canada has some outstanding individual players. The Gait brothers, Zak Greer, "Tugboat" Radcliff of UMBC, Frank Resiterits of Albany to name a few.
But in team compitition at the lacrosse World Championships, the U.S. has a commanding lead in head to head games. As a matter of fact I think the United States has only lost the title 2 times in the history of those games, 1960 and 2006.
I like to think our 2 wonderful nations will continue to dominate the "Fastest Game on 2 Feet."

I'm with you. I guess the only place left to see jousting is Medieval Times.

Don't forget the renaissance fair in Davidsonville. The only place men can wear tights without getting looked at funny (well, unless I go).

I'm a little late in posting this but I wanted to give a little shout out to the Salisbury Lacrosse team for winning the D-III national title, again. It was the teams 2nd straight title and 8th overall. They finished undefeated 22-0, and the seniors finish there career 84-1.
Coach Jim Berkman became the all-time winningest coach in all NCAA lacrosse divisions. 330-34, that is amazing.
I'm proud of the boy's from the 'Shore. With several starters returning next year I'm confident that number 9 could be in line.

No, jousting is still the overall official sport of MD and is an individual sport, whereas lacrosse is now the official team sport of the state.

This is good news for the many individual jousters in MD, but bad news for the fledgling 2-man tandem jousting team at Towson State.....
