Which Super Bowl-winning coach is least worthy of the honor because he clearly won using a team he didn't build? Here is my list of candidates for this dubious honor:

George Seifert
Barry Switzer
Jon Gruden

My golden hat and gloves go to Seifert, 'cause he's the author of one of the top two most boneheaded coaching maneuvers I've ever seen. The 'Skins were playing Carolina, and Tim Biakabutuka was tearing us a new one. He had something like 200 yds and a couple of scores in the first half. So what does Seifert do at halftime? He benches Touchdown Tim.

The Panthers of that era had decided they wanted a "running back by committee" or some such nonsense. Seifert was going to stick to the plan come Hell or high water, so he sticks the other kid in. He really sucked. I don't even remember his name. The upshot was that the Redskins managed to come back and win the game, which makes this a happy memory for me.

The author of the other rock-headed maneuver? Wade Phillips. Hehehe.

That's why we are 8-1 against the Panthers.....I go with Seifert also. Gruden didn't build Tampa, but he did built Oakland the team that he played in that SB. That gives him a measure of credibility. Switzer, well what can you say about a Pukes coach other than he did have more personality than all the others.

I can't vote for Gruden because, while he was a first-year coach of the Bucs, the team that he left behind (the Raiders) also made it to the Superbowl that year. . .

Gruden hasn't done much since. It seems the Bucs get worse every year.

Yeah, and Dungy was in TB before Gruden. Dungy's proven he can build a Super Bowl-winning team, since he's done it twice. Gruden built one Super Bowl loser and not much else.

He took the Faiders to the AFC title game the 2 years prior to taking TB to the Super Bowl. Only to face the same team he had built. If it was a fee ride for Gruden then Bill Callahan should have been on the list also.

He'd get may vote if he were on the list. Otherwise I'll go with my warpped veiw of ttiT and say Barry Switzer

Callahan lost, so he doesn't qualify. He definitely would qualify if he had beaten Gruden, though.

Did you notice last year how Schottenmoron didn't have his headset on at the beginning of their last playoff game? The announcers were babbling about it being a sign of confidence in his team and assistant coaches. Well, as the game went from bad to worse for the Chargers, we notice Marty does have a headset on. Coincidence? Then again, he had plenty of help screwing things up from Phillips, another sooper-genius.

Not even a team as good as the Chargers can overcome brain-death at the top.

The others are NFL head-coaches, even if not at the same level as Vince Lomardi and Joe Gibbs -- the two best.
