The King is back.

Sean Taylor has joined the Redskins for the second week of OTAs.

Taylor was at Redskins Park on Tuesday morning working out with teammates and attending meetings. He is expected to participate in the team's afternoon practice session.....

:hail: Thank goodness. I love that guy. I think I remember that when he showed up last year, the coaches commented on him being one of the hardest workers. Great to see him back.

Sean Taylor

Sean Taylor is indeed in the house for today's OTA, according to the team. We'll see what Redskins folks have to say about that and we'll try to get a comment from Taylor.
The Redskins also signed eight players: DB Byron (brother of Brian) Westbrook, DE Alex Buzbee, TE Brian Bell, LB Kevin Jones, FB Pete Schmitt, WR Carl Berman, DB Brandon Register, and G Cornelius Rogers.
In other matters, Jason is taking comp time, so he'll be here sporadically.

ok, now that he is here.. I am sure all this drama will end and ST states that he was not here because he was working in Miami, plus this are not mandatories practices....that is it , the end. I am happy he is with the team though.

How do you know he's still upset about his contract if he ever was? He call you? The only place I read that he was upset was in the W-Post in J-Lac's blog and Howard Bryant's column citing unamed sources. For all we know he missed last week because he had the flu. I'm just sayin'.

So has he actually said he is upset about is contract?

I believe this is a very important time for the Redskins. Sean Taylor is a special player and the Redskins know that. There's too many Safeties in the NFL making more than he is, and I think he's shown (by his work on the field) he deserves more. They need to show him they believe in him and they want to pay him before there's another whif of him being underpaid and disgruntled.

I think if they ever let it get to the point in the next year or so where they're talking free agency and franchise tags and stuff with ST... he'll be gone, and they'll have missed and oppotunity for something special... because I think he's only going to get better, the more mature he gets...

I don't think anyone but Sean knows that with 100% certainty. Most of the speculation was sparked by Sean speaking through his agent shorty after he signed the contract as a rookie.

Plenty of reporters and columnists don't mind perpetuating the rumor, though. Jason La Canfora mentioned it in a WP blog, Bram Weinstein made the same speculation on his blog, and I saw at least one ESPN article make the suggestion. From Taylor, of course, has been nothing but silence on the issue, so all of the reporters pointed to his absence from camp as "proof" for their rumors. (Oh, and they quoted "team sources", the usual crystal ball).

It doesn't look like there's too much to justify the rumor anymore, though, unless Sean says something himself. My 2 cents

Didn't he also fire the agent who negotiated that rookie contract? If I'm remembering correctly, he did. That wouldn't seem to be much of an endorsement by Mr. Taylor.

Go to Redskins.com and listen to what Sean has to say himself on the issues.

Sean sounded very professional and he says he is ready to catch up with the guys that have been in the OTAs....Also, when asked about rumros about him being unhappy, he sais that he is happy and that he has no comments right now because there is no reason for it, also, he said that when the time comes to talk about, he will....meaning that the Redskins did not approach him to talk about his contract yet. I think he sounded very positive and he realizes that he should have been here, but also, that the OTAs were not mandatory......

Taylor was asked about whether or not there was any truth to the reports that speculated that he was unhappy with his contract.

Sean said there's no truth to that at all. Said he's definitely happy. Said he has played three years of a seven year contract and he's fine.

He was then asked if there's been any talk of a contract extension.

Sean said he doesn't handle that and it's "not an issue with us." ( I think he meant with him and Drew.)

Said he was happy with all of the draft picks, likes the Landry pick and the depth at the position. Feels like more of a family this year. Said he should have been there last week but he'll make it up over the next few weeks. Was excited to see everyone and it's feels (to him) like a big family.

Smoot also said the same thing and said Sean already made some plays today.

*****************************************************

You can tell that he's not very comfortable in front of the reporters and cameras. He's always admitted that he doesn't like that part. He'll be just fine, though. Even if he is miffed over the original contract, in the back of his own mind, I wouldn't expect him to say anything anyway. I'm sure these guys get awfully tired of the media starting rumors. ESPN was all over this story a week ago when Sean didn't show up. Do you think they will announce Sean's arrival and play a clip of his interview, putting an end to this stupid rumor?

Me either...

Taylor is not greatness yet and has not earned a huge contract. He is physically gifted but mentally not at the top of the game. He is not a leader on the defense by any stretch, and he still needs a lot of guidance. The Redskins should pay him what he is worth, but should not go out of their way to make him the highest paid safety in the league.

TAYLOR NOT PUSHING FOR NEW CONTRACT, YET

A league source tells us that the decision of Redskins safety Sean Taylor to skip the first week of offseason practices (known as Organized Team Activities) and to show up for the second week of workouts is unrelated to his contract, or any lack of satisfaction therewith.

Though Taylor was unhappy with his contract not long after it was signed nearly three years ago, he is confident (we're told) that the deal will be renegotiated at the appropriate time.

There is some thought that a new deal could come after the 2007 season.

Taylor was the fifth overall pick in the 2004 draft. In the past, he has spent most of the offseason in Miami. The team was under the impression that he would show up for the first week of OTA's, and some players reportedly concluded that his absence was related to unhappiness with his contract.

He is playing under a contract - nothing needs to be done at this time.

I think that if he goes to another probowl this year, we should extend his contract. He has been here and done well. Not Great but well. He needs to continue to work and I think in 2-3 years, he may be the top or one of the top safety's in the league.
